    My Trip Report

I am still on cloud 9. It has been a week since I got back from mecca from an impromptu Vegas trip. We decided at the last minute to go when our host told us at the last minute that he could get us passes to the Venetian NYE party. We didn't want to be stuck outside in the cold waiting for the fireworks. We figured it would be once in a lifetime since supposedly 300,000 people descend onto Vegas to ring in the New Year. Okay, I admit it. We just wanted an excuse to gamble.

I was actually not planning on doing a full TR for this trip because our trips seem to be redundant with food and gambling. As I was researching NYE in Vegas, I noticed a lack of information in regards to the NYE party at the Venetian. I can say that I was a bit underwhelmed by the Venetian party when you compare it to Aria or some of the other casinos with a concert and dinner. I also was not told that they shut down the strip to vehicle traffic from about 6pm until about 1 or 2am.

My plans for a full TR changed when I hit several hand pays to start 2016. The final one was a true jackpot. This was a first for me in my lifetime. I have hit many handies but never a true jackpot. Pictures will follow. I came home with a nice 5 figure win all on slots. I figured there might be a few degens who want to see a few of my handies. :wink2:

Not sure if I saw you or not but I surely would have recognized the mustache and long flowing curls. Haha. VP was tight on NYE as I think they were trying to make their year end numbers so I didn't play very much. Played briefly on January 1. Won a lot and shut the trip down to lock in the win. I hope my host isn't mad as I didn't come anywhere close to my usual play. We were also with friends who drank too much. Most of the trip is a blur. I think I blew a 0.12 while eating dinner before the jackpot. The 12 is foreshadowing. Sobered up real quick after the jackpot. Pics will be coming. Can't decide if it is better to blow my load now or slowly reveal the jackpot pic. Suggestions?

Thanks all for the kind words. Yes. It was a $12k hit. Ironically I hit it after blowing a 0.12 BAC at dinner. I didn't have the presence of mind to take a picture of it. It probably would have been a really blurry picture. I am a cheap date. Maybe this will inspire others to blow a higher BAC and hit a higher jackpot. Kidding.

There were a few more handy's along the way. We ended up taking this one in a nice check along with other cash and prizes for the trip. I will hopefully get to all the details soon. A few more pics to come as well. Thanks for reading.

So we decided to fly in on NYE. We left early enough to avoid the strip closure. Since it was NYE and we are not high rollers, we decided to bring our own champagne. Stupid me forgot that I had to check our bags with the champagne. We got to the airport with 45 minutes to spare. By the time I got to check in the bags, it was 30 minutes until the flight, which meant that our bags were not guaranteed to make it on our flight. The next flight would arrive around 6pm. If the bags didn't make it, we would be without our bags for the day. We cleared security with no issues with TSA Pre-Check. We arrive just in time to board our flight. I snagged a window seat to try to see my bags make the plane. Wouldn't you know it. Last bag on the plane was mine. If I could have run down on the tarmac without being tasered, I would have given the guy a nice tip. First win of the trip.

Fresh off of my first win, I decided to spread some joy. I had 12 SWA drink coupons that were expiring on that day. There was no way I could drink all of it on our 3 hour flight. I bought everyone around me a round of drinks. Hopefully, it will bring good karma for the trip. It did. I believe in paying it forward if you can. We are lucky to be able to do the things we enjoy. Why not share a little of the joy.

We get to Vegas early with our bags of champagne. Limo pickup was easy right at baggage claim. No tunnel. $30 tip. We breezed right into the Palazzo. As we pulled up, there was a girl standing by the door. I thought she was waiting for a ride. She was dressed in a light blue dress like something out of the movie Frozen. She had a handful of roses. Maybe she was a bridesmaid waiting for her ride. Turns out she was giving roses to each arriving guest. The roses were stamped with the V/P logo on it. It was pretty cool how there were able to stamp the roses. Free flowers for the wife. I will chalk that up to winning again. I got my wife flowers and it hasn't cost me anything yet. We kept thinking this was going to be a good trip.

VIP check in was expecting us. Our room was ready and waiting for us at 11am. I was expecting to drop our bags and get lunch before we would be in our rooms. Looks like another win. With it being NYE weekend, I was expecting a view of nothing. We get to our room and it is just steps from the elevator with a nice view of TI. Fireworks will be shot from several strip hotels and TI was one of them. Another win.

A great omen to start the trip. Sometimes when things go well, the gambling goes great. I have had several bad gambling trips where everything did not go well before and during the trip. I am superstitious that way. Drives the wife nuts.
