I'm entertaining a quick weekend off strip next month to watch The Masters. I've never noticed the sports book there. Is it large, by off strip standards, comfortable chairs and couches? Basically would this be a relaxing place to camp out for four days to watch the Masters? Thanks in advance for any help/advice/pics that you would be able able to share with me. Thanks gang!!! :peace::beer:

Yes, it's a large book by off-strip standards. However, as more of a locals casino, the book caters to horse players as much or more than sports bettors. As you'll mostly be in the company of grumpy old men, I would guess it will be a relatively calm, quiet environment in which to watch golf. I've never watched a game there, so I can't comment on the comfort of the seating arrangements.

I don't bet sports, but let me add that the Mardi Gras Bar provides a nice sitting area with tables and chairs where you can view everything going on in the sports book. The table game side of the bar has the usual tall stools, but the sports book side has lower more comfy chairs. That's where I hang out when I need a break from the tables. The hot dog cart ($1.50) is right there, which doesn't hurt either.

I totally agree with this observation----I too frequent the sports book side of Mardi Gras bar--

Hi Mike. I enjoy the book over there once in awhile. It is larege for a non strip book and i enjoy seeing some different odds / bets that the strip may offer. However, not a fan of the chairs they have in the book but reading tutrle's idea anove maybe best of both worlds. Enjoy

There are only about 20 chairs in the sports book. They all look towards some 40" screens, about 50 feet away. Not the best for watching the games or golf.

agree with rush on this one. also can be very smoky in the sports book with the 20 chairs watching the tv/s which are in my opinion not conducive to watching golf. however, there are tv's at all of the bars and you are of course much closer to the tv's. in addition, there is a much larger tv/ viewing area on the south side of the casino which would really work for watching the masters. i really like the palms and the M Resort for watching this type of event. good luck and enjoy.

    Good to know!
I have an offer at Orleans and, although I've gambled there, have never placed a sports/horse bet at Orleans. I just received a 3 nights offer and that could tilt my decision to stay there vs. other properties. Thanks.

I've stayed at the Orleans many times and the sportsbook is decent size. See the image here:

I'd suggest hunkering down at the gator bar inside the orleans to watch sports or even walking across the street to mcmillians irish pub if you want to watch and have pints!

If you do get seats inside the orleans sportsbook, my guess is the sound won't be great as a large majority of the people are there for horse racing.

Check out this App if you want to hear The Masters while you are there (for a golf nerd like me, sound at Augusta is imperative) It's called "Tunity," and it allows you to sync with muted TVs anywhere. You just scan the tv with your camera and it syncs the sound. Orleans will definitely have many options for watching the Masters.

The Orleans is good as off strip locations go. Personally, I prefer "The Orleans 2.0," South Point. My locals buddy and I have watched numerous majors down there. Seating is always ample and the race book is an entirely separate area. Actually on the other side of the wall behind the big screens and the writers. If you're mobile (car), I would go there.

    Good Luck!

Is this only for golf or any sporting event?

Yeah, what's up with that at Westgate? You walk from a sports book that you could genuinely use a blimp hangar, to a bathroom that looks like what you find at McDonald's.

The Orleans is a place to make a bet not watch sport. The seats are set back from the window with TV's above the window so small you can barely see them. Imagine trying to watch a game standing 50 feet back in your yard through your living room window. For football you can't see the score or time on the screen. You could sit in the bar others have suggested. Or you could go to a Cantor book like Palms, Tropicana or venetian with huge crystal clear TV's. Mirage also has a really nice huge screen.
