I just had a quick question about Atlantic City and hotel rooms at the major casinos. First, I am from the area (Delaware) and I was looking at hotel rooms for any weekend in March. I checked all the sites and most are 200+ a night. I keep hearing in what dire straights AC is in, yet I can touch a room for under 500 for a weekend. Am I gonna have to just suck it up or are there more affordable options?

Do you have a players card at any of those properties? If not, definitely sign up. If you do have a card and are going with someone else, at the Caesars group you can link your cards while booking to try and get a better rate. Otherwise, booking weekends is almost always crazy in AC. You could always stay at a motel in the city or nearby as a last resort.

What's funny for me is I can get weekends comped or at a good price most of the time at CET properties, but weekdays are sometimes a problem. Conversely, I can get Borgata almost any day except the weekends and holidays. Similar play, but probably more luck at Borgata and Harrah's.

Weekends are in high demand lately. affordable options would be either come during the week or stay at a non casino hotel. You might try some of the "name brand" hotels on RT 30 in Absecon which is on the way into town ,places like the Holiday Inn Express ,Clarion.etc. Good Luck. Have you tried one of the big hotel booking sites?

The closing of 5 casinos has put a premium on weekend rooms, especially in the summer. Weekdays, however, can be like a ghost town and have excellent rates. If you do pay a premium rate, speak to a host before you checkout to see if they can remove the charges.

We live outside philly and visit AC often. Weekends can be brutal there. Friday and Saturday command premium rates. Don't know if you have a players card at any of the AC properties. Usually Golden Nugget is not too bad on weekends. Sometimes Tropicana is decent. One thing at Trop is the difference in towers. The North tower has been recently redone and commands the highest tariff. Sometimes it pays to wait until the last minute when the hotels know their occupancy and tend to be more liberal. Last weekend I called the Golden Nugget on Saturday for a comp room on Sunday night. Sorry can't do it. Checked my wife's card at Harrah's the minimum rate was $ 192.00. (also checking on Saturday). On Sunday morning I called the Nugget, no problem what kind of room would you like. Also checked the Harrah's/Caesar's web site and like magic we had our choice of rooms, on a comp. SO in my opinion it's all horse s***. As they fill up the comp rooms dry up. When they get close they want to fill rooms, just like the airlines. Dear customer, please bend over. Sorry about the rant , enjoy your stay. Al C

We have done this a couple of times. The Casinos hold back room inventory for higher tier players and when they don't reserve, they give out comp rooms to Gold players (like my wife and I). If you reserve at an "off island" hotel, know the cancellation policy in case you end up with a casino comp.

As jerseyguy mentioned, there are many hotels on the White Horse Pike (Rt. 30) that are an easy drive into the marina area (Golden Nugget, Harrah's, or Borgata). We like the Clarion Inn in Absecon. Also, there is a Country Inn and Suites that is nice. The Red Roof was formerly a Fairfield Inn and the rooms are acceptable and usually cheap. We have stayed at the Sheraton next to the AC Convention Center via Priceline. Stayed at the Chelsea too, right next door to the Tropicana.

Many of the "off island" hotels have free shuttle service to the casinos if you're interested in that.

There are many little motels rear the casinos that tend to charge about half the going rate at the casinos.

We were at the Trop last Saturday night and it was packed. Most all the table games were full.

It takes a lot of play to get a comp room on weekends in AC. I'm a medium level player and I can get comp rooms M-Th no problem and sometimes Fridays, but Saturdays are really popular in AC and the number of rooms is much smaller now that four casinos have closed. Surprisingly, even though I usually play at Caesars, their Saturday rates are higher for me than the Borgata. Go figure.

AC is really a local crowd destination. Most people drive in for the weekend and have to be back for work on Monday. So, rates are very high on weekends ($250/nt) and very low during the week ($70). That's why AC is having such a hard time of it; you can't make a casino work when you're only busy 2 days a week and have bills for 7 days a week. They really needed to make the city a travel destination so that people would plan a vacation here; then more people would be here for weekdays. Trouble is, aside from the beach, the only natural destination is the Pine Barrens and after a 15 minute drive you've had enough. No mountains, no views, no National Parks, no interesting hiking...just beach...and only in the Summer.
