Anyone stay there? Do the rooms face Fremont? I haven't heard great things about the regular rooms at Golden Gate (e.g., HVAC issues) and wondered if these are better,

These are great rooms, different bathroom setup but nicely done. Fridge, separate toilet and sink areas, nice sectional, I think they might all face south

The rooms are pretty awesome and they are in a newer building on backside away from freemont. They are very quiet.

Wife and I stayed in the "Sammy Davis Jr." room last August. The suites are old school great. Updated with all the necessities, fridge, microwave, coffee pot, big screen, sectional sofa, safe, a/c etc. The bed was very comfortable. I look forward to staying in one of The Golden Gate suites again.

Nice rooms...they do have their own, independent HVAC...it is on a motion sensor though, so you can't just set the thing on max-cool so it's nice & brisk when you stumble back to your room...but it does cool off pretty quickly.
Here are a few pics of a suite from my room last July:

...stayed in a suite on two occasions...very nice. Easy in/out from casino floor to room, relatively quiet, plenty of room, comfy bed, frig and Keurig coffee maker...

Stayed in one of their suites a couple of years ago. They were part of the hotel addition; so they are new. They are located in the rear of the building, facing south, away from FSE so the noise level is minimal. Lots of room, comfy bed; bathroom setup is a little different; huge sectional couch.

    echo everything above.
as a downtown guy who doesn't need a pool or a ton of resort amenities, this is my favorite room by far. quick and easy access to the room (and casino) when you need it. no waiting or walking! will be there in a month and I can't wait!

Thanks for all the great info. I think I will "upgrade" a bit and stay in one on my upcoming trip.

Back in my day... GG didn't have no damn suites! You got a bed with 2 feet of clearance to three walls, a closet for 4 shirts and a pair of pants, bathroom with elementary school toilet fixtures... and you were damn glad to get it!

    Now... get off my lawn!

No tub. There is a single, enclosed room for the toilet (across from the mirror/sink) and another for a large walk-in shower (across from the towels).
They are to the right of the counter-top in this photo.

Thx Top. Thinking of changing my reservations from GN Rush room to GG Suite this July. GG Suite looks like excellent value.

    topcard,

Thanks for the info and pics. Helped me decide where to spend part of our downtown stay this next trip. We have been staying at the Plaza and MSS but was looking for a change from the Plaza in light of recent events and was looking for something new. Having never stayed at the GG your post was very helpful and made the decision much easier. Plus there is Dupar's, win, win.

    Thanks again!!

Stayed in one of these a month or so ago. The Gate is great! Only have one elevator, but since there are only 5 floors, there is never a long wait. As stated above, all the suites are in the back of the building, facing south, away from the Freemont noise. The suites at the far end of the hallway are closer to the alleyway and have heard others complain of garbage truck noise, but I never heard it. The motion sensor A/C kind of sucks, if I was there longer I would have found a way to hack it. With some thermostats, a mylar ballon (one of the shiny plastic ones) left in the room will provide enough of a signal to keep the climate control running. There is a dorm size fridge in the room, great for leftovers from Dupars and my fix of Coke Zero.

I can't remember using the wifi, the cellular signal was so strong (at least for TMobile, and they suck) that I actually tethered my computer to my cell phone and went with that.

Remember there is no pool at the Gate, had friends staying at the Nugget, so we just went there.

Comps were easy enough from the pit, didn't even have to play the "charge it to your room" game. As a table game player, not sure how their slot club works for comps.

I will certainly stay at the Gate again. Great casino, great people, like the smaller feel than the mega-resort.

    Good Luck!

I'm not sure, but it does.
Perhaps it knows when you enter & leave the room... a switch or detector of some kind associated with coming in or going out of the door? I'm not sure.

(I guess it could also be activated by your room key-card.)

. Best guess is that once the AC is on the air flow keeps the balloon moving just enough to keep the motion sensors engaged.
