The waitress at my usual coffee shop asked for my help finding a hotel. Since they are in their 20's I know they should stay on the strip. It's been so long since I've stayed on the strip I don't know what to recommend so I thought I would ask you fine folks. There will be six college students on a tight budget. I was thinking a condo rental that would sleep six might be best. What do you guys think?

    All suggestions appreciated.

There are no Strip condos that allow short-term stays. However, there are several suite/villa options (e.g., MGM).

Planet Hollywood targets the 20-30 demographic well.

Well there are time shares on the strip maybe they could find a rental there? Jockey club, Hilton vacations etc....

Tight budget though hotels like Flamingo would work out well.

To me, the only advantage to a condo/rental type place for the budget conscious would be being able to do their own meals vs eat out.

6 20 somethings should be able to do 2 hotel rooms at pretty darn low prices. I would suggest the Linq for a place with a younger vibe, lower prices, and central location.

Flamingo could be an option if they are going in pool season and are willing to sacrifice room quality for a good pool.

Two rooms at Circus Circus, maybe Excalibur, don't forget the resort fees. How about Downtown? Stratosphere often comes up as a deal.

Hot.wire lets you select a property of a certain star rating, within a specific zone, and for up to 4 adults per room. Many listings have user feedback ratings as well. Hotwire carries a little risk as it could be a hotel anywhere within the chosen zone and you could end up with a king room with a pull out sofa to get sleeping accomodations for 4.

I also like the time share/condo rental idea. Jockey Club, Hilton, Westgate, MGM Signature, all can be found on time share rental sites like Redweek, or even check out eBay. Rates are date specific, so flexibility

PS, I stayed at Circus Circus Main Tower back in September, two nights comped/two paid, it was totally fine. I was attending a trade show and spent very little time in the room, so I didn't need a view or the accoutrements found in fancier digs. Plus I was by myself and business expenses are out of my pocket.

Something tells me -- go w/ a hotel, for their ages.
They can drop downstairs at any time + be at The Party.
Timeshare means they gotta head over to a casino/club/bar.....and stumble back !

I agree. Twenty-something group of six want to be where the action is: clubs, pool, shopping, atmosphere both outside and inside. To a group of six, especially in their twenties, gambling is not going to be the main part of their trip. It will probably be drinking and walking in the day-time, and drinking and socializing at night.

I would suggest Tropicana for pool and strip location or Palms with a shuttle to the strip.

When I was young many, many years ago I enjoyed the Flamingo as it is in the heart of the action and has a great pool. I recently took my 20+ children to the Flamingo 2 nights and Nugget 2 nights and they loved it. I should mention that they enjoyed downtown better due to the free bands, cheap gambling and outdoor partying vibe.

If budget is really tight, how about The D?

I know it's not on the strip, but last few times I've been there, Downtown has been getting more and more lively.

Rooms would probably be really cheap, and they would lower the overall costs of day to day spending, too.

Easy enough to hit the strip for nights out etc.

If the budget is REALLY tight and they won't budge on the strip the cheapest options are usually Excal and Circus Circus. Throw the Linq, Harrahs and Flamingo in there as well. If they are flexible about the strip it opens it up right away. But I know at that age you want to be in the middle of the action.

For being in the middle of it, I would say Flamingo.
For a big room, Rio. 600sq ft, get connecting rooms. And shuttle to Ballys and Harrahs. VooDoo upstairs, good pool.

NYNY, it's a good location, has a good vibe and is packed with first time visitors. Also has a pretty young crowd too.

You're getting a lot of good suggestions so I will toss mine in as well...

I consider the Bally's to V/P to be in the action as far as the ease of bouncing around. Bally's has pretty decent sized rooms and two of them would fit the group of six nicely. Two queens and a rollaway in each. That gives them easy access to many properties.

Flamingo seems to be popular but I am not a fan of the place. The LINQ has cleaned their act up but I think the rooms are small.

So on a tight budget I wold suggest Bally's

Early 20s, tight budget=Flamingo. I would never stay there now, but I did in 1994 at age 21. Great location, very cheap price, close to the better places they will want to be. They will hate any sort of condo option which will be filled with old people.

Group of 6 on a budget needs 2 rooms with 2 queen beds each at Flamingo. Rock paper scissor who has to share a bed.

For what it is worth, I am 21 and will be going to vegas for the first time this year. My 2 friends and I will be staying at the Flamingo in a 2 queen GO room.
It is center strip and I hear the area around LINQ/Flamingo is great for younger people.
Also a short walk to PH which I hear is great for people my age, and a short walk to casino royale for 100x odds craps.

Originally to save money, I was going to go with a LINQ room over a Flamingo FAB room. I decided at the last minute to go for a Flamingo GO room instead because of my obsession of Fear and Loathing/ H.S.T. I figured the extra $~150 would be worth the satisfaction and a great strip view.
