first, excuse the lack of capitalization but the shift key is hard to operate with one handed typing. i fell and broke my wrist back in mid december. i needed surgery and two pins installed. the pins have now been removed and the bones are healing, but now the damn hand is infected. it looks like i'm wearing a baseball mitt it is so swelled.

i'm on my 3rd try different antibiotic and frankly getting a little worried when you hear about all these drug resistant bugs you can pickup in a hospital.

the cast is scheduled to come off in two weeks, but i got overly cautious and postponed our feb trip to the end of the feb and we totally canceled our christmas trip, so it's going to be 3 months between winter trips and this sucks. we normally do nov, dec and early feb.

running medical bills total to date: $15,000 with more to come. i reached the $11,000 deductible on my insurance, but 1/1/16 we started all over again. 3 days ago i had to have an antibiotic iv drip and that was $600 and counting!!

btw, that $11,000 deductible carries a $1,450 monthly premium for the two of us.

i need a relaxing, drunken vegas trip with a couple of $4,000 royals.

    end of my whining.

Sorry to hear about your hand (and bills).
Now you've got me wanting a picture. Is it bulging out of the cast?

Stay on it, Joe! About 6 years ago, my father went to a very rainy golf tourney and borrowed someone else's rain boots. Seemed like a good decision at the time. He got a little pressure sore on the side of his foot that wouldn't heal. Then it got infected. Eventually it tested positive for MRSA and he was in and out of the hospital for months and months. Eventually he lost two toes and part of the outside of the foot. They say the MRSA is gone, but it still swells up and gets red and then he's back on the antibiotics again. He also developed some heart problems during this whole process. Doctors tell us they can't say for sure that the two are related, but it's funny how his heart gets worse when he's on treatment, and then better when he's off.

You don't want to mess around with an infection. Sure a drunken Royal fest sounds like a wonderful distraction, but you want this one handed typing thing to be a short piece of your life, not a permanent addition. ;)

Sounds awful, Joe. Here's hoping for a successful recovery and no more postponed Vegas trips.

FUCK! I commute 2.5 hours TWICE a day for work (there/back) which SUCKS...but for me and Kris, FULL COVERAGE good health/dental/vision, only costs me $150 a month.
Now, I'll take that commute EVER' Day

you do realize you're still paying for it, I hope.

it comes as part of your compensation and if the company didn't pay the amount they do on top of the $150 they could pay you more.

for example, when I look to hire someone at $50k/year, I know it's actually costing me about $75k/year after employer taxes, health insurance, etc.

if I'm paying for the same job to an independent contractor, I have the full 75k/year available.

    there's no free lunch.

Sorry to hear about your wrist.
Not sure of your age, but is medicare in the equation? I'm assuming not.
$1450 premium for a $14,000 deductible. You need to look for different ins.

23 more months to Medicare. it's actually a $11,000 deductible, but those were the going rates in 2015 from Arise, UHC BC/BS etc.

we had a $10k deductible plan, started at $70/mo a few years ago and was up to $130 last year.

now, the plan isn't offered anymore.

    a comparable plan is $530/mo.

Sorry about your wrist! I hope your third antibiotic proves to be the charm and the infection clears very soon.
In the meantime load up on immunity boosting foods and visualize all the royals coming on your next Vegas trip :)

Sorry to hear about your hand Joe and damn, that's a lot of money! What happens if you don;t have insurance and can't pay, do they just chop off your hand?? Makes me happy I live in Canada. We pay medical premiums of $136/month for 2 people (actually my Company pays them and I just pay the tax on it) but that covers Dr.'s visits as well as hospital stays and surgeries, etc.

Dang dude. That injury sounds rough. Take care of yourself. Hope you are on the mend soon. Yeowch for the medical bills. That would put a huge dent in my Vegas budget. And here I complain when our annual premium goes up by 5% pushing my family coverage premium up to about $250 a month with a $500 annual deduction. $mall beans
