The other day I watched a couple at my local casino. At first I thought they were playing together on the same machine. Then, I realized he was spinning on the 2nd machine every 3 or 4 minutes.

Is this some slot strategy or was he just taking up a chair?

I notice some people barely let a spin finish and they are hitting the spin button again. Must suck your BR down pretty quickly!

What is your technique? Just curious.

Normal speed for me unless I'm down a lot and waiting for a drink in which case I don't want to play the machine any longer but want to get the drink before leaving or moving to another machine.

Haha, I've never had problems ordering two drinks when playing one machine with fiancee.

If I am forced, forced I tell you, to play slots; it's max-bet-keep-pressin'-the-button. I win or I don't. I'm not draggin' this out.

My wife and mother-in-law, however, can stretch a $20 bill into half a day at the casino. Minimum bet, maximum discussion, exuberant display when winning (which, at minimum bet is often less than a dollar, but the video display / bonus / free spin seems to keep them mesmerized). The way they play is taking turns 'spinning', until you lose, then it's the other person's turn. They stay on their side of the casino, I stay on mine.

But I have seen persons who seem to be playing only to take up a chair next to another player. I s'pose that's the polite thing to do, rather than drag away a chair.

I'd say it would be more annoying rather than polite to spin the machine every 3-4 minutes to occupy a seat. The polite thing to do if someone turns up is to ask if they would like the seat, 98-99% of the time they'll say no and you're good.

What I absolutely hate the most is when people near me want to watch credits run from $0.00 to $12.37 for 2 minutes with MAX volume on. Especially every......f'n.....single......time. If you want to watch the show, at least have the decency to turn down the volume a bit.

I must admit, I play pretty slow. Especially if it's not going so well, I will be the one that people hate...running the bonus all the way through. I will try to remember to turn it down next time. Also, aggravates me when people sit at a slot machine not playing. I won't ask for the machine, but it's rude to me.

Oh, you wouldn't want to sit next to my wife or me. We turn the volume to max and let it run. It's fun and we're there to have fun.

Yep, everyone to their liking and it's certainly something you can do if you like it. I personally like playing the machine more than I like hearing a dull ringing effect for 2 minutes 10 times an hour.

The worst are those three reel Hot Hot Penny machines that just have a LOUD ass bell that rings while the credits go. Even a mixed bar hit takes 10 seconds to run the credits up. Awful machines to sit near....

Exactly. Just to make my point clear, I don't mind people watching a bonus etc but things like free spins where you've already seen the credits add up during your spins. Do you absolutely need to watch the credits run from $0.00 to $16.22 for 2 minutes when there's absolutely zero music, zero nothing expect an awful loud RING RING RING RING RING? I mean you already know the amount you've won.

WHAT?. You mean there's a volume knobby thing on them there machines??
Just kidding - like you I'm not into the highest decibel volume.

To answer the OP - I'm always trying to get 'in the zone' with my machine, so it's fast, fast, slow fast, fast, slow or similar combination as I'm trying to synch up with the RNG - matching wits with it - there's a lot going on inside the guts of those things. I think I'm close to cracking the code after 15 years of studying slots.

That's an obnoxious strategy to justify sitting in a seat he had no right to otherwise occupy. If he was just sitting there, anyone could come along and ask him to get up so he could play. By depositing a couple bucks, inserting his players card and spinning every now and again, he is now a player and it makes it harder for someone else to try and get him up so they can play the slot. There are so many varieties of assholes on riverboats but this kind is particularly annoying one.

Max volume, max credits, normal speed. Ear plugs are free if you ask for them.

Slow and if I hit a good amount you can bet I sit back and let the counter do its things.
If sitting next to my wife I may spin once to her twice as I tend to watch how she is doing.

The one machine I DON'T mind someone cranking up the volume is the Willie Wonka game. The Oompa Loompa sound is just so happy! (Though, once I leave Vegas, it's in my head for days.) Don't worry, I don't have my volume cranked, I just don't mind if others do, as long as it's not a really annoying song...in that case, I just move.

But, interesting observance on RNG timing Geogran. Sometimes I'll stop a reel to mix it up if it gets dry, but never thought about speed variances. In thinking about it, when I am TOO in the zone and my speed variances are static, that tends to be when I hit lulls. I'll play with that next trip, good observation!

I will slow play slots but video poker I'm much more Expedient. Variance in slots can be super high so I'm usually just killing time or being social with the gf or a friend.

I would call my speed of play deliberate. I hit the button, let the reels spin, observe the result, and hit the button again. I will usually hit the button before the full payout is loaded on wins, but allow some of the win to load before taking the next spin. Also, I try not to be someone who gets completely lost in the machine and oblivious to my surroundings, so I will often take short breaks to look around and take in the sights, particularly in Vegas where there are more sights than the local casinos.

Watch out there, Multifarious - we don't want to draw attention to this scheme...
We all know every spin is random and independent of all past spins. Yes, indeed we do know that.
BUT it is more fun when playing slots to live in a parallel universe where we can outwit and affect the outcome of those dang Pseudo RNG's. When I win, I always credit my fast, fast, slow strategy - I'm a true believer

Hope you have many slot wins in your future !
