Hey guys im heading to vegas for 7 nights during march madness (bad timing for rates i know) 15th til 22nd.

Im throwing up whether to stay at the Luxor or Excalibur for the cheapest rates or just heading to Aria again on the poker room rate. See below differences in rates for the 7 nights.

    Flamingo $1,155.84
    Harrahs $1,180.00
    Ballys $1,248.80
    Vdara $1,382.53
    Monte Carlo $1,216.32
    Excalibur $791.84
    Luxor $1,025.36
    NYNY $1,120.56
Aria $1,374.24 (poker room rate - 5-6hrs per day of play required)
Bellagio $1,452.64 (as above poker rate)

Im from Australia so I also need to convert to AUD. So Excalibur being the cheapest is $1101 AUD compared to high end strip casino of Aria $1910. So I could save $800AUD staying at shitty hotel.

Im just after opinions really of how bad Excalibur and Luxor are? The worst strip hotel ive stayed in was Ballys (from pricing perspective) and that was definitely OK.

So if it was your decision......which option would you take?

FYI ill be playing alot of poker when im there but also will be doing a few other activities. Probably wont have car.

Great weekend to visit Vegas. March Madness is by far my favorite time of the year to visit Vegas.

Luxor is better then Excalibur, but location/room wise I'd go with Monte Carlo all things considered.

That Aria room rate is competitive, but depends on how much Poker you really plan on playing. If you're already doing a few hours a day then that's your best bet, but if you plan on taking some time to watch games it'll be much more fun to just pay a bit more for the room and play as desired.

Luxor is better then Bally's for sure. I haven't stayed at Excalibur so can't comment on their rooms.

I used to stay at Tropicana and play at Excalibur; Excalibur had the longest check in lines I have ever seen. You'll encounter more families there as well. Hooters used to offer some of the cheapest rooms in that area.

Have to disagree on the Luxor being better than Bally's.... Bally's have the largest regular rooms on the strip per most articles I have read and their new Jubilee rooms are really nice. Also prefer the laid back casino at Bally's with great drink service..... never had a good experience at Luxor. If you expect to put in the necessary play at Aria.....that would be tempting.

We have gone to LV for March Madness the last 10-11 years and had a great time watching the games in Bally's sports book.....great crowd and lots of enthusiasm. Good luck!

I agree with sybal. Just stayed t Bally's in a Jubilee room a few weeks ago, it was quite a step up since out last visit there several years ago.

Do you have a CET players card? If so, did you log in to get that price? The rate you have for Bally's is basically full rate with resort fee and tax, no discount.

If you don't have a CET players card, then get one and put a small amount of slot pay on it every day (assuming you're staying at one). Your rates for places like Bally's and other CET properties will take a nice drop on your future visits.

    Thanks for all the replys

I have a cet card but I don't get any comps anymore. I'm gold with mlife so rates are better than cet hotels at the moment. The only thing I did like about ballistic are the dining options and breakfast options suck. Aria is much better in that department. The pillows in ballys are also small I found.

So really out of the above list people are suggesting ballys or Luxor? I'm kind of leaning towards Luxor at the moment but not sure.

Looks like you're planning to mostly play poker at Aria? Then stay at Aria or vdara.

It's not a short walk from the south strip properties to city center. Also, if you're flying all the way from AUS, might as well stay someplace nicer.

Vdara all the way, the rooms are just as nice and its right there (short walk to Aria and Bellagio room) so no play requirement. For the little money you save there is no way i would stay at one of the lower tier hotels.

I would pay more for 7 nights, Excalibur is depressing... Aria or Bellagio would be my choice for a 7 night stay.

If you are thinking of CET, call them to get a price if you can't log into their site. You should get some sort of discount because you have a card. I agree Luxor has better dining options and Luxor has a more refined feel than Bally's. However, if you just want to compare the rooms I'd give the edge to the new Jubilee room at Bally's over a base pyramid room.

That being said, I agree with everyone else. If you're going to fly 10,000 miles, stay in a nice as place as you can since they all are within a few hundred of each other. Good luck Mate!

Hey Max you said you have a CET card. If you are traveling with someone who also has a CET card make sure you find out the rates with BOTH cards combined. This makes a huge difference and will get you some better options than Excalibur at the same price range. You can do this online and check all CET properties.

    +1 on VDara or Aria.
For $30/night difference it does not make sense to stay at one of the lower end properties for 7 nights.

Another vote for Vdara. Room will have a fridge which would probably come in handy being there that long.

i hope its ok because it aint cheap! i suppose its like aria but without a casino

I agree with you on that. When comparing the entry level room at Vdara to Aria and Bellagio, you get more bang for your buck. I like the bathroom setup better at Vdara vs. Aria. And like I mentioned before, having a fridge (and microwave) is always nice.

I'd have to agree with sybgal, although I've never stayed at Luxor. I have read enough reviews about the place to know that, all things considered, they cant touch Ballys!

I'm not so sure why people worry so much about the rooms. When I'm there I don't wander in until about 2 or 3 am and I hit the bed. I'm back up at 6 am or so and back out the door. I'm no too worried about the room other than it be clean and have a shower. I've stayed at the Excalibur, Flamingo, Monte Carlo, and the Tropicana. Each place fit my needs for the trip. I actually liked the Excalibur kind of the best. The room was clean and I had a quiet floor so what little sleep I got was quiet. Plus the price of the room was great because I had two free nights through MyVegas and paid for the third night of like $30.00.

The next trip we're planning on the Luxor to see how it is.

Late to the party here, but if you survived Bally's you could survive Excalibur or Luxor. Not exactly the same, but close enough.

I'd be all about saving that $800 to spend on other things, while on vacation, though.

That said, I don't know much about the non-casino hotels... and a lot of people here have said great things about Vdara. I'm sure you'll dig it.
