I'll be in Vegas from March 27th until April 1st. I'm very excited but very wary as our (Canadian) dollar is not worth very much. I'm tryin gmy best to get the best deals that I can. I'm staying at the El cortez, I've purchased a couple of Groupons and I have maxed out my 3 Myvegas redemptions.

But I'm missing out on shows. Any advice? It will be my husbands first time there and I would like to see a comedian.

Thoughts? Advice? I'm open to all suggestions. Rides, shows, food etc...

    Thanks a million!

Another Canadian here and just came back from a frugal trip with my kid. I researched every free thing he could do downtown and all the free offers around and would love to share.

    What games do you play?

We didn't look for show offers but I might be able to help on other good deals downtown.

As a starter, if you are leaving from the Elco on your flight back to Canada, they have a free towncar shuttle to the airport every hour. It only holds 4 people so be sure to book it when you check in. It's a free trip but tip is appreciated.

Nathan Burton Comedy Magic at Planet Hollywood is pretty good. The Vegas guidebooks that are all over town used to have $10 ticket coupons. I've seen the show several times using that deal.

Here are a couple of sites to help get you started:

    http://www.vegas4locals.com/coupons/

    https://www.goldstar.com/

I think The D downtown has a comedy show. I'm not sure if there are any ticket discounts available.

There's plenty of good inexpensive dining downtown, even without coupons. Try the prime rib at Market Street in the California, 1/2 price happy hour appetizers at Chicago Brewing in Four Queens, or happy hour personal pizzas for $5 - $7 at Pizza Rock.

Since it's your husbands first time, have him sign up for some player's cards. Have him ask for 2 cards and then you can both play with his card until you get the points you need. If you're playing slots, you should be able to pick up some points fairly quickly and take advantage of some free offers.

4 Queens - before your husband signs up for his card, have him spin the free wheel on the big machine at the entrance closest to The D. I've never seen anyone win anything (hopefully you do!) but they will give you a coupon sheet for some deals. As a new player, he'll get a free deck of cards and a 2 for one offer at Magnolia's restaurant in 4 Queens. After you put 20 points on the card, you will get $10 in free play back. If you put 70 points on the card, you will get a free t-shirt. As Jason mentioned, the Chicago Brew Club at 4Q has 1/2 price appies from 3-6 as well.

Binion's - have your free picture taken with a million dollars. Our pictures turned out great and she made extra copies for us as well. We didn't check the new sign up offers there but they may have a bogo offer for the restaurant at Binion's or some free play. It might be worth checking out.

Plaza - new members can get up to a $500 rebate on losses. They will give you half back 24 hours after you first play and the other half back the next day. So my son signed up at 5 pm and played through and lost $100 dollars during the time we were there. The next day at 5 pm, he went to the player's club and had $50 free play put on his card. Then the next day at 5 pm, they put his remaining $50 free play on his card. It only works in increments of $100 though so if you lose $195, you'll only get $100 back. It's worth keeping track of.

The Plaza also had 2 $5 blackjack tables open so it's a great place to try table games if you're interested.

Mermaid's - While the gambling odds aren't the greatest, it's an easy place to get free drinks. When you walk in, the girls out front will give you some free beads. We were just doing a walk through and were offered a drink before we even sat down.

Boyds Properties (Fremont, California and Main Street Station) - When you sign up for a player's card at any one of these places, you'll get $5 free play after running through $5.

    V (35).jpg

El Cortez - New members get $5 free play after earning 500 points and a free burger after earning 1500 points. El Cortez is great for giving away freebies so swipe your card often at the booths in the player's club to see what you have.

The rooms at El Cortez have Keurig coffee makers now. They have packs of coffee in your room to buy but I'm sure you could get it cheaper from a grocery store. Bring some coffee from home, buy a small bottle of Bailey's from the ABC store and some muffins from The Market and you've got breakfast taken care of.

The Market - This store is across from the El Cortez and has great coffee for the morning (we forgot our coffee at home :() They also have a deli bar and make sandwiches at reasonable prices.

The Downtown Container Park - just down from El Cortez. Go at night and you'll see the large praying mantis shooting fire. Grab a lock from the dollar store to bring with you and leave a memory of your trip to visit next time.

There's so much to see downtown without spending a ton of money. Have a great trip emeraldsky!

Edit - I almost forgot The D. I believe they have a comedy show but sign up for a card at the player's booth first because they may give you a 2 for one offer. Also the horse racing machine upstairs is a great place to slow roll and get free drinks. You won't earn points for your play but can bet as little as 25 cents a race while nursing free cocktails.

There is a free pull outside Binions with a give-away sheet as well.

I am Canadian and use Goldstar and Groupon all the time for shows in Vegas. Never a bad experience. For a comedian, I highly recommend Carrot Top, currently available on Goldstar. Excellent seats every time I have booked through them and much cheaper than box office prices. I've seen Carrot Top multiple times and I was actually reluctant to see him the first time, but damn his show is funny! I could honestly see it every trip. He keeps his material current and it is a fun show!

Make sure you take advantage of ElCo's 5% back in freeplay when using the ATM up to $50/month. You and your husband can each do it on your first day there, and since your trip spans two months, do it again on April 1, for a total of $200USD*(1/0.75) = $267CAD!

From Canada as well and loaded up on Groupons on our last trip for food and events.

You can get the American Casino Guide Coupon Book off of Amazon.ca for about $25 Canadian. You just have to look through the coupon list and see if you will get your money out of it. Since you are staying downtown you might get some mileage out of the food and shows coupons. I am going to grab one this time around and see how it goes.

I also am a huge Carrot Top fan (There are discounts for him on http://www.smartervegas.com/shows/carrot_top/ticketsdiscounts.aspx as well) but since you are staying downtown if you want a fun economical show I highly recommend Mike Hammer. It is billed as Comedy/Magic, but it is as much comedy as it is magic and a very enjoyable way to spend an evening. He is at the Four Queens.
The Elvis (Steve Connolly) show right after Mike Hammer is a great show too.

To do this promotion after the first month, be aware there is a minimum points earned in the previous month requirement. There are ATM charges (less than $4 I believe) for each withdrawal, so you may want to boost your daily ATM limit at your bank before you travel if needed to $1010 or $2020. You can do the promo in smaller increments, but there's a charge each time. You should be able to do the $1000 max twice using yours & your husband's players cards. Check with the cashier cage employees (not the players club) and they will give you specific details.
