while in Las Vegas last week, my friend was filming all over the strip for a new hip hop song he wrote about las vegas...friday morning we end up on the Linq and he finds a spot near the fountain where he has the High Roller behind him...he gets the camera angle right and our friend starts to take the tripod out, rent a cop comes out of no where and says flamingo and the linq are private property and you need a permit to use a tripod. he asked if he could film without it and that was perfectly fine...then after about 5 minutes, another rent a cop comes out and says we can film but cant block the walkway, we where done anyway and just left

who comes up with a stupid rule like that

anyone have any other weird rules they have encountered there

They don't want people taking professional photos on their property without their permission. They don't want people blocking the walkway making it potential hazardous for the guests. What is wrong or weird about that?

Looks like you have learned a lesson today. If you are going to be an artist and sell your product, there are rules that need to be followed.

I concur. Not sure why CET not wanting people setting up tripods strikes the OP as weird or stupid.

It's been like this for a long time and it's not just CET. Try setting up a tripod in front of any strip hotel, or even on the pedestrian bridges, and you'll be asked to move along. Perfectly understandable from my point of view.

All it takes is one opportunistic gymnastic endeavor involving Joe Patron and the tripod and next thing you know...it's the attorneys who are blocking the walkway.
This is not unheard of. And speaking of photography, I don't really know what the deal is inside casinos in Vegas, but here on the peninsula - at the Seminole Hard Rock -
it's pretty much no photography inside...to include selfies. My amigo had to demonstrate to security that he did indeed delete a selfie he got caught taking upon entering the casino. :confused2:

That's the sad thing that one of the reasons that CET probably bans them is that one accident with a tripod and everybody's in court. To the OP when your friend has done his song make sure he isn't giving CD's away on the over bridge's either as he may run into to problems. lol

you can get a permit to film , from vegas and the property that how vegas makes money.

    theres a film dept

but yes the linq is private property thats why no pandhandlers same with the new park oppening , thats how there going to keep buskers out its private property, u can be trespased from it.

pss i dont see anything from wrong with it, imagine if everyone did what your friend did people woudnt be able to move ,plus there tons off movies and comercials being shoot at the linq all the time and the pay a fee

you can take all the pro pics and video you want, just not with the camera mounted to a tripod...they made that clear, you can film but you cant film on a tripod. also in a spot over 75ft wide at 10am dont think we were blocking more than any group who stops on the linq and talks

nothing is sold, over 15 years and he gives allof it away free, not even like some artist who ask for a donation. he goes 100% out of pocket and gives it away just to get his music out

This is pretty common and isn't even a private/public property thing. I know here in NYC, on public streets you need a permit to film using anything other than handheld equipment or to block off any sidewalks. I'd be surprised if most cities didn't have similar rules.

On the subject of Linq, while it's definitely private property, so are most Las Vegas sidewalks, and unfortunately that's not enough to keep buskers/panhandlers away. They can be trespassed if they're creating a nuisance or blocking traffic, but otherwise there are First Amendment protections, even if it's private property. There was a whole thing about this several years ago, with the guys handing out literature on the sidewalks in front of Bellagio, which are technically private property and owned by the resort.

if there is a law here in new orleans for that, it is not enforced at all, and it wasnt like we went out in a mad rush and set up right in the middle of the walkway, we were in a 75+ foot wide section and to the side in the morning...we got the footage we needed so no biggie

as someone earlier saying they will have you move along from crossovers and all over the strip, i always see people with tripods at Caesars and bellagios fountains and never seen anyone come up to them

as for us, we filmed in front CP, forumn shops, ballys, bellagio, NYNY, xcaliber, linq, carnival court, fuel bar, inside PH and several other spots up and down and not a single issue but at the linq

I don't think the "no tripod" rule is that unusual. Many places also have that rule. I was in Washington DC 3 years ago. I was in front of the capital building. Since I was by myself I whipped out my tripod and started taking pictures of myself in front of the capital. I used the timer and took a few pictures when 3 security people came up to me like I just committed a crime. At first I didn't understand what the problem was because the first security person said "you can't do that". I looked around and saw many people and groups taking pictures but then the second security person said that I can't use my tripod and to move along.

Luckily I took enough "selfie" type pictures with my point and shoot camera but the security people didn't look very happy that I was using a tripod to take pictures.
