I've had some fabulous home made baked beans at various outings.

However, when it comes to a quick time beans and weenie dinner, I rely on Bush's original.

I don't care for Campbell's at all, although that is what Mom raised us on.

I grew up outside Boston and the only ones I really like are B&M, which are unfortunately hard to find here in TX. I sometimes order them on Amazon. Love them.

We keep Ranch brand on hand but mostly make pinquitos or yellows -- or pull 'em out of the freezer when we've planned ahead -- and doctor 'em up. Beans are a staple crop here, still.

Bush's, although Reser's makes a damn good refrigerated baked bean as well.

When my father and uncle were younger, they would hitchhike each summer to upstate Washington to work in a bean canneries. It was union work and worth the time it would take them each summer to get there. Of the many stories they shared with me, one was that all the beans are the same. The only difference is the label on the can. The highest priced label and the discount label were all the same beans coming off the same assembly line. The only difference, you pay more for one brand over another

While it is true that there is but a labeling difference for a great number of processed foods (e.g. brand vs generic cereal), there are indeed quality and content variations associated with pricing models. I worked for the USDA for a few years and the food inspection bidness is a real eye opener as there are federal guidelines that producers have to adhere to - primarily based on content. You'd think a can of Del Monte Mixed Fruit and Del Monte Fruit Cocktail are inherently the same. Nope, there are indeed specs (Grade A vs B) and processes that prevent 'mislabeling'.

How-ev-ah, on topic, Bush's is pretty much all I buy for 'baked beans'.

    Yum.
When I was a kid growing up if you had store brand foods it meant because you had no money for brand names - nowadays I find the HEB brand foods are better than the national brands

now that we got us some choices.....here's one way i like 'em

small pot, add some butter and onions, cook a bit, add in cut up hot dog(s) and let them fry a bit also.
add in the beans and cook till they warm through....
works best cooked over a fire but a stove will do..
eat straight from the pot....drives the wife crazy.

Nuke for a minute or two then eat with tortilla chips in front of the computer. Ignore wife's frown at my barbarism.

Bush's, either original or onion, for the family baked beans recipe. We used to do Campbell's too, but we had to doctor them up a ton even to make them worthy even for a side with hot dogs.
