I signed onto my Total Rewards today to see if a redemption had went through and I noticed that I am now Gold. Is anyone else having their status go from Platinum to Gold? It would be a bummer if they killed this thing off.

You need to charge $5000 per year to maintain platinum status.
If you charge $10000 per year you get an additional VIP access card.

You have to charge 5,000 in order to maintain Platinum. per the web site
    UPGRADE TO PLATINUM STATUS6

By making your first purchase in the first 90 days. Platinum status provides you with7:

    • 15% discount at participating spas and casino gift shops.
    • Preferred pricing at participating Total Rewards restaurants.
    • Exclusive pre-sale access for select shows.

Maintain Platinum Tier status in subsequent year by spending $5000 in the current calendar year!

As others have mentioned, you need to spend $5000 in a calendar year to keep Platinum status. $10000 spend gets you the Vegas VIP Access Pass, which is like being Diamond in Vegas minus access to the Diamond Lounges or waived resort fees.

I did not spend 5k and I am marked as having platinum for until January of next year. So they gave me two years even though I didn't spend 5k. And yet those were the terms when I signed up. Seems like some of us are getting a bonus year.

CET "fiscal" year used to be in March but is now January. Just like earning it by your play, once you get the status, you get it for the rest of the current fiscal year until the following fiscal year. So, it may be possible that you receive platinum for as long as just about 2 years or as little as just over 1 year depending on when you signed up.

In retrospect, signing up for the TR is probably of marginal value if you don't get out to Vegas (or participating property) very often. I signed up for it, got the platinum status and figure on just using the TR visa card to get to the $5K minimum.

I just dropped back to Gold too. I liked being able to use the Platinum line to check in, but since they started charging resort fees on comped rooms, that short check-in line was really the only advantage to being Platinum.

Yep. Shorter check-in lines at the desk and the cage where the only real discernable advantages to being Platinum. Oh well.

Platinums can also skip the line at some restaurants...

I lost mine too, I signed up for cc when it came out, only spent like $10 to get my bonus and was platinum until March, now back to gold. The only thing I will miss is free parking in Atlantic city, but I have switched to borgata so that doesn't affect me as much now.

In reading over these posts, it would appear that the 'platinum' status is something that can easily be lived without. If there is but a marginal differentiation between 'gold' and 'platinum' - dependent upon how you value the perks - I might get more value out of sticking with the Discover card (yes Mr. Jackson, that is indeed what's in my wallet) than the TR.

I find other than the bonus I got for signing up this card has a very low return on benefits. I find my Citi Double Cash card is much better and gives me a much bigger return on my spending.

I have the CC also.and have spent enough to obtain VIP privileges, however I no longer intend to use the CC due to the resort fees no longer getting waived. I found that waiver to be the greatest advantage and the main reason I got the card.

Yeah, when the card first came out, opting out of resort fees and skipping the cattle call at check-in were the two major selling points. Now everyone except for Diamond and Seven Stars has to pay. I will miss using the special Platinum check-in, but hey.

I was happy I stayed Platinum as long as I did. I went back to Gold April 1st like everyone else. We are in the process of redoing our kitchen so I put $5000 of our cabinets on that card. They didn't upgrade me back to platinum ( it does say it can take 30 days ) so I complained and they popped me back to Platinum. Only good until Jan 1 2017 though not through March 31 like I would have expected. I got the card as soon as it came out and had been platinum ever since. We don't stay at CET props as much anymore but I wanted it for another year just in case. Putting the cabinets on the card got me $50 in reward pts plus the 2/1 platinum attraction/show bonus. We wanted to do the High Roller at night this trip ( we have done it during the day )....it will be free now with 2/1 and using points to pay for the 1.
