I figure I'd start a thread on NHL betting so as not to sully the other threads. I find a bettable hockey game about once every two weeks or so. Tonight happens to be one of those nights for me so I thought I'd start a thread for hockey bettors. The confluence of events that I always look for when making an NHL bet is occurring today with Buffalo at Chicago. Those being: 1. Strong home team vs weak road team (according to the power rankings) 2. Home team on a win streak, road team on a losing streak. 3. Home team with good home record vs weak team with weak road record 4. Road team a lot of injuries vs home team with minimal to no injuries 5. Home team with a better goaltender vs road team with a weaker goaltender. 6. Home team with at least one day of rest. They're all lining up nicely tonight. I don't follow the Blackhawks much so I'm not going to go crazy betting this game but it looks pretty good for a bet. The moneyline is expensive, so I'll probably place a ML and a PL bet and hope for the best. I usually only consider a PL if the juice is over 200 but I haven't decided yet. Good luck!
I bet hockey when I go out during the season. Thanks for the tips... I will say I do watch the Hawks nightly and they are playing their best hockey of the season right now.
out of all sports i like betting parlays in hockey. a few early games and a few late games.. That way if the first few games are going well i can hedge my bet and secure a nice size win. just feels like i hit more of them in hockey than football or basketball
Great tips undathesea ! I am headed out in March which is not my prime betting season ( I do OK on football and baseball ) so this is great to reference. I am just as lost at basketball and will be there for March Madness. At least there is one NASCAR race, which I follow. Good luck, and thanks !
Why not just parlay the early games, and pocket the win? Why fart around hedging the late games? I never understood this theory.
Blues lost in OT for the third game in a row...argh. But we improved our record in Anaheim since '03 to 2-18-3 apparently...
Since the Blues just played OT, and they play again tonight against the Kings, wouldn't a good bet be in the Kings?
Since the Blues #1 goalie Jake Allen left with an injury tonight, I think I take the Kings even though Bovada has the worst line on them at -165. [emoji35] Our backup Brian Elliott hasn't looked well this year.
The reason for the "small" bet is because I'm now up $30 betting the NHL after last night's win (thanks for the tip Undathesea!)
I'm so glad you decided to bet somewhat small. I felt bad after watching it tonight because I figured you took my advice. Kings mostly dominated; it took the Blues over 50 minutes to get 10 shots on Quick! However, Elliott stole the show and the Blues won in a shootout after 7 rounds! 2-1 F/SO And apparently it's the Blues first win in Southern California (Ducks/Kings) since 10/18/2011. I definitely think you made a good bet that unfortunately lost. From a sports betting standpoint, that's what sucks about hockey, imo. The goalie's performance is often the biggest factor on the result. Former Blues great Bernie Federko in the post-game said that Elliott "stole 2 points for the Blues". Sorry!
No worries, I'm exactly EVEN with respect to the NHL, so now I can leave it alone...forever. (Or until Undathesea's next great confluence of events lines up, LOL!)
