Restaurants Changes coming to Boyd Gaming

Boyd will be adding 20 restaurants nationally. For Orleans, they will be getting Alder & Birch Cocktails and Fine Dining, Ondori Asian Kitchen and three more restaurants. Suncoast is getting a Dupars and Gold Coast will eventually get two more restaurants. The goal is to improve non gaming revenue. Can't tell what's targeted to close for some of these additions.

 

They should get rid of that Noodle house at the Cal. Hawaii people don't like it because many consider the prices to be high for what they get. Unfortunately Boyd just opened that place so they want to see how the place does but from what I see I don't see the place being very busy. Guess this place was an entrance to the new "fusion" style cuisine but most of us Hawaiians aren't into that type of cuisine. I can see this place closing in a year or two.

How about they opening an In n out in the Cal (or someplace downtown). I bet the place would be very busy compared to what we see in that noodle house.

 

Orleans needed new/better dining options.

 

At the Orleans, someone informed us that Koji's was tasty though slightly pricey (we confirm). So, we tried it and found ourselves going there a number of times, very tasty food (we don't eat sushi).

Koji's is a hybrid - they serve both sushi and chinese food.. go figure the combination... For setup, they have a long sushi bar and dining tables.

I agree Makiki. I'd rather have a In n Out than the Cal Noodle House. I hope the Cal realizes that it's not gonna make it and bring something else in.

The last two times I was at the Cal the Noodle House was dead. Maybe one or two tables with people. That's it. I checked their menu. Nothing appealed to me. But to be fair I should give them a chance. My wife and I are headed to Vegas in 7 days. Staying at the Cal. We plan to eat there even though the prices are ridiculous.

 

Boyd to improve food options everywhere

I can only hope they reopen the Pullman at MSS. A concession in the last contract from the Union was that IF they reopened the restaurant, it could be with non-union workers.

Was it outside the train car or on it?

 

The train car was the the after dinner smoking and cocktail car. They never served food in there as far as I know. But what a great place for an ice cream after dinner drink, or a Zambucca, even with the cigar smokers.

 

Sam's Town breakfast buffet has the best french toast on the planet.

I am not exaggerating.

 

as long as they don't mess with Cal Prime Rib special. They need to clone Manny the omelet guy and put one in each hotel

 

If you're referring to MSS, the omelet guy is Manny.

If Orleans is getting a five restaurants total, Koji's is probably gone. Unless they are converting space from other uses, they would probably change almost every space to something new. For the time table, the two new ones will replace Canal Street and the Mexican restaurant. With luck TGIF may get swapped out, preferably with a unique, non-chain concept. The info is so vague that I wonder if some of these changes could affect the buffets, too.

 

DuPars opening in SunCoast is an interesting move.

 

Good luck big guy. But be forewarned, some of my friends that ate there were unimpressed with the food and they won't be back to eat there again. Some of them didn't think it was worth the higher price, others just didn't like the food there at all. We'll wait for your review to also see how it turned out for you.

 

Actually the Pullman is a nice looking restaurant. Inside it reminds you of the old days rail cars but with a nice bar also. I don't remember them opening up the rail car outside but by the time I was into vegas the Pullman already was closing down. The place is still available for dinners or banquets (for a fee) and the vacations Hawaii charters sometimes wait in the Pullman while waiting for the charter buses to leave vegas.

It will be interesting to see what happens at the Gold Coast as you have to figure Ping Pang Pong is staying which means the Noodle place across the casino may go. I have always been a big advocate of the Cortez Room, but now have had two bad experiences in a row (send a steak back twice last time I was there) so maybe that space could be better used.

I agree on TGIF as why would anyone go to a chain restaurant when visiting LV?
