    The rumors were true!

(AP) In a city built on luring tourists with cheap thrills and free cocktails, a big part of the Las Vegas Strip will soon slash away its most basic freebie: parking.

MGM Resorts International will announce Friday that it will become the first major casino company to start charging visitors for parking this year.

""There'll be initial backlash, but a month from now, three months from now, people will completely forget about it," he said"

"Free" parking should at least be including in the ridiculous $30+ resort fee.

That will remove the incentive to rent a car for me. I like having a car available, but I don't use it enough to pay parking for it. - Bummer.

Maybe it will, or maybe it will be included in a "new and improved" $35+ resort fee! ;-)

MGM Resorts International will construct a $54-million, 3,000-space parking structure near the northwest corner of the Excalibur Hotel campus that will serve to absorb further visitor growth and enhance the experience of attendees of events at nearby resorts and entertainment venues. The facility is designed to serve the city's newest venues – T-Mobile Arena, The Park, and the Theater at Monte Carlo Hotel & Casino – and provide additional onsite parking for employees. Construction of the new parking facility is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2016, with completion scheduled in the second quarter of 2017.

At the very least they better offer free parking to hotel guests. I used to be an MLife guy but I've switched to CET (not that they are all that great either).

Not a problem for me as I don't stay at MGM resorts anyway. Guess I won't be visiting those places either. their loss.

Agreed. If there aren't any 'common sense' provisions to avoid paying this fee then I doubt I'll stay at any mLife spots for my next trip.

This upcoming trip is my first time renting a car in vegas...and one of the reasons I wasn't worried was because parking/valet is FREE everywhere. I'd be ok with a nominal charge for non hotel guests or during events. But to charge all the time for everyone is too much.

The press release said Mlife members can avoid the parking fee through Mlife program. Wonder what level the fee will be waived for.

It better not be more than Pearl and up or it seems like a really bad call. I have one of those VIP parking passes for Luxor and Excalibur and those are spots are usually always available when I go. If it was gold and up only, I'm picturing a ton of traffic through the casino being lost. $10 would get me to move, especially if added to places like Luxor, Excalibur and Monte Carlo. As Danny Ocean would say, "This town's changed."

I can't think of any other major venue where you can park for free? I say be happy we had this long of a ride!

Just like with resort fees, the other hotels/ company's are sure to follow suit shortly. MGM won't be the only one doing this.

More likely that your parking spot will now have it's own resort fee!
$10 to park plus a $15 resort charge.

Definitely not my level. Gold or higher would be my guess. But parking at Circus Circus will still be free! :rolleyes2:

The article said that they would.
