Skylofts at MGM grand

Why are the rates for the skylofts so expensive? are they that much better than all of the other vegas properties?

my wife wants to stay in the skylofts for 2 nights during our next trip to try it and see if its worth it (she likes the concept of a 2 story hotel room) I was wondering if anyone here has stayed in a skyloft room before and if they felt that it was a good value for the high price paid? is it that much of an upgrade over all of the other MGM locations?

We havn't booked yet because its so damn expensive it would eat into our budget for doing other stuff and not sure if its worth it for the "experience"

I have stayed there many times and its probably my favorite room in Vegas. I like the skysuites at aria and the penthouse suites at Bellagio as well, but the Skylofts blow them away. Unique room and service that includes an incredible attention to detail.

I really dislike questions asking if it is "worth" it, because that is subjective. What something is worth to one person is valued differently by someone else. IMO, the Skylofts are tremendous and I would be happy to try and answer any specific questions that may help you make up your mind

 

For starters, you get round trip transportation to and from the hotel in a car that's likely worth more than most people's houses. Not to mention the 24 hour butler service, free porn, er pay-per-view movies, coffee, beverages..... It's an awesome experience, and I'd gladly do it again in the future.

 

Stayed in a 2 bedroom one a few weeks ago, loft #23. It is an awesome place to stay and service is great. I did notice alot of wasted space where they couldve designed things a little better. For example, too many seating areas where they could have put a wet bar. but It really is worth staying there and you will not be disappointed.

Something to keep in mind, you can order room service from ANY restaurant at MGM, even the mansion. One night for dinner a bunch of us were supposed to go to the mansion for dinner but we just ended up ordering room service from the mansion and about 4 more restaurants.

If your wife likes the 2 story room, maybe do the terrace suite? Its also 2 levels, has a big patio and cheaper if you dont think you will be using the extra amenities but its a smaller suite.

 

I love the two bedroom Skylofts. And it is more than just about the room - it is the overall service and experience that sets them apart.

Most of us on the board who have stayed in them have probably had them comped, so hard to answer the "value" question.

Couple additional points: you can get room service form any MGM restaurant except Robuchon. Also, I agree about the terrace suite. Its very cool also and less expensive. But it doesn't come with the same level of service. And the bedroom (second level) gets blazing hot during summer months. It just cannot stay cool.

Bronco, you mean you don't prefer the weird, zebra-striped in room statuary over a wet bar??? Come on man!

 

Lol! Funny you mention temperature in the rooms. For the life of me, I couldn't get the right temperature in the bedroom or downstairs area in the lofts. It would either be too hot or too cold. You just reminded me about that.

 

The Terrace Suite is amazing; I haven't stayed in it, but have visited, and it's a beautiful space.

Also, at the risk of sticking my nose into people's business, as far into the question of whether or not $X is "worth it" for a suite, I'm not sure I would necessarily spring for the extra money just for the "concept" of a bigger room. If she'll use the room, the space, and the amenities, then great. If you're doing it to say that you did, then that's a different story. Remember that many of the people on this board staying in those rooms aren't paying for them out-of-pocket.

That's my experience in every hotel room I've ever stayed in, and also our condo, and also outdoors. My Aria room always fluctuates between freezing and a sauna.

 

I never had that trouble in a skyloft. But the terrace suite, the combination of an open air second floor and giant terrace door and glass means the climate control just doesn't work for the second level. I slept on top of the sheets the one time I stayed there in the summer

 

You had a thin skinned scorpion that kept playing with the HVAC settings.

I just chalked it up to having too many control settings in certain sections of the loft if each section was set at a different temperature.

The main reason we were looking at the skylofts is because they are 2 story and my wife has an obsession with multi-level places. Are there any other good multi-level suites in town? until today I had always thought that the skylofts were the only multi-level unit you could get

 

It's a great place if you are going to entertain guests, especially the two bedroom with plunge pool (just a jacuzzi). Also the butlers in the Skyloft keep a file on your preferences so that the next trip, they will customize it to your preferences

Btw, don't ever sit on the leather ottoman in loft 91. They should have burned it after all the things I've seen done on it...

As for other multi level suites, the Wynn has the two story apartments but I believe it will cost quite a bit more.

Palms and Aria both have "sky villas" that are more than one story. I think the Cosmo bungalows are as well.

 

There are certain things that are better left to the imagination...and then there are others that are better left unseen...

 

Was supposed to have a regular 2 br apartment this trip at encore but got bumped out about 2 months ago
