I locked my car -- keys in the ignition - with the car running.
NEVER....NEVER.....did that EVER before in my life !
    *
    Yesterday -
Somewhere ?...on my way out of work -to my car -
to several stops along the way home --
I dropped a ring of work keys.
NEVER.....NEVER......in 18.5 yrs with that key ring - did I EVER lose them !
    *
I'm pissed !........ya friggin' old bastid !
    *
Today, I'll have to retrace my entire route + ask every business nearby
if somebody turned in a ring of keys.
I know some DEADBEAT is gonna think they have a key to the bank vault -
It still won't get you anywhere ?..keeping them ?....why ?....you gonna "Break + Enter" ?
Where ?.......no labels on any key......what good are they, really ?
    *
I checked my work parking lot....and route to + from.
Even checked around in case some Ahole threw them 20 yds away.

    BTW -
I scrambled around the job --
grabbed every original key outta every office
and desk --- NEVER told the boss about losing keys.:wink2:
Ran over to the hardware store for copies -
and somehow EVERY SINGLE key was cut correctly !
The odds of that are astronomical.
Not too painful - so far - losing that key ring.

I drove stick for the last 30 years and got tired of shifting. So on my new car I got an automatic. My wife and I went to lunch and on the way out I said I don't have my keys, I must have left them in the new car. Not only were they in the ignition, but an hour and a half later after lunch, the car was still running. It was parked on Main Street in a city with a population of 50,000. Can you say very lucky!!

All those decades of stick you know you have to turn the engine off before taking your foot off the clutch. And the new car is so quiet!

And yes, my wife won't let me forget it.

Didn't cars stop letting you lock your keys in the car back in the 90s?

    Esp with the car running.

My car was bought brand new 4 yrs ago.
No built in technology for it.

I FOUND THE DAMN KEYS !!!!
My commute bag -spilled over - onto the car floor from my empty passenger seat.
I had to hit my brakes hard, during my commute home.
I always put my key ring in a small plastic bag -- because of the grime/germs,etc - when
I carry them in my bag.
The keys.in the bag spilled out of my bag onto the floor ( unbeknownst to me ).
They got buried under some grocery bags ---
    *
    Well....
    The good news is ---
I have a full extra set of keys !.....which I have never bothered to make -- it's now, done !

    I don't feel as old , today !

I've been pulling stupid stunts like that all my life. Imagine how I'll be when I get old.

Wait until you get a car with push button start, and count the times you reach up to the dash to insert or remove the key that's in your pocket.

My Wife's car is a Toyota Rav4. It has push button ignition. The AC button is a scant 4 to 6 inches away. Several times I've pushed the ignition button thinking it was the AC button and the car dies.... in the worst places you don't want it to happen. Infuriating and scary.

My Wife did it just last week. She was scared to death until she realized what she did.

Worst design Toyota ever did imho.

**** This. Esp when your other two don't have push button start. Or your out in the middle of nowhere and the battery in the fob goes dead. Not good.

35 + years of stick and I have never shifted the car to neutral when parking. The car stayed in gear. My Saabs, the car had to be in reverse to remove the key.

They were a great design back in the day, but I do admit, high maintenance costs. My 83, 900 had front wheel drive, fuel injection, fold down rear seats with plenty of hauling space. Innovations American car companies hadn't even thought about yet. And I put almost 300,000 on that car.

But they starting tweaking the designs, adding more models and then GM bought 50% of them. The beginning of the end.
