My wife and I have been going to Vegas for numerous years and during that time found many ways to have fun and save money at the same time. Problem is it seems as if every time we found cost saving measures Vegas took them away, hence the tile of this post (all good things come to an end). The following are a few examples. Does anybody have any to add?

    - Before Flamingo fenced in their pool you used to be able to access the deli at the Hilton time share behind the pool to buy refreshments and snacks. Now that it's fenced in you have to buy from them at a much higher price.
    - You used to be able to stand around the outside of Carnival Court and watch the bands and drink refreshments purchased elsewhere. Now you have to enter through security with no outside refreshments, pay a cover charge (evening) and buy high priced drinks.
    - Used to be able to buy refreshments from convenient stores (cheaper) on Fremont St. and drink while walking around. Now you have to buy from casino (expensive).
    - BOGO margaritas and free chips and salsa at Pink Taco. Now you have to buy chips and salsa.

It will be interesting to see what others have to say

The first ones that spring to mind are all the logoed crap the casinos used to give away to just about everybody. Hats, T-shirts, windbreakers...you name it, they would find a way to give it to you. A dozen years ago or so, we would always come home with enough clothing and glassware to fill out our "not really that good of friends" gift list for the year. Try to find that stuff these days!

Circus circus fanny packs and visors. And ashtrays from every place with a name on it. We even came home with coin buckets. Wish we had them now. Good memories and good times.

You have to buy the beer from the official casino bars on Freemont. The stores that sell beer have signs saying it can't be consumed on Freemont street and they tie the beers up in a bag. Hasn't stopped me from opening the bag anyway and no one has said anything to me about it.

So many things have changed, I guess it is part of getting old.

Some of the things I really miss--

Good VP at any bar, Free live lounge acts, Good inexpensive food (buffets, graveyard specials), Old School Coffee Shops, Cheezy giveaways, Anybody remember the key chain picture viewers? $.99 shrimp at GG Deli. The Fontana Bar at Bellagio. Funbooks, Low Mins, Good BJ rules on the Strip. Snack Bars (Westward Ho, Slots of Fun). Dog and a beer at Lady Luck, ... and many more.

Wow, all this free stuff probably explains why a lot of places bankrupted haha jk. All that aside, I feel like people have changed in terms of expectations. I feel like the level of luxury that people expect has gone up. Even the nice places in the 80s and 90s weren't that nice by today's standards. Given this added expense, the freebies had to go away. That and the investors want increasing returns so that means tightening belts.

A deck of cards. You can still get them, just not readily like before. I given away a lot of free advertising.

You buy the beer or whatever you want to drink you then go into a casino on Fremont St and grab a glass or 2 from the area by the door, you walk thru the casino while opening and then pouring your beverage into the glass or glasses (The D has nice big glasses by the door) you then walk out while depositing your now empty bag it the trash can by the door.
    Problem Solved
