Does anyone know anything about the casinos in Deadwood, SD?

Hubby and I are going to SD in the spring and will be spending the night of our anniversary in Deadwood, SD. Does anybody have any knowledge of the casinos in that area and which ones are the best. Thanks in advance for any tips.

 

Been a long time- as I recall these are all Indian casinos and very tight.

 

Yes the lodge at deadwood is great prob 3 years old and nice room. Great slot selection.

Deadwood mountain grand also very new prob 3 years old as well. Not as big of slot selection as the lodge. They have a trolly takes you up and down casino row downtown. Let me know what other info needed. When do you plan to go?

None of these in deadwood are Indian owned.

The 2 I posted are independent owned.

Good food at both as well. The main downtown has alot of slot parlor and table games at most of them also.

 

Mountain grand is within walking distance to all the other casinos the lodge is a couple miles out of town but the trolley runs between. If you are there for just one night I would probably recommend the mountain grand so you can walk to the downtown area

 

We live in Bismarck ND and take 5 or 6 trips to Deadwood a year. We like to stay at the Mineral Palace on Main Street. They have a decent selection of slot machines but we like to play 3 card poker. They don't have automatic shufflers there and that's what we prefer. The Gem Steakhouse has always been good too. Going again May13th with 8 old high school friends.

 

Our experience with casinos there--great food but tight slots.

 

Craps in SD is mind boggling.

Yes, give us info on craps please. For some reason I thought BJ was the only table game in Deadwood casinos. At some point I want to go out there.

 

They have bj 3 card let it ride ect. Just got live craps and roulette. Bet limits aren't as high as in Las Vegas but it's a lot friendlier atmosphere.

 

At first glance, it looks the same... But cards are drawn and placed on the table to determine dice value. I suppose this is some time of loop hole, table mins are low. I'm not the best to describe this as I only played once on a visit while intoxicated, but essentially what you roll is not the real number. So, one can roll a 3 and 4, and a 7 really represents a 5. The values change consistently too, so good luck playing while drinking. I really didn't know what I was rooting for, and the odds were super confusing. Perhaps someone else knows what I am talking about and can explain better.

They legalized other table games (in particular, craps and roulette) less than a year ago. It's definitely a recent development. Many casinos have added them, but not all, in part because modern table games are expensive, both in terms of equipment, and operator costs.

As far as the poster talking about card values, that sounds somewhat like California craps, where dice alone can't be used to determine the outcome; either the roll is from drawing cards, or the cards are laid out and then the dice determine which cards are used, but I distinctly recall reading a Wizard article saying that the odds are still the same as if it were a dice game, and I trust the Wizard. Not sure what "values change consistently" is about.
