    My Trip Report

We arrived in Vegas on March 10th. We were going to the Luxor and the cabbie dropped us off and we went into a small foyer that had an empty check in desk. I was expecting a big crowd but this check in was only two or three stations and no one was there, SWEET! We were checked in within 10 minutes. We got settled in and then went and purchased a couple show tickets at the box office. We got Blue Man Group for that night and Tournament of Kings for Monday night for $90.00 but with taxes and fees it was about $110.00 a piece. We then hit the slots for a while. We walked over to Mandalay Bay to the House of Blues and had dinner. Then went back and really enjoyed the Blue Man Group.

Friday was pretty quiet until about 4pm we headed over to NY-NY for dinner at Nine Fine Irishmen where we had MyVegas comps of buy one get one free entrees. Which is actually $35.00 off which there was four of us and we had two comps so we ended up having $70.00 off. We then headed over to Aria for the Zarkana show. Before the show we did some slots. I sat down at the Keno machine and put in $20.00. A few minutes later I hit for $385.00. Me being me I hit the cash out button and stopped playing. We then met up and went to the show which again was a really good show that we enjoyed.

Saturday was a busy day. We walked to down to the Mirage for breakfast with more buy one get one free MyVegas comps. After breakfast we went to Sigfried and Roy Secret Garden. It was pretty cool and we got to see the dolphins train and all the big cats lounging in the sun. We then caught a cab down to the Neon Sign Museum and did that tour. Next we headed over to the Mob Museum and toured it for the next 1 1/2 hours. We then walked up the block to the Downtown Grand and into the S&O Cafe for my favorite meal in Vegas, the Prime Rib special for $9.95. After our fantastic meal we dropped a little money in the casino. I again sat down at a Keno machine and lo and behold I hit for another $405.00. I had spent a lot of the last jackpot so I was happy to replenish my winnings. We left there and went on up to Fremont Street Experience. We did the walking around and bounced in a few of the casinos. We ended up leaving about 10:30 and headed back down to the Luxor for the night.

SUNDAY...We rented a SUV and headed on out to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon. We arrived and took the shuttle on over to the ranch. It was a cool day so I bought a hoodie to wear. We then hopped the shuttle for Eagle Point and the Walkway. We all walked down to the edge for the view. Then we headed back up and towards the Walkway. I decided to walk down to the edge one more time. When I started back up I realized I had wandered into a roped off area. So I started walking towards the end of the rope to get out of it. I came to a large crack in the stone (about 8 inches wide) which I found out later is called a fracture. I went to step over the fracture and the next thing I know I was falling. I fell fast and hard. I landed on my elbow and jammed my arm up. I heard what sounded like two cracks in my upper arm and I was immediately in pain. A nice man helped me get up and I headed towards my brother who was coming towards me. I told him I thought I might have broken my arm but I could move my hand and fingers so that was a good sign. He got help and EMT's were sent over. They told me they thought I had dislocated my shoulder. They gave me two options, I could drive the 2 hours or so back to Vegas or I could fly by helicopter. At first I was going to tough it out and ride back in the SUV but the pain in my arm kept increasing so I opted for the helicopter. They flew me back to Vegas and to the Sunrise Hospital. Of course I was there for about 4 or 5 hours. They took xrays and verified my shoulder was dislocated. I wear glasses and need them to see close up. My glasses were in my hoodie pocket after I fell. Well they cut my new hoodie off of me to work on me. After a while they finally said they were going to put me to sleep long enough to put my shoulder back in place. Once they got it back in place the pain was 90% better. They then told me I could leave. Here comes the glasses part. I asked for my glasses and needless to say NO ONE had seen them and couldn't find them. I kept telling them I had my glasses in my hoodie pocket and I knew I had them. They kept saying they weren't there. I was starting to get really aggravated because I needed my glasses to see. My GF and a candy striper were in the curtained off area at that point. I got up and started digging through the trash bin that they had thrown my cut off clothes in. My GF started fussing at me about digging in there and I kept saying I needed my glasses. I finally started to snap and said to her, "I had my Fing glasses when I came in here and I want my Fing glasses before I leave because I want to see properly." Of course she got upset because I yelled at her and I tried to get her to understand that I wasn't yelling at her but the situation. I finally went to the release area where the release person started talking about my deductible and money and such. I told her I didn't carry that kind of money with me on vacation. She kept yammering on about money and I finally got disgusted with her and said, "So what the hell is the minimum that I need to pay to get the hell out of here? She said $500.00 and I told her I didn't have that much. I did tell her I had $400.00 and she said that would work. I dug into my wallet and fished out the $400 I won at the DTG the night before. I was pissed that I was having to pay money to get out of the hospital. My GF walked in and asked what was going on and since I was in rare form still I snarled to her that, "I feel like I'm a Fing hostage and have to pay a ransom to get out of here." I then just walked out. We made it back to the Luxor and I was done for the night. I wouldn't have been so pissed but they had lost my glasses and swore I never had them in the first place when I knew that I did.

The rest of the trip was just normal as can be with me running around in a sling. I spent enough money trying to win my $400.00 back that the hospital took as "payment" but I didn't win anymore. The flight home was pretty uneventful and the ride from the airport home was normal.

So all in all I had an up and down vacation this time around.

Ohhh...when I got back home I had two voicemails that the hospital had found my glasses. I called them and they said they would mail them to me. Almost a week later and no glasses yet. I'm terrified of the bill for the helicopter ride to the hospital. I'm praying my insurance will pay for it...*fingers crossed*

    Damn! What an adventure!

You do know that the airfare on that helicopter will no doubt be significantly more than the Grand Canyon helicopter tours. I'm sure there was no in-flight commentary on what you were seeing as you flew.

Glad you weren't more seriously injured. Seems like the "roped off" area should have been roped off a little better to prevent someone from being able to access it as you did.

Hope you get your glasses back soon. Better luck on your next trip, if you do return to Vegas.

    Wait...you're a dude?
Also...fuck, ER Visit co-pay was $500? That's gonna be cheap...when you get the bill for that chopper ride.
Edit: Martin beat me to it.

Oh I'll go back! The next trip with my brother and sister-in-law we'll go out there again to the walkway since we didn't make it this time.

What an adventure. Sorry about the trip to the ER. I work in a hospital and our ER does ask for copays up front. Most people don't have it. We never strong arm anyone to pay up front. When you get your final bill after insurance pays -- all hospitals take payments over time. They cannot turn you into collections as long as you pay monthly.
