I have never placed a bet at a sports book. I will be in Vegas at the Four Queens in mid May. A friend I work with wants me to place a $40 bet on the Baltimore Orioles to win the world series. Can I place the bet for him?...and How do I go about placing the bet?
    Thanks in advance.

Just walk up to the clerk and pretty much tell them exactly what you just said. "Hi, I just want to bet 40 dollars on the Orioles to win the World Series please." And within about 9 seconds you'll be holding a ticket in exchange for your 40 bucks. Done and done.

There will be big sheets of paper in the sports book on magazine rack looking things...just find the one that corresponds to the MLB World Series ...it will list all the teams and their odds to win. It will also list a bet ID number that corresponds to each team. Walk to the cashier bet taker person and tell them u want $40 on bet number whatever the orioles are.

Or do what coyot said lol. But if you're gonna go to the bet taker window anyway u might be interested in looking at the sheets to see if u wanna put down any other bets also.

I wouldn't tell the cashier your making the bet for a friend, I think that might be frowned upon.

Like others said just walk to the betting window, tell them what you want. Then give the ticket to your buddy when u get home.

If the Orioles win the series he can just mail it in and they will send him a check.

Just a tip,if you plan on visiting the casinos in that area, check the different books and watch the big board for the' MLB Championship.'
The printed sheet may be older odds from before the season starts in April.but the betting # id will be the same...Or ask the teller if they are not busy.
Some places may have longer odds on Baltimore than others.
You always want to 'shop' for the best price and your buddy to get the best possible return on his bet.
Every point in the odds X-1 means an additional $40.. GL on your trip!

Agreed. "It's for a friend" is a huge red flag in any age-controlled transaction. Case in point, one time I was buying cigarettes for my then-girlfriend, and she asked me to get her a "pack of Belmonts". Being a non-smoker, I didn't know that they came in different lengths. The convenience store clerk asked me "did you want regular or long?". Not thinking, I told him "it's for my girlfriend, she told me she wanted Belmonts, so whatever the most common one is, I guess". His eyes widened, he closed the drawer and said "I cannot sell you cigarettes". I then told him I wanted them for myself, and he wasn't hearing any of it. Had I just kept my mouth shut, I'd have gotten my hands on those cigarettes without incident.

So yeah, keep it simple. Don't volunteer any more information than is necessary. Orioles. World series. 40 bucks. That's it.

You're supposed to the know the number of the bet you want to make. Every bet has a number. It makes things go faster. If you don't know the number, and I've gone up there not knowing the number and having the wrong number, go when it's not busy and tell the clerk it's your first time and you don't know the number but you want to bet $40 on the Orioles to win the World Series. The clerk will grab the sheet and get the number for you. I would tip $1 for this service.

I have a hard time believing that any ticket writer is going to care who you are buying the ticket for.

Even if I was really buying it for my underage niece who would love to place a bet on the game, and I outwardly alluded to that possibility?

Yes. You have to remember, this is a low wage job, and most of the people who punch up those tickets are sports gambling degenerates. That's why they took the job. As long as the person buying the ticket is of age, the writer has done nothing wrong, IMO.

Funny I put bets in for people at work all the time..If one is a real eye-roller (Say the Browns to win the SB) I say it's for a friend so the writer thinks I'm sober or not plain crazy..
The writers don't care WHO the bet is for period.YOU are making the bet thus it is YOU and YOUR ticket now.

You could say you're making a bet for Pete Rose and what are they allowed to do legally?

Yes yes yes - make a copy of it because it will likely fade

Also store it in a ziplock bag to help it not fade

Thank you to everyone...I now know how to bet in a sports book. I'll be checking them out downtown.
