Eastside Cannery - Hints, Suggestions?

I'll be in Vegas next month for a bachelor party. Splitting my nights between the Orleans and Eastside Cannery. I know the Orleans well, but have never stepped foot in the Cannery.

Anyone have any tips, hints, suggestions for the property? I'm the only person from my party staying there (got the nights comped by way of their sister property out here, near Pittsburgh) so I don't need to entertain others, but just need to worry about getting myself to/from the strip and having a decent meal or two on my own, as well as take advantage of any decent games they may have there.

They've got an online game called we pass you can use to score free food and a $10 match play coupon. They also used to have a mailer called the Reporter they gave out to new guests which included a $10 matchplay and if you walk around the floor and check trash cans (yes, that's what I said), you could find 2-3 more matchplays. They often have decent promotions where 200 points gets you $10 to their restaurant or something like that.

 

Walking around the Eastside Cannery checking trash cans, wondering how to get back to the strip. Right.

If the rest of the crew is at the Orleans, week nights can be bad off strip for peanuts. Getting back to the strip isn't the easiest. Boulder Highway is out there.

haha yeah, not the most useful? I think there's a shuttle from Sam's Town which is next door.

They have most of the latest slots, though not many of each. Above responses assume you won't have a car, and I agree with them in that case. However, if you have a car, there's no problem getting around and several casinos along Boulder to choose from. They have a few full pay VP machines near Marilyn's lounge bar according to VPfree. Last time we were there they were somewhere else. Have eaten at buffet and coffee shop - not worth paying much for either, though the breakfast in the coffee shop was fine.

 

Eastside Cannery has 9/6/90 JoB which has a payback of 99.99%!

 

You will spend most of the trip wondering why you didn't just stay at the Orleans. For one thing, the distance between the two is extreme...even if it is the Sam's Town shuttle, why go to LV and spend all that time in a van? Not sure how you are planning to get to the strip from there, but a cab would be equal to a normal weeknight at the Orleans (minus the resort fee).

ECannery has the typical buffet and steakhouse along with a decent deli near the sportsbook. As a local, my only experience there was to take advantage of a $500 free play they were offering to new club sign-ups (no longer available) so we went a few times to cash that in and then there was no compelling reason to go back especially considering that part of town.

 

Sounds like you'll be staying at both. Getting from one to the other will either involve an expensive cab ride or a shuttle to the strip and then from Ballys to the Orleans or in reverse If you start at the Orleans. I like the Ecan myself. Rooms are good sized with a mini refer. No coffee maker but there's coffee just off the elevator. I got a couple for free coffee for each night. I don't know if that's normal. Don't know about slots, but VP was ok not great. Table action was good and the sports book is sizable and you can see all the screens from the bar. The coffee shop is just that. I only had breakfast. Steakhouse looks decent, but if you want a steak, walk next door to Sam's and go to Billy Bob's Steakhouse. I try to get there every trip no matter where I stay. Service sans one bartender was friendly and prompt across the board. I definitely will return.

I loved East Cannery, during a day visit it took about forty-five minutes of VP to qualify for a free lunch buffet. There is a western themed casino across the street that gave us those Grandma vending machine cookies for signing up and the casino is without a doubt the smokiest place on the planet. Sam's Town shuttle is twenty minutes from the Strip, but is a fair hike from Ecan.

 

That would be Longhorn Casino.

 

Ask for a corner room. 2 sets of windows where you got a nice partial view of the strip. We liked it when we stayed a few years ago. It was only a year or sold old then.
We had a car so didn't have any trouble getting around. It looked like a good walk even to Sam's though.

 

You can grab the 202 just north of Sams, to the Gold Coast and shuttle to the Orleans from there.

 

If you take the ST shuttle, I believe it drops you off at Harrahs (not sure exactly where). You can then walk across the street to Ceasars to pick up the shuttle to GC and Orleans. Keno60's way works well also. Either way, it will take quite a bit of time to get back to Orleans.

 

Buffet is sub par, eat at the longhorn across the street. Heck do all your gambling there also. East side does have decent BJ. The rooms are some the nicest I use.

Decent casino overall but food is far superior elsewhere

 

As far as food is concerned, the deli by the sportsbook puts out good sandwiches and salads for a decent price. Never had the buffet as they're not open for breakfast and I rarely do them for lunch or dinner. The cafe has decent breakfast food. I ate at the steakhouse once and had no problem with it. If you want a steak and don't mind a ten minute walk to Sam's, Billy Bob's is much better. I like exiting the elevator directly into the casino. Checkin/out is a few steps away and valet is not much further. I like the feel of the casino and sportsbook along with easy in and out for cars.

Carve at Eastside Cannery absolutely blows Billy Bobs out of the water. It's not even close. Carve has some of the best Prime Rib in Vegas, and chocolate layer cake that rivals Strip House. Billy Bobs has gristle.

I've been eating at Billy Bob's for over twenty years. In that time I've eaten with many first timers and recommended it to numerous others who ate there. In that time this is the first negative I've heard. You can get a bad steak at any restaurant from time to time, but I can't see it happening there very often. Carve is fine, but I still stand by Billy Bob's.
