I used to love walking around with a bucket of coins. I would scoop those coins out and my fingers were black and if I rubbed my face, I would have a mark on my face. Casinos would give out the white glove so you didn't get dirty. Now I know tito is much easier, but I still play coin payouts. The D upstairs and my favorite El Cortez. Toto or buckets?

While I have some fond memories walking the A/C boardwalk with a bucket of coins back in the day from casino to casino, today I have to say Tito all the way. I also remember the cashier cages had little sanitary wipe packets to clean your hands after cashing in. If I look enough I could probably find a bucket in our storage from The Trump Plaza and Taj, and Caesars from A/C. I use to bring them back for my garage to store nuts and bolts and stuff.

Sorry, TITO's all the way. No fond memories of coins. PITA to sit and wait for a $50 hand-pay on a nickel machine - or $250 on a quarter machine. Not to mention going into the bathroom only find you've got black stuff ALL over your face :)

I'm a bit of a germ-o-phobe so Coins and/or Tokens were the one thing I hated about Vegas.

Coins were a good way to slow the losing... more time to put them in the machine, more time to get them out! Finding dollar trays to schlep them to the coin booth, no thanks! Josie is right ...entirely a PITA.

Probably the most positive change was incorporating TITO.

From the customer standpoint it was cleaner, easier to handle, with no wait for small handpays. Plus no standing in line to redeem buckets of coins and reduces theft and spillage.

From the Casino's standpoint it was more efficient, (less slot attendants), got customers to play faster, and enabled them to make huge profits in less time.

People always resist change, but this change was for the better.

Yes, I forgot spillage. I hit 4 deuces once for 1,000 quarters. Cashed them out, went to turn them in - tripped and dropped them. Quarters EVERYWHERE.

TITO killed the cottage industry of the bar vp coin return miners.

Feeding in the coins was a good way to slow play. I'll admit I was sour to the idea of Tito's at first. But not having that black stuff all over me is enough for me to admit, I'm a convert.

I rarely play machines so maybe that's why I miss the buckets more than regular machine players do. Something cool about carrying your quarters from machine to machine. Having the change cart with the stick flag roaming around. The real (not computer) sound of coins dropping.

The only thing I miss about coins was the bucket. Those things are handy around the house for all sorts of things. Most of the ones we came home with have disintegrated over the years.

I don't miss the grime, but I really miss that sound of coins dropping in the hopper, especially the dollars.
I still have so many coins and a couple of buckets - they are precious momentos! I look at them, and go back in time.

I would take grime, good noise, and buckets over titos.

Tito all the way for me.
Agreed with the other poster that mentioned money lasting longer the old way tho.

Some Casinos Downtown still maintain coin droppers. Boyd does this. There are still some patrons who love to play machines the old way. But Boyd properties only have it in VP I believe.

The D used to have regular slot coin droppers upstairs. Not sure if they still have them.

I still remember a solo trip where I sat at a VP machine and put a hundy in. After a couple of spins I didn't want to play anymore so I hit the cash out button. Instead of a TITO I got a whole shitload of quarters dropping in the hopper.

    I was pissed.

I never had any big wins when everything was coin-in, so I never had a problem and I liked carrying around my bucket of coins. It took our local small casinos awhile longer to finally all change over to TITO. My first big wins of 1000 quarters came during the time when most places had a mixture of old and new, so I got to experience both with and without TITO. I find TITO more convenient and easier instead of lugging heavy full buckets of quarters to stand in line. The old Sahara had a self serve coin counting machine near the VP I would play, so it wasn't too bad, but I never won much on those. Now that the norm is TITO, I prefer it for ease of use.

The buckets were OK if people would cash the coins in. I thought it was really funny (and dumb) watching the folks carrying the buckets through a buffet line. That is just foolish. Also, why carry the bucket out of the casino? Didn't they know they could get another bucket at the next casino? TITO is one of the few improvements from the "Good old days".
    Good luck. :beer::beer:

Totally agree, the free buckets were so useful for storage and organizing things :)

I prefer TITO, but, during our first trip I wanted a bucket from every casino as a souvenir. I saw lots of people carrying stacks on them along the strip, myself included.
