I read something about not putting 50's on the table when you start playing blackjack. I have played a few times and have probably done this. Is it really frowned upon, and why? Also why don't they hand out 10 dollar bills when you get change?

It's considered bad luck to gamblers.

Problem up here in the north, is the that the ATM's spit out pink $50 notes when you are requesting anything large. No worries with our funny money getting confused between denominations!

I thought it was because President Grant who appears on the bill lost his fortune.

All very interesting theories. Money is money and I could give a crap about these superstitions.

I worked at the Horse Races one year taking bets and was told the first day on the job not to give a $50 bill back in change or winnings ever. Bad luck.

But, some people must have used them to make bets or they wouldn't have been in cash drawer. :poke:

It's funny that in all my many years I had never heard that till just last year. I'm not superstitious per say but hence forth all gambling trips no 50's did just 20's or hundys. Well guess what... 20's and 100's are bad luck this year too :) back to whatever I have goes in the pot. haha

I did not know this too when I came too vegas last year. When I changed my money in Belgium I got $2 k in $50 bills. So I sit down at BJ table and put 4 bills on the Table. 2 other guys start moaning and grumbling About this and I have no clue whats going on. 1.5hours later I walk away with $800 and others guys have a simalor profit. When I walk away one of them tells he was About to leave because of the 50's

I personally don't care and would use them. But if other people believe they are bad luck I respect that and don't use them.

I believe this has to do with the cash machines and mechanics, not anything to do with superstition. There really is just no need for another stack of bills in another slot for the program to work off of. 1,5,20,100 does the job. If you go to the cashier's cage they will use 10s in cashing you out.

I tried the $2 bill tip thing in vegas once and they were not received well. They sort of looked at them funny and not in a good way. Ended up just changing the rest in for other bills.
