As the title says, I'm staying at The D for the first time next month, and I'd love to have some pointers to get the most out of my stay. Whether I should request any particular direction of room for a view, or what's good there for food, if the player's club is worth joining, etc. - any insight would be much appreciated!

Defiantly sign up for the players club. The D is pretty good on offers, even for low rollers.
And, higher rooms will get you away from the Freemont music if you go to bed before midnight.
If you're going to charge your meals to your room, you can also charge your meals at Golden Gate to it as well.
Call them up before you check out to see if a host can comp anything off for you. Or, just swing by their office. It's to the left of the check
The long bar is a nice place to hang out, and get drinks.
See if you can get a corner suite with the $20 trick. I haven't stayed in one yet, but they're a bit nicer than their normal ones from what I've seen.
Everything is close by, so don't limit yourself just to The D. You can hit most of the casinos within about 15 min. :)
They have McD's and Cony Island for that 3am snack attack.
And, of course, the rest rooms are up the escalators to the right. ;)
Enjoy your stay. I really like staying there, and they've treated me right so far.

I've not stayed there yet, but have eaten at Andiamo several times, and it's excellent.

When taking the elevator from your room, get off on the second floor. You will get off at the upstairs casino and restaurant.

I have stayed here several times, very fun place to be. Skip the pool, it is about the size of a home pool and in a weird location to boot. Food choices are limited like most places downtown, but the 4 places they have all have their perks. Andiamos is their fine dining place and probably one of the best places downtown to eat (expect to spend 75$ per person for a full course) the d grill is the café type place, has good solid food at a moderate price (20$ max per person) and of course coney island which is good for that late night craving of heartburn (10$ max for a full combo) and then they have McDonalds which is even cheaper.

The gambling is good here, good table rules on BJ and a few good VP paytables are still around, though on my last trip the bartops seems kind of weak. Slots are slots, they don't have much in terms of higher limits which is what I usually play. They do have 2 of the 5$ WoF machines near check-in along with some 1/2/5/25 and 5/10/25/100 top dollar machines.

For the hotel side of things, the higher up the quieter it will be and the view will be better of the mountains or the strip in the distance. The regular rooms are cozy and clean, not much to them but good if you just need a clean place to sleep and shower, the corner king is slightly larger with a mini fridge but not much else. The suite is where its at if you can get one at a decent price, two rooms, massive bathroom/shower, bar top and fridges for entertaining/party, nice sized living room with 3 tvs.

Not a big fan of their entertainment options, but I don't much care for many shows in vegas anyways.

Stop by upstairs with some quarters to spend on the sigma derby, good social game. Also, this casino is more toward the party side, so music gets loud but I haven't had to many problems with people getting overboard.

There are also bathroom downstairs....straight across from valet in the back. I have found drink service to be good, tho I usually hit McD's for a senior coffee first thing in the morning. They still have alot of slot attendants wandering about, so I always feel safe, and have had good service with machine issues, hand pays, etc.
The ice buckets are small, so if you are wanting more room to cool drinks you may want to buy/purchase a cooler. There are ice machines on every floor.
The Grille (coffee shop) does not open til 8, and the service can be very slow. You can use any comp points on your card toward your bill, and usually there is a $5 coupon in the check in pack.
They do give cash back for play....I always check at the player's desk when checking out.

They serve good Bloody Mary's... but I highly suggest walking down the street to La Bayou, getting a bit pinned and playing some Unicorn slots!

Good thread as they've been on my radar since last trip, plus they're the only Downtown spot that gives me any kind of offer (BOGO nights, little FP and match, food coupon on minimal play). Next trip I'm thinking of giving them some of the play I give the bigger boys and see how it plays out, since I'll likely stay Downtown a couple nights the following trip. That D Suite is nice!

I like The D rooms. Basic but clean and updated.

The first time we stayed, we spent some time looking for the safe. It's there, but not in the most obvious place.

We had breakfast at The Grill when we were there in January and noticed the prices have gone up and the menu options have been reduced. As kkinwi mentioned, service is often slow and we were surprised how few customers were there. The quality of food was average but if price is a factor, there's plenty of cheaper restaurants downtown.

Spring for the suite if you are able, the regular rooms are fine. They are clean and have great beds, but are on the smaller side. The suite is very roomy and can be had for 100 bucks a night sun-thur alot of the time.

I've gotten a good deal through Expedia on the Premium Corner King, which is prepaid.

It'll feel like a free room when I get there, so might just spring for the upgrade if it's not too much a night :)

If you play slots in the upstairs section the cw is basically stuck up there with you so there is a good potential for faster cw service. tip accordingly.

The gyros at the hot dog place are very tasty and filling when drunk.

You have to select your floor number first before getting on the elevators, then take the one it tells you to take. Dont just hop on the next one when the door opens because there are no floor buttons inside and you could be in for a long ride.

    Good stuff, thanks.

I'll have to make sure I remember the last one, as I'll likely forget several times :drunk:

They had just gotten it my last trip. It's good stuff, and can get you trouble. Can't even taste the booze in it. I can't remember if they had it on tap yet or not. Hope you can get it at the tables.

And, there's 2 exits to Fremont street. The one by the long bar is right beside their stage, and 4Q. The other one is by Cony Island, right across from the souvenir shop. Nice to know where to enter to get away from the beggers if needed.
And, yeah the steak/Italian place is great. Always have had good service, and food there. Last time it took them a while to get me a seat, so they comped my bar drinks.

And, MrBBonz I think nailed it on the rooms. I've only seen pics of the corner suite, and the big one, but they look nice. And, yeah, the VP has gone down a bit at the Longbar, so you're better off playing at a stand alone machine if you're just looking for the odds.

Yeah, I went there right after they opened for the day, and it was pretty slow. Like I said before, you can charge your meal to your room over at DuPairs at Golden Gate. And, I think the food there is better
