You will get brain overload but also a lot of good suggestions. Ask any question and it will be answered. Just try not to do everything your first trip. I am sure once you go to Vegas you will return many times. Welcome to vmb.

I agree with Miller12pack. Leave plenty of room in the itinerary for wandering and gawking at all the things.

Can you give us more info about your thoughts at this point? Do you have a hotel picked? Things you want to do for sure? Things you aren't sure are even available?

And when you do ask questions like "Where should I stay/eat/play/etc?" be sure to give us a little info about who you are and what you are looking for. Sometimes people will ask for a restaurant recommendation without mentioning their budget or preferences and that makes it hard to give a good answer. You don't want us recommending high end places if you have an In N Out budget. :)

How exciting! I wish I could do my first trip all over now that I know so much. :haha: I hope you'll come back here and tell us all about it. I love Vegas Virgin Trip Reports.

OK so hotels I initially looked at are Bellagio, The Mirage, Aria, Venetian, Vdara and Wynn.

My first thought was to stay somewhere nice and spend however much it was but the more I think of it the more I'm starting to now think about staying somewhere cheaper.
How much time am I really going to be spending in my room? So somewhere comfortable and clean and in a good location would be fine, besides the more money I save on accommodation means more money for me to play with :)

As far as my budget for the whole trip goes... I have no idea!! How much am I likely to spend in a week?

For a first trip, I'd recommend staying on the Strip. Pricier, but you want the experience. Save Downtown for a later trip.

How much you have to spend helps determine how much time you will spend in your room. My first trip to Vegas I stayed at TI, and everything included I spent about $1000. My budget now is about $8-10k. Even the worst room on the strip really isn't all that bad. It may not have the most comfortable bed, but at 30 (I'm 35) you can probably deal with it. In the trips I have made I've never stayed at the same place twice varying from Hooters to a $500/night suite at CP. I personally don't care where I stay, but my wife does, which is why I am a little more picky now. I spend most of my trips in the casino and out exploring, my room is really just a place for me to sleep.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking now, for my first visit I want to be out exploring and seeing the sights and enjoying myself not sitting in my room, as lovely as may be.

So now I guess the location is the main factor what kind of places would be around the $100 mark per night? Or is this a bit ambitious for somewhere in a prime location.

The three nights I will be there is a Mon-Thurs during a slow week. Lots of shows are dark, clubs not open, etc. $100/night would get you a small suite at Excalibur and probably other low end strip hotels (Linq, Trop, Luxor, Ballys). On a busy weekend $100 will Not even get you a basic room at these places. I just checked Excaliburs website and basic rooms Memorial Day weekend were $169/nt plus resort fee and taxes comes to about $220 a night.

$100/nt may get you a weekend room at hooters, otherwise it would be off strip.

Thanks for that the time of year will be end of August start of September. OK so I will look at more expensive places to stay. I've only just decided on Vegas recently so have absolutely no idea or any sort of plan or ideas at the moment haha.

I don't know where you live. Do you have a Caesar's property (CET) near you? If you do, I think it would be a good idea to visit and get yourself a Total Rewards players card. Even with just a gold TR player's card and little play, you can get some good discounted rates at their hotels in Vegas. They own Harrah's, The Linq, Flamingo, Paris and Bally's which all have great locations in the center of the strip.

Have fun planning your trip! Still today, after many visits to Vegas, the planning and anticipation is a big part of the fun for me.

Ok, so no Caesar's casinos nearby then, lol :goofy:.
But still good to know Harrah's, The Ling, Flamingo, Paris and Bally's are great strip locations. As are Mirage, Treasure Island and Venetian. I agree that you want to be on the strip for your first trip. So much to take in!

What's it like August September time? Does it start to wind down a bit? Do many hotels drop prices or give good offers etc? Or is it just non stop all year.

Also do you all book your flights and accommodation separately?

    1. Any exploring and wandering around you will be doing in August/September will be late at night. Otherwise you will explode. You have no idea how hot and dry it will be unless you've spent time in Iraq. The Vegas sun will fry your English skin like bacon.

    2. I counted around 40 conventions in town during your time frame. Don't count on any deals on rooms.

    3. We book rooms separately, but then again, we drive to Vegas. ;)

    4. Personally, I would book something center Strip that wasn't too expensive, like Linq, Harrah's, or Mirage. That way you can still walk to a number of casinos/resorts without hiking for miles.

Looking at a number of other posts and pages the mirage seems to get a lot of mentions!
