Table Games Downtown Table Games (Craps/BJ)

Looking through the threads here it seems like a lot of people recommend Golden Gate for a good craps game. Was wondering what the table min and odds are there. I'm looking to hit downtown for the first time next weekend and I would love to establish some play.

Anyone know what I can expect on a Sat/Sun night at GG? What about the D? Seems like the consensus is those two establishments have the liveliest casinos.

Would really love to find a 10x game with low minimums and a 3:2 $5 table for my cheap friends. I've read $5 3:2 can be found at the Boyd casinos, but I get the impression those casinos tend to lean a little older.

Both GG and the D offer 10x odds. I've only played at GG in the afternoon when it was a $5 minimum. I'm sure other VMBers will chime in with their experiences related to table limits on weekend evenings.

The craps dealers at GG are top notch.

GG will have $5 3:2 blackjack at all hours. However, finding an open seat at a $5 table may vary.

Main St. Station offers 20x odds on craps. I like to play there. There are a lot of Hawaii people playing though. tables are $5, some are 3:2. If you're going to be down there you should check it out anyway. I tend to like the boyd casinos because they aren't "blasting" music, the music at MSS is toned down. GG music is a little too noisy for my tastes but for the younger crowd they might like it (also at the D).

 

I like both GG and MSS for craps. Both have excellent pit crews but the GG is a little slower game. For BJ I play at the Plaza or GG, have had pretty good luck at both in the past. My last trip Dec I couldn't win at BJ or 3 card poker but
did OK with craps at both GG and El Cortez. I like the 10X odds at the GG as I have never bet 20X odds.

 

I don't mind "Hawaii people" (haha) but I would prefer a more energetic crowd. I'll probably stop by MSS for their beers if they comp their drafts at the tables.

I am right in assuming you can comp their beer while playing table games? What kind of selection do they have?

This is a rotating IPA that showcases the citrusy, piney, floral, and fruity aromas and flavors associated with these types of hops. The abv on these beers will vary from the sessionable 4% to the imperial 11%. Be sure to ask your server what the current version is and be on the lookout every few months for the change in recipe.

The most reliable place to find lots of $5 3-2 BJ is the El Cortez. Lots of tables. Crowd is very diverse. Older folks, as well as a lot of younger folks who are looking for an inexpensive place to play. Craps is never more than $5 min. and always 10X odds. If the GG and D are busy, they'll up the min to $10 pretty quickly. There are a lot of fun bars around the El Cortez also.

 

Are most of the GG and D tables 3:2? I don't mind a $10 minimum, and since I'm probably already playing craps at GG I'd be nice to put as much play as possible on their card for room offers.

 

MSS is my go-to downtown. GG is fun, and to call their craps crews "top-notch" I think is a bit of an overstatement. Now, in their defense, they were universally the worst I had ever seen 2 years ago. I think they must have cleaned house and ditched the guys who couldn't do math. YMMV.

The D is loud without the atmosphere that I like at GG.

Second this. The D is lively, but I just can't stay there more than five minutes, it's so loud. If you want to be able to chat with your cheap friends while you play, I'd recommend MSS.

 

Ha. That's a good point... Maybe I'll give MSS first try and then fall back to GG of the atmosphere is too low key.

How far a walk is it from MSS to GG? I know MSS is a couple street back but I really have to concept of how far that is

 

15 minutes max, probably more like 10. From craps tables at MSS, go up the escalator, across the skybridge, thru California. Then you have to cross one street between Cal and LVC (RIP!). Go past LVC and there you are.

 

The real problem with the GG BJ is that they use continual shuffle machines on all their low limit games. I hate CSMs. A lot of CSMs at the D also. There are plenty of double deck games at the Boyd properties (MSS, Cal, Fremont) and the El Co., so I never play BJ at the GG or D. During the day, the music at the GG and D is tolerable, but no dancing girls. At night, you get the girls, but you can't hear a damn thing. Its really frustrating playing craps when the dealer can't hear your bets and you can't hear the call of the dice.

 

GG and D are all 3:2.

On a Friday night I played $5 at GG, and on a Saturday night they were all $10. At GG they are CSM tables though, so if you use a count that would not work for you. Not sure about the D.

Cal has $3 BJ 3:2 no DAS. Actually most games are Boyd Props are no DAS. Also Fremont has $3 2X's Craps if you wanna get your low rolling friends to play craps with you.

 

There seems to be no love for the "Nugget" (for gambling).

Do they just offer the nicest rooms and prettiest place, but are a heavy gouge to the pocket when gambling?

I have never cared for the over rated after dinner crowd atmosphere , but seems this is the norm for many on the board.

Is it that their table limits are higher, and we would rather go to the strip if we want to play $25 bucks a hand, or something else?

 

Well, the minimums are higher, the odds are worse (3-4-5X for craps), and the comps harder to come by at the Nugget. If you like to gamble like you're on the Strip, GN is your place. Most of us who gamble a lot downtown do so because there are good places to gamble. If you want to play at $25 a hand, you will be treated well at the D, GG, Boyds, Plaza, and El Cortez

 

Doesn't the nugget have 6:5 bj for lower limits as well? I thought they did but could be wrong.

 

I stay at the GN twice a year yet I hardly gamble there at all. Their Rush Tower rooms are great and very fairly priced. Love the property but the gambling there isn't nearly as good as other properties downtown.

Wanker is correct about 6:5 at lower levels. There is usually one decent $15 3:2 game and the $25 and up games are pretty good. I'd gamble there more, the casino and staff are great, but there are just too many other better gambling venues downtown.

 

I was out there in November and while the Nugget did have 6/5 games in its party pit area by the sports book, the games in the main pit area were all 3/2 and started at $10, maybe going to $15 on weekends. Can't remember about the games in the pit by Bar 46.

The weird thing about the Nugget was that the 6-deck games (again, usually $10) were DAS and surrender, while the double-deck games (usually $25) were no DAS and no surrender, which made the HA on the games pretty much equal.
