Looks like I'm skipping MSS for one trip...and maybe more

    Hey All,

Just some thoughts/rambling about MSS and my next trip.....ignore it if you feel the need, but i welcome any and all thoughts.

Some of you know my history with Main Street, I've been staying there on every trip since 2003, bouncing between 3 nights and some food free and (lately) just 2 nights free. At one point, I had lost my mailers (aside from casino rate) but got them back. I stayed 3 nights in March 2015 and 2 nights in December 2015. Now, I know I just don't have much luck at the place, even though it's my favorite. Just for the heck of it, I did some research, and it turns out I've never had a winning year there, mostly because I've never hit a royal on any machine there.

It's pretty frustrating because I walk in going, "I love it here, but I know I'm going to be quad-poor and probably not going to pull a royal..." I'm just not lucky at Main Street. So for my March trip, I'm skipping it, and it really bums me out. I'll stop in, I'll play my Treasure Chest, but I'm not going to put in full days there. Part of me feels like I'm due, but nothing good has happened for me in 12 years of gambling there, so why would things change. I can understand being behind 2-3 royal cycles, but being behind on quads on almost every play day is a real drag.

Anyone else have this kind of issue, where you just love a place but you have no luck at all?

    Yes, Dave!
I'm been feeling the same way with MSS.
The hosts don't seem to care about the players, and this last trip, the checkin clerk was rude.

I've moved over to Gold Cast now, and have a very nice host!

Wanted to stay on my upcoming vacation but I couldn't get rooms booked online due to the big game. Frustrating considering the offer specifically mentioned a comp room during the time frame.

@ Kiddo -- It just feels like they've turned down the quads for me....of course they haven't, but it *feels* that way, and has for a long time. And I know I've played at least 120K hands there over the years, and no royal.

@RH -- I would call them. If you can get through to the host, they can sometimes do something beyond. That's never worked for me, but I am a pretty small fish in the betting pond.

I got offers from both Orleans and GC for the BIG GAME.

On Nov. 1-2 @ Orleans, I played over $16k in, They comped my upgraded suite! LOL

I get a couple offers for Super Bowl, but it never works out for me to go. In 2008, I took a short trip just to experience it once, and I hated going out for just a few days. 5 nights in December was okay, because I was solo.

I have been going now for 4 nights, works out pretty good.
    Gives me more trips now.

I always wanted to do a SB trip, so now it'll be off my bucket list.
Next year, I may try July 4th!

I agree that the hosts there suck. It seems like my swings in play have little effect on my mail offers. I've quit worrying about what my daily coin in is.

Totally agree with the consensus here that Main Streets hosts are the worst in vegas, rude and unhelpful. I Like everything else about MSS, but when we need a boyd host, we go to another property. Its been like that for while.

I like MSS and sometimes stay there. However, if I never have any "luck" at any casino I move on; this is easy to do Downtown.

    I agree with the above.
If you don't have luck - try elsewhere.
And i'm a guy who likes MSS.

My casino for bad luck is in the Linq area. Most of my stays have been at Harrahs, Flamingo, IP, but had to give up on them due to the losses.

I loved the location. When IP was alive, i had some success a time or two.

In the last 5 years I have stayed away and now going to the Gold Coast or a downtown venue. Much better success. I still gambling one day in the Linq area, but it is still a sure "loss".

The Gold Coast has always been my lucky spot.

I totally relate to loving a place but not having any luck. For me, it's Palazzo/Venetian. I really, really love everything about the place, but I never leave there a winner. So I switched to Cosmo for my last 2 trips and lost there as well, and found the casino was just too small to keep me entertained. Sadly, and strangely, I do best at some of the CET properties. But their hotels don't make me happy.

As far as Downtown goes, MSS was my home for awhile and I really liked it but I really didn't have a lot of luck there. So I have switched to 4 Queens, and have found myself happier there. I may not leave a winner but I might, and I seem to get a lot more play there. I also really enjoy chasing the VP progressives at the Mikes' Bar. And surprisingly, I find the beer there just as good as at MSS. It's also easier to bop around when I get the urge to hit up another casino or grab a bite to eat.

So, for me sometimes change is good, and sometimes not so much. But it's always worth exploring something different.

If I had to write out a top one hundred reasons not to gamble on a particular casino, luck would not come close to making the list.

For us it's Suncoast. We love everything about the place but neither of us has ever hit a royal there on bartops. That includes 2 years of living in Vegas and probably going to SC two to three times per week.

We didn't go there to gamble 3x a week. But senior movie prices once a week, a nice dinner once a week, a round of golf across the street and you can't be that close and not toss a $20 or so in. :wink2:

Perhaps not one hundred, but at least 10 or 20.

"Luck" is a powerful aphrodisiac, and of course nothing anyone does/wears/thinks/invokes alters the outcome. But we're not logical creatures. So while I agree with you wholeheartedly I do respect the pull that the irrational has on an activity that in and of itself isn't all that rational of a thing to do.

What amuses me is all the folks who say they are "lucky" at Casino A, yet still spend time a B, C and D, where they are not "lucky." If luck existed and it happened at A, why venture elsewhere, ever? It is folly to go elsewhere if we know where the muses favor us, no?

Ahh, because there is more to this addiction than perceptions of where we think it is lucrative.

I never won at The Riv. In fact, I got pounded at blackjack on the only two times I set foot in the place.

    Never went back.

That was over 20 years ago.

Orleans used to be my go to place when I needed a 4OAK fix. Wife hit 2 royals on the same progressive machine within 2 years of each other. I've had good luck at The Cal. Funny thing is, when I dabble in slots, I have better luck on the strip than the places that are supposed to pay better. I rent a car when in Vegas. I generally support b connected and stations properties. I go where the deals are for rooms or where I want to stay. I like to keep moving so as to not let one place beat me up. It's harder to hit a moving target.
