Just read this article that says this is pretty much a done deal and all that is left if for an announcement in June during the end-of-the-season awards ceremony which is set in Vegas.

Ironically, my g/f asked about the possibility of a Vegas team after she saw a "Las Vegas" ad on the score display for the Blues/Avalanche game tonight. I said they would likely get one in 2017-18, but I hadn't heard anything. Still holding out hope for the Black Knights hosting the reborn Nordiques!!!

I can drive a 1/2 hour from my house to watch the NHL. That's not what I or many other tourists come to see in Vegas. I kind of doubt there will be enough local interest to keep the team alive. Pass. This is destined to end up like the MGM Amusement Park.

I'm surprised the NHL is expanding, I thought they would move a team from one of the struggling markets. I also thought Quebec was first in line to get a team.

Not impressed with the name, but I'll be taking my team's schedule into consideration and would most definitely catch a game out there if I can work it out. I'm pretty excited actually :)

Would go to see my Blues playing there or the Blackhawks. Might even schedule a trip around those games.

I'm a Sabres fan, and I know their fans travel pretty well. I would definitely schedule a trip specifically around a game, so long as it wasn't on a midweek night or something difficult like that. If the game were played anywhere from Thursday to Monday, I can deal with it.

LOL, great take. I suppose thats why they've already gotten about 14,000 deposits on season tickets, for an arena that will have a hockey capacity of 17,500. Not too mention the fans from around the country that will make a trip out of seeing their team play in Vegas.

I have no doubt they will be every bit a massive success as the Atlanta Thrashers and Phoenix Coyotes.

Drop in Canadian dollar just added a few hundred million to the cost not to mention the annual operating costs.

I disagree. First of all, Vegas is a very large city to not have a major professional sports franchise. I think being the only gig in town will certainly draw some local interest. Furthermore, the big thing that Vegas has going for it, is the huge draw and turnover in visitors it receives from all over the country. Basically any given home game, you'll likely have thousands of visitors in town who are fans of the opposing team. Hell look at this thread and how many people have already replied that they would love to be able to watch their team play LV while on a trip. Given some of the cities that currently have a successful NHL franchise, I think LV will be just fine.

    CORRECT!

Everyone wants an excuse the head to Las Vegas. I know I would catch a game if I could!
