    My Trip Report

    Hi fellow VMB'ers!!

In 3 and a half hours I'll be on a plane to our beloved Mecca. This time my love of my life (my wife!!) will be joining me. I'm so happy and excited!

We will be staying Downtown at the Cal as usual. Plans? Well, we do plan to have dinner at Redwood Grill and rent a car. Other than that, we will just wing it!! My wife likes to play VP and slots and I will play 60% craps, 30% VP, 5% roulette, and 5% penny machines and old 3 reel slots.

I will not do a live trip report and I know most of you enjoy those. Sorry. I know I'm not the type to do that. But I will take pictures and post an old-fashioned type of report when I get back. About 11 out of the 22,00 or so members like these type of reports, lol!!

I hope I can post some good chip porn, report on handpays, and tell you all about my 5 hour monster roll that got me on the 6'oclock news.

    See you all next week!!

My phone battery never lasts long enough for me to do a live TR either. Tried it once, failed! I'll be doing the same as you. :) Have fun, looks like we'll be there the same time!

    Trips to Las Vegas:
    21
Greetings fellow VMB’ers! I’ve finally finished my trip report! We got back on 2/14/16 but dived right back into the daily grind. Work has been very hectic for me and my Wife and I apologize for taking a while to post a report. This time I went with my best friend and love of my life…my dear Wife! She’s not a Vegas addict like myself but she likes to go at least once a year. This is why when I get the urge to go to Vegas she lets me go solo to satisfy my gambling cravings. This is one of a million reasons why I love her . She doesn’t grumble nor whine about why I love to go so much, in fact she actually enjoys the stories I tell her about my gambling adventures (or pretends to at least, lol!!). She’s just wonderful.

We stayed at the California Hotel Downtown 2/9/16 to 2/13/16. On this trip we rented a car and visited off-strip properties, went shopping, and visited the Strip one night to watch Donnie and Marie at the Flamingo. We also visited the Bellagio, Balleys, and Paris.

I like to play craps, video poker, and slots in that order. I’m a red and green chip bettor in craps and like to play quarter and dollar VP. My Wife likes to play quarter VP and we both play slots together for the entertainment it provides.

We had a great time on this trip and I’d like to share it with you. I have pictures of food (some half eaten because we reminded ourselves to take a picture before we eat and forgot the moment the food came, lol!!) some slot pics of bonus wins, and a few pics of chip porn. About the chip porn. To some of you it would look like soft porn, mainly because there are no canaries, pumpkins, or chocolates to see. It’s more like playboy porn rather than the hardcore kind. But to me it was wonderful and memorable wins.

Tuesday, Feb. 9th finally arrived (yay!!). Our flight leaves at 9 am so we left the house at 6. My BIL and SIL were nice enough to give us a ride to the airport. I gave BIL and SIL some money so they can have breakfast after dropping us off. They didn’t want to take it but I told them I would’ve spent it on the taxi anyway and I’d rather they have it than the taxi company. Going through airport security was nuts. There was only one TSA agent checking boarding passes and I.D’s and it took forever. Our flight was pretty bumpy also. My Wife is prone to motion sickness so she wasn’t too happy but it eventually got smoother and the rest of the flight was fine.

We booked a Vacations Hawaii Charter (a Boyd owned company) that uses Omni International to fly us Hawaii degenerates to Vegas. The Charter flight includes baggage handling to Hotel, transportation via buses to and from airport to the Hotels, and meal coupon books for meals at the Boyd eateries (excluding some places like Redwood Grill, among others.) I like to use this charter when I go solo and for my Wife it was her first time trying it. When we go to Vegas we usually book regular domestic airlines like Hawaiian Airlines because my Wife likes the flexibility of scheduling. With Vacations Hawaii the schedules are pretty inflexible. Just so happens on this charter we leave Vegas at 9am which means our baggage gets pulled from our rooms at 4:30 am and we need to be at the staging area at 5:30 am. My Wife is not really a morning person so she decided that this is the last Vacation Hawaii Charter trip for her. I understand where she’s coming from but I’ll still use Vacations Hawaii when I go solo. Mainly because I get lower fares from comp. vouchers that take $200 off the flight price plus I get free rooms at the Cal so I fly the “casino air” option, which is cheaper.

We landed at 5:30 pm and were in our rooms by 6:30 or so. After checking out to make sure the room is o.k. we headed down to 777 Brewpub at MSS for dinner. I had a T-Bone steak and my Wife had a cheeseburger with fries combo. Here’s a pic of my food: (It was GREAT, btw!)

    IMG_0009.jpg

My Wife and I played some slots together at MSS and the Cal but there were no significant wins to report about. At around 10 pm or so she was tired and decided to go up and call it a night. I escorted her up to the room and then headed down to the casino to play craps. The table was choppy and it slowly ground down my buy-in. So I quit and sat down to play VP. I did manage to get this while waiting for the craps table to heat up:

    IMG_0011.jpg

I played VP till about 2am and got a bit tired so I also went up to the room. But the first night in Vegas is hard to sleep so I was up again by 5am and went down to the casino. The craps table was empty so I played VP again until the table had some players. A couple of hands in I hit this:

Today my Wife and I took our rental and drove over to Sunset Station. We had their breakfast buffet and it was pretty good. You can’t really screw up breakfast and Sunset Station didn’t disappoint. We played some VP and slots then we drove across the street to the Galleria Mall to do some shopping.

We then drove over to South Point. We enjoy visiting this property and like to play their slot machines because we always seem to win here. No big hand pays mind you, just frequent wins here and there from $75.00 to $200.00. We played Cleopatra, Quick Hits, Texas Tea, and Brittney Spears; among others. Almost all of these wins were with an investment of a twenty. On many machines we hit the bonuses within 2 to 3 spins. We had a lot of fun at South Point! Here are some pics of the wins:

    IMG_0021.jpg

We eventually headed back to our home casino the Cal. Dinner was at the Cal’s Market St. Café. I had the Prime Rib special. It was my best one yet. I always eat this at least once on every trip and I’ve been lamenting on previous reports as to how it can be mediocre at times and somewhat o.k on others. But this time it was great! I ate it all and forgot to take a picture. Sorry! My Wife ate her favorite breakfast item: Phillipine Breakfast. Yes, you can order breakfast anytime at Market Street.

We played slots and VP together for the rest of the night, moving back and forth between the Cal and MSS. Eventually my Wife decided to call it a night so we went up together to our room. It was a little after midnight and after I tucked her in I told her I’m going to play craps. In her soft sweet voice she said Good Luck and try not to stay up all night. God I love her!

I jumped on this table that looked like it was heating up. There was this elderly Japanese lady that was betting lots of green chips. Her betting style was wild and reckless. Aside from place bets she would bet the one roll prop bets on every throw of the dice and would lose, lose, lose! Then she would ask for another 1K marker and do it all over again. She was really fun to play with! When it’s her turn to shoot she would throw the dice overhand and yell “BANZAI!!!” It seems 3 out of every 5 rolls would careen off the rails and on to the floor! The boxman finally mentioned to her jokingly “Hey Banzai, can you please keep the dice on the table willya?” amid howls of laughter from everyone at the table, including the lady. Every once in a while she would sing softly “I’ve got no Honey I only have Money….” Then laugh gleefully. If I wasn’t happily married I would love to be her Honey, lol!! We found out that she is 83 years young. And that she visits Vegas and stays at the Cal every other month, year in, year out! Her friend came over to the table and mentioned that they go and have a bite to eat. We told her to eat later and continue to play with us! But she told us she’ll return. I had a really great session. I was placing the 6 and 8 for $30.00 each with 2 come bets and passline with odds. It seemed to work out well and after stubbornly hanging on to the table as it was getting ice cold I finally colored out with this after an initial buy-in of $300.00 (after tipping the dealers 3 greens, a couple of reds and whites):

    IMG_0024.jpg

I later texed my Wife this same picture and she texted: YAY!!

I figured don’t press my luck anymore so I went upstairs and went to bed.

    Thursday, 2/11/16
Got up around around 5am or so and went down to MSS to play some VP. Some techs were erecting a new Brittney Spears slot right next to the escalator leading down to the casino. Had to take a pic of this:

    IMG_0027.jpg

Next thing you know I hit this on my machine:

    IMG_4559.jpg

Alright!! I cashed out and went to get coffee for my Wife as I knew she was up and getting ready for the day. We hopped in the car and went to the Suncoast. I posted a thread earlier asking about the Wax bus and how to use it to go to the Suncoast. A lot of you VMB’ers responded with helpful tips and I really appreciated that. Since we had a car we drove out there. From Downtown I got on Alta Drive and stayed on it all the way to Suncoast. Easy Peasy! I’ll save the Wax bus ride for when I go solo in the future. Thanks again for all the tips, folks!

We played some slots at Suncoast and also some VP hybrid games that makes you spin a wheel if you get a 4oak. It took me a while to realize it’s a pretty rip off machine, lol! Here’s a pic of it:

    IMG_0029.jpg

We had lunch here at their buffet. $6.99 with players card. It was a pretty good buffet. There were lots of variety so I took small portions and tried all kinds of stuff. I loved their pizza! We played a bit more then headed back home to the Cal. We are planning to see Donnie and Marie tonight. I wanted to drink so we planned to take the Sam’s Town shuttle from the Cal to Sam’s and then transfer to the shuttle that goes to the Strip (Harrahs). Then after the show we’ll take a taxi back home.

We didn’t get tickets in advance so we weren’t sure if there were any available on short notice. But when we inquired at the box office they had a few general seating left so we went for it. $268.00 for two including fees and taxes. By the way, one of the things I don’t like about the Flamingo is there are many timeshare salespeople all over the place. Stay in the casino. They are forbidden to be in there.

The show is great! I never realized how talented a singer Marie is! She also did an opera number. I couldn’t believe that she had such a wide vocal range. Donnie is cool and as smooth as ever. They both did individual performances which were awesome but the best of the show is when they performed together. Their brother-sister banter was so funny. You can tell they were competitors from youngsters all the way up to now. You can’t help but admire and respect all 50 plus years that both have been performing. They both look great despite their age, and they move and dance like they are still in their 20’s.

While the show is going on you can order drinks (not free). I got myself a screwdriver and my Wife ordered a cranberry vodka. I swear my drink was 70% alcohol and 30% o.j. My Wife’s drink was the same! I drank mine pretty fast and drank my Wife’s drink since she said it was too strong. When the show finished, I was plastered, lol! I’m a lightweight compared to my younger years, and the drinks hit me hard. I know. Pretty sad. Two drinks and I’m drunk. Heh Heh! I was slurring but all smiles! My Wife thought it was funny! We walked over to the Bellagio and visited the Conservatory then went outside and watched a fountain show. I took some pics of the Strip:

    IMG_0031.jpg
    IMG_0032.jpg
    IMG_0033.jpg

We then walked over to Ballys and then over to Paris. We played some slots then decided we wanted to go back home. We took a cab from Paris. The cabbie actually asked which route I’d like to take and I told him the fastest way back. He took the freeway and the fare came out to $22.00 so I gave him $28.00. My poor Wife later told me that the cabbies body odor was very strong (she was sitting behind him). I guess he’s been working the long hours and didn’t have time to go home and shower.

We didn’t have dinner and it was now past midnight. We walked over to the Golden Nugget because I suggested we eat at Claimjumper. I’ve never been there but looked up their menu online and discovered that it had a lot of different food offerings. I was very disappointed to learn that in the wee hours they only have a limited menu. It was a very forgettable meal because I remember having a forgettable steak and my Wife and I can’t even remember what she ate, lol!!

We walked back to the Cal, played a few slots, then went to bed.

    Friday, 2/12/16
I woke up this morning and had a very disappointing craps session at MSS. Both in the monetary sense and social experience but it was the social aspect that was more bothersome. There is this lady dealer that I’ve played with before on numerous occasions and she always was friendly and cordial during play. On this session I wasn’t focusing well (because of the two drinks last night?) but I made a come bet and my bet went to the ten and I forgot to put odds. In fact I forgot I placed the come bet. Well anyway it won and she put the even money winnings back in the come box. I asked what was that for and she said your come bet in a quite irritating tone and then she went on a rant about me not putting the odds out for it and that’s why it only won even money. I sarcastically apologized for not focusing well and assured her that it won’t happen again. Sheeesh. What happened to the dealers looking out for you and reminding you if you forgot to place odds? I was pissed. Not of the bet but of her sad ass attitude. When the shooter 7nd out I grabbed my chips and left. Didn’t even color up. And no tip.

Today we got in our car and drove over to the Orleans. My other favorite Boyd property! I played a craps session there but the table was cold as ice. We walked around and played slots and VP here and there. I swiped my card just to see where I stand with my points and it said voucher printing go pick up your Valentine box of chocolates. O.k. So I did. I didn’t know it at the time but earn some points and you get a box of chocolates. My Wife and I played the Brittney Spears slot. Lots of fun and we got lucky and the bonuses came pretty fast on just a twenty. I was so happy with Brittney’s generosity that I took a picture of her and the box of chocolates. My Wife faked not being too happy because I wanted to give the chocolates to Brittney:

    IMG_0034.jpg

We had lunch at Koji’s. We always ate here when visiting or staying at the Orleans. It is planned to close down on 2/14/16 but we learned from the waitress that the new restaurant opening next to the café is the same owner and will retain a lot of the menu items that were on Koji. We ordered some sushi rolls and some nigiri sushi then forgot to take pics of them before we chowed down. So we took pics of the half eaten sushi and as expected, it looks frickin gross. Here are the gross pics for your viewing pleasure. Please note the half eaten cucumber wedge that I bit into then put back on the plate to make it look more presentable::evillaugh

    IMG_0036.jpg
    IMG_0037.jpg

After the Orleans we stopped by Trader Joe’s on Decatur to pick up some things for home. They have some great stuff that are favorites back home since there is no Trader Joe’s in Hawaii. Then it was back to our Downtown home to return the rental and play VP at MSS. I got a 4 to a royal (all spades) and of course, after holding all 4, got this:

    IMG_0039.jpg
    IMG_0040.jpg

There is this Hot Hot Penny machine over by the craps tables that became my atm machine on two occasions. Both times I hit for over $186 and $322 on a twenty. Really fun bonuses and both bonuses on those two occasions came within the 2nd or 3rd spin. Awesome!!

    IMG_0041.jpg
    IMG_0042.jpg

I think I played a craps session at the Cal that didn’t do too well, so I gave up and called it a night. I was pretty tired. When my Wife decided to retire for the night I joined her and tucked both of us in for the night instead of heading back down!

    Last day Saturday 2/13/16

Awww Shit. The last day in Vegas. I don’t know why but the last day in Vegas always comes too soon, whether it be a 5 day trip or a million years trip, it just comes too fast, dammit.

My Wife slept in while I went down and searched for a good craps game. I bought in at a Cal craps table that looked promising. There were about 4 people at the table. Things were choppy for a while, the usual back and forth, up and down results of the average craps game. I did manage to parlay a 5 dollar hard 4 for a nice 320 dollar win. That was fun! There were some pretty good rolls that occurred; I managed to roll for 10 minutes or so and therefore my morning session ended on the up note from a $200 dollar buy in:

    IMG_0043.jpg

I checked on my Wife and she was already up and was ready for the day. I suggested we cruise the Fremont area. She was game so we casino hopped all over the place. While walking under the Canopy I observed that the buskers, performers, and beggars were a little more controlled now that they have to register to occupy those circles under the Canopy. It seemed the pleasure of just strolling around without being bothered has returned!! We approached a beggar with a cardboard sign saying why lie, I want some weed, and he was just 20 ft. away from these people trying to promote this commercial weed product. They kept sticking those weed packets in front of me and my Wife. I laughed and told her how ironic the scene was; people hawking commercial weed 20 ft. away from someone asking for money to buy weed. They should just give the samples to that guy, lol!

There was this pregnant (she looked like 7 to 8 months) woman holding a cardboard sign saying she’s pregnant (you don’t say…really?) The sign had a life long story of how sad her life is and how she’s homeless, blah blah blah. If I’m not mistaken there are agencies that will take in expectant mothers that are down on their luck and will assure them safety, medical care, food, and shelter. All you have to do is contact them. There is absolutely no need to be begging on Fremont St. and in my opinion this woman is not telling us all there is to her story.

We visited the Container Park and on this day it was very lively and festive. They had some kind of Chinese New Year festivities going on and there were many families with children playing in the park. It was an interesting place to visit but unless you want to frequent the few eateries and bars there, I can’t see anything that would bring you back. To me anyway.

My Wife and I had a blast playing the Bejeweled 3-D slot at the El Cortez. I forgot to take pictures but I got on the bonus round and it was a hellava fun experience. The bonus items seem to shoot straight out at you and the chair rocks and rolls throughout the bonus. Really fun game!! We also played electronic Roulette that was fun but we only broke even after a while and didn’t want to press our luck. We walked over to the Downtown Grand and was instantly underwhelmed by the casino. I was thinking they should just brighten up the place; instead of it’s dark, gloomy outlook they can make it look like the MSS casino which is bright and cheerful. The Downtown Grand’s casino is small so a makeover similar to the MSS would work in my opinion.
We continued our trek along Fremont Experience, ducking in and out of Fremont, Binions, 4 Queens, and Golden Nugget. We skipped the D and Golden Gate and ended up at the Plaza. We played a few slots then bought some beef jerky snacks at the Jerky store there. I guess the staying up till late every night of this trip eventually got to me. I was feeling tired so we went back to our room and took a nap. It was a good idea to do this because it’s sort of a tradition for me to stay up all night on the last day of a Vegas trip.

We had 5:30 reservations at Redwood Grill at the Cal. My Wife and I enjoy eating here and it’s been over a year since we’ve been here. Mainly because on my solo trips I just eat frugally whereas when with my Wife we like to eat at nice places. We were seated promptly at 5:30 and I can see why reservations are essential. The place filled up fast with customers, no doubt every table was reserved. Our waiter’s name was Jesus. Nice, handsome fellow. Seemed courteous and attentive however we were a bit disappointed because the other waiters were telling their customers about the specials of the day while all Jesus said was if we were ready to order. I decided upon having the petite filet with lobster tail and my Wife settled for a salmon dish. My Wife’s dish was very good but mine, not so much. I ordered the steak medium rare and it came medium, very close to well done. Had no flavor at all. We also ordered fresh oysters on the half shell and my Wife said it was tasteless. I had to agree. Although the oysters were very cold and fresh I must say the oysters we’ve had at the MSS Seafood buffet last night were a whole lot better, lol! Getting back to the steak. If my steak was too rare I wouldn’t hesitate to ask them to cook it a little bit more but when the steak is overdone I just feel it’s a waste to have them cook another for me. It’s just the way I am and I was disappointed but I figured I’m not gonna die and it’s not like I’m at Gordon Ramsey or other high end places like that. I hope it wasn’t Jesus who mistook medium rare for medium. Another disappointment was when Jesus brought our dinners. It took me a few moments to realize that I had no steak sauce. I tried and eventually got his attention and it seemed he realized why I was flagging him because he asked if I wanted steak sauce. I’m glad the sauce eventually came because like I mentioned earlier the steak had no flavor at all. So I drowned it in A-1. Here’s a pic of our dinners:

    IMG_0046.jpg
    IMG_0047.jpg

And we had a bananas foster cheesecake that we shared for dessert. Again we ate some before taking a picture of it. Delicious!

    IMG_0048.jpg

I still enjoy eating at Redwood Grill and hope my next visit is not as disappointing.

After dinner we played over at MSS. My Wife played at her favorite Treasure Chest VP machine and I played this triple play VP machine and got this 4 to a Royal. I held all 4 then did a drum roll in my head and got this (of course, sigh):

    IMG_0049.jpg
    IMG_0050.jpg

Then I got this which was pretty fun:

    IMG_0051.jpg

My poor Wife was having no luck at all at the machines and she was a bit disappointed, being it was our last night in Vegas. We played a $5.00 machine together, alternately pressing the button to see if we could get lucky. The machine broke. The reels were spinning slowly, round and round, and the reader said malfunction, notify attendant. So we did and the attendant couldn’t figure out what was wrong so he called the technician. The tech came and he banged the top of the machine with his fist and it started working again, lol! We all had a good laugh about it and so my Wife and I thought that we were gonna hit it big now that it’s back in commission. Yeah, right. Nothing. Oh well, we played a few other machines together and it was time for my Wife to call it quits. She retired to the room and when I tucked her in she again said Good Luck, try not to lose all your money and to have fun. I know I’ve said it and I’ll say it again. God I love her.

I don’t know why but on almost every trip I’ve taken to Vegas I’ve always done very well at the craps table on the last night. It seems like a broken record: lose, lose, lose, win, lose, lose, win, lose then epic win on the last night. But it was never enough to come out ahead. Rinse and repeat. The weekend was here so the Cal and MSS were swamped with gamblers. I was afraid I wasn’t going to get on a craps table. Eventually one table at MSS that was once hot began to get cold and all the players left except 2 die-hards. Should I get on this table? Should I wait a while? I decided to only buy in for $200 and just play conservatively. Well, I managed to roll for a good 20 minutes or so and got up pretty nicely by betting passline with odds and 30 dollar place bets on the 6 and 8. I eventually covered all the numbers with the winnings and started pressing. I played 5 dollar hardways but couldn’t win any of them. My rack was pretty decent after I eventually 7nd out. Then this other gentleman on the other end of the table placed a 5 dollar chip on the passline and started rolling. No odds. No place bets. Nothing. Only that red chip on the passline. He always sets the dice and handles it the same way and throws it the same way. Everytime. He rolled for a very long time, and a whole string of 6’s and 8’s came along. My 30 dollar place bets on those numbers grew to 60, 90, then 120 before he 7nd out. He made 3 or four points along the way to his 7-out. And all he won was even money on his passline bets. I observed the box watching intently but not saying a word. He was hardly kissing the back wall. I wondered if he had put a whole bunch of bets out would the box intervene? I also wondered why he only bet the passline. Maybe he was banned before in the past? He was obviously a dice setter and a very good one at that.

I started to get a wee bit too aggressive in my betting and it began to cost me as the dice made it’s rounds around the table. By now the table had a bit more players but no one could get a decent roll going. My turn came and I made a Hail Mary move. Point was 6 and I placed 30 dollars on the 8, 5, and 9 and bought the 4 and 10 for 25 dollars each. I had a 25 dollar passline with 100 dollars in odds. I rolled 3 or 4 times then 7nd out. I looked at the time and it was 4am. Time to leave. I colored up and gave the dealers 2 green chips and ended up with this:

    Not bad for a $200 buy-in.

Baggage pull was at 4:30 for those of us on the Charter and the busses leave at 6:15 for the airport. I went up to the room and my Wife was up and ready. We went down to the Market St. Café and had breakfast then proceeded to the staging area. My Wife was ready to go home but for me, it seems that my home is in Vegas. I don’t ever recall wanting to go home on the last day. Maybe when I have a trip where I lose my ass I’ll feel differently. According to my calculations, I came home with most of my bankroll intact, with a loss of 700 or so dollars. Big difference from the midpoint of our trip where I believe I was down a little over 3 grand. There were some craps sessions that I didn’t post about but these were grind sessions and uninteresting yet they were sessions where I realized some small profits. And there were the slot machine wins that were very numerous although small. I had many, many wins in the 100 to 200 dollar level. I must admit that although there were no handpays I did manage to get on the bonus rounds with very few spins. I was very lucky in that category for this trip!

I realized how wonderful it is to go to Vegas with someone you love. Unfortunately my Wife is not into Vegas as much as I am and she doesn’t care to go as often. But she always lets me go whenever I feel the urge and finances and work allows me to do so. I love solo trips but I absolutely would go with my Wife over a solo trip anytime. She’s a great Vegas companion and the love of my life! We are planning a December trip and it will be longer than 5 nights.

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you enjoyed the report and can relate to the fun we had in Vegas. Good Luck and Best Wishes to all of you on your next wonderful and prosperous trip!

Great report and thanks for a complete, one post TR. I'm not a live TR fan.

I'm not that fussy, but if I had to put A1 on a piece of meat to give it taste, back it goes.

Like you, my wife is my favorite travel companion and she loves Vegas, so I have only had one solo trip, ever!

We have Redwood reservations Sat & Mon and I usually request Janelle or Hilario as a server. We have always enjoyed their service.

It is so nice to read a report with a couple enjoying Vegas together and your wife is wonderful to make a point of traveling with you to Vegas even if she isn't "as into it" as you. My Vegas trips with my husband are always my favourites. I go several times a year without him; he is still working and I'm retired.

You really got around a lot and sounds like a wonderful trip. That early morning departure is rough!

Thanks for sharing your Vegas adventures with us. It helps when my cointdown is still so far off.
