Is there such a thing...? No chocolate viewings or tourist traps... just the dam. I have been to Vegas too many times not to have visited it. It is getting embarrassing!

Can anyone recommend a reasonable and fun tour?
    I will be staying Downtown.

    Thanks.

Heck, it's just a 45-minute drive from Las Vegas. You can get dam tour tickets online or just walk in and buy them. Be advised tickets do go fast and lines get long on weekends. Having said that, this time of year there's usually no problem.

Have you thought about renting a car from someplace downtown for the day?

this is what we did. One of the car rental places near Hard Rock (used to) rent cars by the hour. We just rented a car for a few hours - worked out great.

As previously noted it is an easy 45 minute drive. I rented a car for a day last year and stopped and spent whatever time I wanted at the Dam and at a number of view areas.

    Well worth the time!

We did the tour via the tour bus.
Got to stop at a few places along the way.
On the way home he took us through a few neat areas that we would have never thought about checking out.
Best of all we got to sit back and enjoy the ride. Very relaxing.

I think I would like this very thing about a bus... no traffic hassles!
Do you remember what company you used?
I've read some reviews.... seems to be a lot of different ones.

I used Hoover Dam Tour Company (through Groupon) about 3 or 4 years ago. Was a good experience, but a long day. I think we got on the bus around 8 am and didn't get back until 3 or 4.

Pink Jeep Tour if you want to do it right. They picked us up at hotel in the morning, took us on an excellent tour and had us back to hotel by 1:30pm. The "Jeep" is actually a truck with a leather appointed seating area. Each seat is "mic'd" up to talk back and forth with the tour director who talks and gives sight seeing advice throughout LV and on the way thru Boulder. He parks you at Hoover Dam and you do your tour and hang out a bit and head straight back. This was one of the few things we did right on our first trip.

After this I have been three more times and done the tour myself in a rental car using the same route and sight seeing points of the first tour.

I see the Groupon is available for $45, nice price.
But I like the looks of the Pink Jeep tour.... sounds simple! Especially being picked up at your hotel. No hassle.

I'm not sure which hotels the Groupon company picks up at. We were staying at Aria and one of the pickup spots were there. Nice and easy. But the Pink Jeep tour looks pretty solid since it's only 4 hours from start to finish.

I stumbled upon the Pink Jeep tour after describing my ex-wife to the concierge, high maintenance, easily bored, etc, etc. He said PJ tour and it was a home-run!

    Ha, ha,... Captain.
I just want to see the dam, take a few pics, and not spend the whole day out there. And, I don't want to drive.

Just something to knock off the bucket list!

Keep in mind there are 2 tours. The "dam tour" and the Powerplant tour. The bus tours offer only the powerplant tour. It's about a half hour. The Dam tour is an hour and is better. But you can't make reservations or buy tix in advance and only 20 are allowed on each one. Driving is definitely the better option but if you can't drive there are some good Groupon tours as mentioned above that will get you there and back quickly. About 20 years ago I did one that stopped at cranberry world or something like that. Awful.

Omg... Cranberry world. Just what I don't want.

Thanks for the info about the 2 tours.
