I hate how our managers treat us like children. All of us are adults and deserve to be treated like adults. Some of us have grown adult children and some of us are already grandparents. A lot of Employees are jumping ship. We shouldnt have to ask for permission from management to go to the bathroom as if we are 5 in Kindergarten. Twice in just about two months, the entire employees team was punished for what one employee did. One employee was told off for calling in sick for one day even though that employee hadn't called in sick in 6 months! The job is stable, the benefits/vacation/insurance/401 is good and the pay is okay, but management really needs to start treating we adult employees like adults and not children.

I don't like attitudes when it comes to new projects where ones who have done it before are not helpful as far as helping new ones. And if it has to be pushed to a supervisor they don't like that because that means they have to do some work.

Everyone has the right to vent.

I LOVE my job. But my boss is nutty at times. Or maybe I should say he lacks focus at times.

Can't really complain about my job. Then again, I've never ever had a job I've dreaded. There would be times I'd be upset, but all-in-all things worked out and I was proud of the work I'm doing. I am abnormally positive though so I might be the outlier here.

I retired - not entirely of my own volition - from IT about five years back. While I was fortunate enough to be able to semi-retire (I have some goof-off part-time gig that adds structure to my day), the worst thing about my 'career' job was a manager with a Napoleonic complex. For two years I sat with my resignation letter in my desk drawer, missing only the effective date. The gig I have now, opposite end of the spectrum, but I do miss being around "professionals" and the level of intellectual challenge. Every day that I go into work, I suffer disappointment that the bright churen over at Google haven't automated my labor. Well, there's always tomorrow... ;)

    The hours.

I'm kind of self employed (saying "kind of" because I am self employed, but been under contract with same company for over 12 years now) and I definitely like that, but there have been some long days over the years - had an 8 month span a few years back where I worked 100+ hours a week and have been working 7 days a week for the last 3 years.

I am retired now, but I really hated when anyone died. My husband hates when he says he is having a bad day and I ask him if anyone died. But it puts things in perspective.

I work for the government, in the IT department. We are all supposed to be working together to get the job done but unfortunately in government that isn't the priority. I constantly have to fight with other sections to get things done. Networking, tech support, security, operations. you name it. Seems everybody wants to do as little work as possible and they get irritated when you ask them for assistance to set things up or get things done. It almost seems like everybody hates each other here.

Unfortunately decades ago I worked in the private industry and didn't see it much better. In fact unlike government (and unions), private workers were afraid for their jobs and retirement, some companies got rid of the higher paid employees just to save a few bucks. Eventually many of the companies just outsourced their IT work so my friends all lost their jobs.

Right now the worst is having a primadona department head. His priorities are so whacked. His first year we spend $2k on Christmas tree lights just because he wanted the programmable lights to make a fancy light show (all the department xmas trees are put in the courtyard of city hall, he just wanted to show off). He gets rid of all our regular dry erase boards because he wants to spend thousands buying the dry erase boards that are made of glass and have background lighting and look "neat". He spends thousands buying a 3d printer, I have no idea what he will use it for because we aren't a manufacturing company so don't really make anything. Our conference rooms (3 or 4 of them) now contain 2 or 3 huge TV's which are seldom used. Talk about government waste and you can use our department as an example of that.

Recently he got rid of our high volume laser printer and wants us to email out all reports to our users (he is on a "green", paperless kick). The problem is he himself is writing the program to do this and it is going through continuous iterations because like Microsoft windows each new update has it's own set of problems. Unfortunately without the printer we are now printing our volume reports on a small printer which will probably break in a few months (we probably converted a third of our reports to email).

5 years ago I set up a process to convert some of our mainframe reports to pdf and to ftp those reports directly to the users servers on each island. Our department head thought it was "bulky" and "inefficient" and wants us to convert everything to email because he doesn't want to pay the $2k annual maintenance on the software. Our users are reluctant with his plan (and we told him so) because they rather us put the reports directly on their server and doesn't want their email boxes filling up but because our dept head has the ear of the mayor and the other department heads we have no choice but to follow his orders (we're hoping that we get rid of our current mayor but that isn't likely). So instead of getting real productive work out (some required by the feds and laws created by our politicans) we are scrambling to go paperless instead.

I can retire at the end of next year (with 30 years of service) and I am seriously considering getting out at that time. I will only be 60 and had initially planned to work to age 62 or 64 but if the mayor is reelected this year our department head will probably be around another 4 years so it may be best to retire already. Our department head doesn't like us mainframe people, we get no respect from him and he keeps saying how he wants to bring in youngsters who can "walk on water", so many of us are starting to retire already. That also causes a potential problem, he still has a number of major mainframe applications (driver license, motor vehicle registration, etc.) but because he isn't treating us well many of the mainframe people are looking to get out ASAP so he won't have people to support those systems (what a moron).

Sorry for griping, I'm in a foul mood because I just lost a month's work of this email thing. I had members in panvalet and the tech people decided to flush out the temporary panvalet queue where I had all my work so now I have to start over from scratch on the project.

Yeah, I really hate my job.

Went back to work in 2013 after I retired from NYC in 2012 because although the summer off was great went fishing , days of drinking at local bar going to A/C did alll the work that needed to be done around the house winter was the pits and I got tired of watching Rachel Ray...... The thing that I hated atNYC and now is prevalent in my present job is the condescending attitudes that people will give you. I am a supervisor of maintenance have 5,000,000 square feet of buildings to keep up and running in excellent operating order and deal with this all the time. There might be a flood of emergencies that need immediate attention but if a director of a different department wants a picture hung up I am supposed to drop what I am doing to appease him while the building starts filling up with water.. When told no they get all indignant threatening me that they will to go to the President of hospital to get what thy want and that " DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM ATTITUDE" Yes i know who you are but this needs to get repaired NOW That burns my hamhocks that's about the only thing that gets me riled up I keep going back because I like the camaraderie of my staff and all the other great people that I interact with daily and knowing that we do a real fine job day in and day out Plus and this is the biggie it funds my casino and craps addiction allowing me to go more often

Software migrations and endless developer delays. :wink2:

I've had a lot of different jobs over the years and there has always been something I really enjoyed and something I wish would go away. I'm not a big fan of corporate politics and bitchy co-workers. There is always that one person who thinks they work so much harder than anyone else, but never really get anything done. Mostly because they are too busy complaining to everyone else about how hard they work. :haha:

I work in an office with a bunch of women. Most of them are older, almost to the point of being my parents' age. Most of them are great to work with, but 2 of the older ones are classic bullies. One has been here for 30 years, the other started a year ago when I did. Any time there's an issue, they run to our supervisor. He's actually a great guy, but since one of the women has been here so long, she gets what she wants and does what she wants. At one point we were told not to come in before 6am, yet these 2 were constantly here around 5am anyhow. They constantly whisper to each other at their end of the room, and talk to us like they're better than us. They are wrong about things at times but never admit it, to the point of giving people misinformation (we work in the payroll department, and have roughly 18K employees to process between 11 of us). Wrong information makes everyone's job harder. It definitely has affected morale.

My mother works at a VA hospital... if you think you have anything bad to say about your job, she wins.

    Example 1:

A patient needs to reschedule an appointment

Resolution: My mother has to manually recreate that doctors entire weeks schedule to make that change.

    Example 2:

Her supervisor has worked at the hospital for three thousand years. She will not accept email as a form of communication. Only hand written, signed notes are acceptable.

    Example 3:

Her yearly raise is based off an evaluation of her job as it is described. Her job description states something like she is responsible for answering patients phone calls and handling their bills. She neither has a phone that patients can call nor handles anything billing related.

I like my job but the pay and benefits suck. I'm in senior management but get paid like a middle manager. I've only stuck it out because I like the job.

The things I hate about my job...... I do deal with the Napoleonic issues of supervisors of a shorter stature, the cliquish High School issues working in a large organization, the rumor mongering, piss poor policies/directives, selfishness/look at what I did, but the worst thing I hate about my job is having bodily fluids and fecal matter thrown in my face, getting punched in the face, seeing my partners carried out on stretchers after being stabbed. That the national average of PTSD suffers for my profession is over 28%, that we on average only 2 years into retirement or our 58th birthday is our last birthday for my profession. The best part of my job is when we all go home safe or when a criminal is going home after 30+ years of being incarcerated walks up to me on the day of his parole and thanks me for having said something I don't even remember saying to him that he states clicked in his brain and promises me that I will never see him again. That my job provides me with the ability to take care of me and mine. Once you put the whole in perspective, risk vs. reward, how much fun you had doing it and did you do all of it well and walk with pride that you have done all the best you can....... Ignore the petty crap and enjoy that you did the best you could with what you were given. Remember it could always be worse...... You could be a Busker....

I hate my job but won't elaborate because I might get too riled up, have a heart attack, and die.

But there is another thing that I really really hate: And that's when I hear about gov't workers talk about waste and lack of productivity in the gov't workforce.

I pay taxes. You pay taxes. We all pay taxes. I for one don't like hearing this shit about waste.
