Yeah from Derek's interview at VIMFP in October - it didn't sound like anything was close at all. It sounds like the old tower will probably come down and he will build the newer tower higher. I bet we are at least 2 years out on any chance of it opening.

Only managers as brain-dead as the guys at Tamares could conceive of replacing a hotel/casino with a huge drug store. I think that Derek's purchase of LVC has much less to do with preventing the chance of increasing intoxication downtown, and much more to do with preventing the lowering of Fremont Street's appeal by removing a traditional gambling destination and replacing it with a boring drug store which would have horribly clashed with the ambiance of every other place on Fremont. This feels like it was a move to prevent Tamares from ruining a corner of the FSE, just as they destroyed the LVC.

There is already a "drug store" down the street in an overpriced Walgreens. Also, each gift shop already sells booze, as does the ABC store and a few other spots on fremont. Maybe Im missing something but I dont see the appeal of another shop.

The "appeal" is that tamares would have gotten additional income from the rent from the drug store. The lvc wasn't bringing in money, the hotel side wasn't open so their primary source of income was from gambling and the bars. They did open up a small "store" in the front (selling t shirts and knick knacks) to get more income but guess they wanted a drug store so they could charge a lot more for rent.

I'm glad that Stevens bought the lvc because tamares wasn't doing anything to help the lvc thrive as a hotel/casino.

It's amazing how far the LVC fell. It was a great place when Mel Exber and Jackie Gaughan ran it. The sports memorabilia was cool, the rooms were decent and cheap, the Great Moments restaurant was up there with Hugo's Cellar for find dining downtown.

I don't think it was going to REPLACE the hotel/casino. Just take up a big chunk of the casino space. But I could be wrong.

Moot now. It does underline though that the LVC was essentially bought 'without a plan', so I would not expect a particular rush to finish whatever they build.

They do have some plan. Derek had plans to buy LVC a couple years ago and did due diligence at that time , so he has plans, but the place is really bad. I spent some time "looting" the place during VIMFP. It's a mess. The idea Derek had was to demolish the old tower and podium, then add to the newer tower which was designed for about twice the floors and build a new podium and casino with a great sports book and pool. He said he wanted all three properties, LVC, GG and the D to have a shared players club card.

And, you can charge your food to the other hotel. At least my host said I could charge DuPars meal to my D room. So, that's a plus side. But, they still have to look at both accounts for comps. But, I think their mailers don't do that yet. I've gotten the same thing even with me upping my play the last few times.
