What is an appropriate small gift for a host?

This board has been GREAT on advice, so hopefully some of the host-assigned veterans can help with this...

I've always had great comps on Mlife promos, to the point I've never acted on a host card when I received them. (I know hosts are busy, and while I bring in enough play to make me attractive to casinos, I don't feel it merits monopolizing a host's time.)

I received a generous promo at a new property, and I was assigned a host. We haven't had a ton of interaction, but enough that I've been impressed with her, as she knows I'm a moderate player (not a whale), yet she still has been very gracious and generous on the room (she had a say in what type of room), comps and attentiveness. I'd like to bring her a "thank you" gift...not something to generate future comps, just something to say "I appreciate you."

I don't need any extras beyond the promo and am super low-maintenance. What is a respectable "thank you" gift from a low maintenance guest? I am leery on wine because it's so subjective, and some don't drink. (Plus a host probably gets MUCH better bottles from higher rollers than what I buy, even on a splurge!)

Is giving something like a decent-sized high-end box of hand-made chocolates (not made by me, but a local artisan like Moonstruck, etc., it'd be sealed of course), a small gift basket, etc. ok? Again, my goal is NOT to garner future comps, I just want her to know I appreciated her help.

From what I understand. Most hosts do not want any material gifts.

Either give cash if you really want to give something or write a very nice email to the hosts supervisor and cc them.

 

I like to give my host 10% of winnings.

The host is just doing his or her job to get commissions on your winnings. Most of the time, they can't even comp you more than what the computer will allow (especially with CET casinos). The best way to "thank" them for good service is to add a little more play into your budget.

 

I'm low maintenance and not a big player and I've never seriously considered giving a host a gift, and I tip a lot.

If I ever really needed a host to pull some strings and they came through, the only thing I'd think about would be a Visa gift card they could use anywhere. $50 or $100, not more than that.

 

Money Money Money!!! Monnnneey! Sang in high pitch at end..I know hosts who throw out "Thank You" flowers as soon as they arrive. If you have seen a lot of the hosts, well, they kinda look fit and bubacious (I made that word up)..and the last thing on their diet would be chocolates. I'm personally not a chocolate lover, so if given them I give them away. But..it's a great gesture on your part to thank your host. I give the cash money hug. I know another one from a host who likes EG: Starbucks gift cards,,as he can get his Starbucks paid at his own casino (includes guest) but enjoy the gift card when they go to other properties where they are allowed to gamble. (not a Starbucks lover, just used as an example).

They can buy any of that other stuff with cash. Put it in a nice thank-you card. If your host is ecologically sensitive/green etc re-use something like one of those convenience sacks from the airplane seat back pocket, or maybe some losing Keno tickets.

Holy crap! You are good! Most trips I am not a winner so currently "She" would not get anything. I try to at least tip $50 or $100 or more, even when I've had a losing trip. My January trip lost a shitload so didn't tip, as needed the left over dregs for the limo driver. But "She" knows I'll make it up next trip or trip after. Feb trip staying at a diff casino but I'll tip host as a "thanks getting to know you perk" But March trip,,,have all sortsa action with monster suite, Beiber tix for the girls, and now think my son is coming down for 4 nights so will need another suite plus MJ tix and Zumanity tix for them, and entry to Light...and entry to Dayclub at Mandalay Bay and on and on..and Limo pick up as they will be arriving a day after me...so I'll make a point of tipping right at the beginning of my trip while I still have money. And if she picks up all my food and beverage for 5 nights, including 2 suites and 6 of us...I'll be a happy girl, and so will she!

 

Smaller type players who have a responsive host should give $100.

I always got my host (a female) a $100 gift card for Nordstrom (reno casino, they have a Nordstrom in reno) for christmas.

 

When a host takes care of something for me, I generally give them a gift card. They can either use it, or they can re-gift it

 

A donation in your host's name to The Human Fund would certainly be a nice gesture.

My host is a scotch drinker so we take him a bottle but over NYE we also took him a T-shirt of our hockey team. He really likes the T-shirt and has told us it's his go to lounging around shirt. We have a pretty good relationship with him though so if you aren't that familiar with yours the gift card is a great idea.

 

I have given my host a gas gift card, because everyone needs GAS!

 

The last two trips i gave my host a giftcard i think he was happy with it......

 

Last time I gave a gift to a host, it was $100. She had responded to all my emails quick, and booked my room, and setup dinner reservations within a day of me saying when I'd be in town.

Current one I might hear something within 2 weeks. Not so good. Wish my old one would come back.

 

Always grab a Mirage envelope and put two crisp 100 dollar bills in it for my host.
