My husband and I are planning for a trip in September for our 10th anniversary and have been surprised at the high rates. We have gone several times before but not in September.

Will the rates drop soon or is this the best I'm getting - about $1,400 hotel and flight for two, four nights at Aria.

Flying from WHERE? I fly from Vancouver BC (Canada) or Bellingham WA (USA)..and I don't pay for rooms, but air can be anywhere from $300 to $1200 per person, so lets say Aria is $200 a night all in,,so flights for two $600 sounds reasonable from wherever. I find June one of the most expensive months when you find an extra 100,000 + kids going to EDC. 300,000 tickets get sold to that show. they have to sleep somewhere!

I love September and October in Vegas. The first weekend in September is expensive (Labor Day) but otherwise those are good months to go. Nice weather and NFL football (which you probably don't care about). December/early January are probably the overall cheapest months.

I too am trying to book a trip in September and have been wondering the same. NYNY is showing sold out a few weekends in September, as well like a whole week. So I have no idea what's going on, or if it's a glitch in their system. The rates seem high at other hotels too. Looking at the convention calendar for my dates doesn't show anything huge.

Granted I can't avoid staying Fri and Sat this trip, but I still feel rates are high when I look at rate calendars.

Hoping others have some insight too!

It is less about the month, and more about the few days. Pull up and MGM or CET hotel monthly rate calendar. You will often see rates go from $59 to $400 in the same month.

Also, price out hotels and flights individually. Airfares move around day to day as well.

For example, I just looked at Mirage for September. Rooms rates go from $105 to $358 per night.

There are some big events in September. I don't think the whole month is expensive but there are things that will blow up room rates here and there going on. Plus it's pool weather so you aren't going to see the lowest possible dangling out there.

Do you have to book flights and hotel together? I used bookit.com for my first few trips to Vegas, but found I scored better deals by buying separately, and watching both airline sites , and then rooms on Mlife, like a hawk. (Definitely sign up on Mlife.) Rooms fluctuate drastically on Mlife. I usually find better deals if I book in advance, but just keep watching (if you're OCD like me). If they drop the price, contact Mlife VIP services and they'll adjust the price.

Also, not sure if you can get backend room comps if you book through a site like orbitz/bookit, etc., but you can ALWAYS try for back end comps if you book direct through Mlife. :) If they tell you "no," you're not out anything, but I don't think I've had ONE trip where I didn't get good backend comps on paid rooms, if I asked. From booking through Mlife, now I don't even need backends, they always give me great promos. Plus, it's easier to cancel booking through Mlife versus a travel site.

On Mlife, one final tip. If you've received ANY promo comps in the past, call Mlife VIP services at the hotel you want, tell them the comps you've received in the past, and see if they can match it. I've done that in the past and won two nights comped at Mlife properties I've never stayed at. Other times, they just say no. It never hurts to ask!

P.S. I went last September, over labor day, I booked way in advance on Mlife, and I got great deals. The in-laws came out on short notice though, and they paid very close to triple what I did for their room, at the same hotel

I agree! Try to book Mon-Thursday as well, though watch out for large conventions that will drive up rates.

It's not the month so much as the room availability. Large conventions, holidays and events (Rodeo, March Madness, etc) all drive up rates for those days that they're in town. Rates DO come down after Thanksgiving until about 2 weeks before Christmas. That's the only slow season in Las Vegas that works by the calendar.

Until a few days, not weeks before Christmas. The week of Dec 10-17 (+/-) is generally the cheapest week of the year. Many shows are dark. Room rates are at rock bottom and casino floors are very quiet M-Th.

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day see rate hikes due to the travelers coming in for the holiday. The 26th-29th are low volume again and then all hell breaks loose.
