would you play the games you play if money wasn't involved?

Everyone knows that the point of the gambling games is to play for money, but there are non-money versions of almost all the games we play.

Do you ever play online with play money, if so how often do you play?

Do you feel like the game is just no fun unless there are real stakes involved?

I think skill games like poker and such would be ok, but with all casino games the gambling aspect puts 75% percent of the fun into it. (for me at least). I still play craps on my phone for no real money though, so there's that.

Nope. Same reason I don't watch pre-season or All Star games since nothing is at stake.

I've tried playing Craps/VIdeo Poker for play money on my tablet/phone etc in between trips and I just can't. I get bored so fast. Its kind of like Monte Carlo nights for charities which I attend a lot. I find myself just going all-in on some roulette number or something because there's no real interest for me in it.

The only exception is learning a new game. When I was learning to play VP I would play for play money because I was learning the mechanics and strategies, same is true now for bacc as I'm trying to learn that and would rather do it via play money at first. But once I know the game, doing it for play money will have absolutely no interest for me.

Ironically, I'm not a big slot player in Vegas but I find I can play slots a bit for play, mainly because it feels more like a video game and I'm interested to see what bonuses look like. But the rest absolutely not.

Take the 'over' in the NHL All Star game! Even if it's for beer money.

No. I certainly find many ways to piss away time, but if the thought is you take me to some place with bells and lights and I bang away at VP just for the hell of it, I say no thanks. I'd rather be outside playing, at the spa, eating. These are gambling games, take away the gambling and I'm just sitting in some box pounding on buttons, wasting time.

This. The only exception I could see would be if I was at the gaming expo and playing a new slot to try it out. But even then it'd only be fun because it would be to try out the slot that I would later be putting real money at stake on. The whole point of gambling is to put money at risk and hope that you catch a streak of good luck and come out ahead. Take that away and what's the point? You're just going through motions.

I do play at home on the computer for something to do sometimes. I have some of the slots on the computer and play for fun. Usually way way higher bets than I would ever really play. I will play sometimes when I'm itching to go t the casino but can't. I like to play real slots titles on the computer that I play in the casino though.

This question is in the vein of "are we all having fun or is this a problem?". The reality is that if you've ever lost more than lets say $500 in a casino, regardless of your net worth, the gambling aspect is your main motivation for playing. Would you spend $500+ to play a single session of a board game like Monopoly? Probably not. That doesn't necessarily mean it's a "problem" per se at that point, but it means that gambling has struck a nerve with you and it has the potential to become one.

Also, if you're posting or even reading on this board...you are quite likely a gambler. Whatever stakes you play for, odds are it's the gambling that does it for you, not the game.
