Well John........I can call him John, now ?....can't I ?
he gives away no secrets --
doesn't mention the guitar tunings he uses for
his unique sounds --- other than a dropped 'D' tuning -
    which he doesn't clearly explain....vague......and I'm a guitar player.
He uses many different tunings.........but he ain't discussin' that !
    *
I did realize after this read that it is HIM playing a fingerpick lead stlye
on some of his lastest cuts --- I thought, he hired someone ( Billy Burnett ) +
was a little dismayed that he would -- I was wrong....it was him playing
in his "new" stlye - which he says he continues to practice + improve.
The guy is a great rock guitar player.
He writes - he wants to improve !
    *
    He is obsessed.........about his recordings/production/arranging/songwriting.
The guy spent 10 yrs practicing his drumming for several "I play everything" albums.
    *
The memoir has ALOT to do about his initial, poor contract + the disfunctional
    Creedence band.
I have no idea, how it would be, to be "attached" to the musicians I originally started with ?
I played thru SO MANY personnel changes/line ups in my years - of running my band.
It took a large toll on him mentally, physically and financially.
And he still has to "deal" with these former musicians because of old/disputed contracts.
He does take his "shots" at those guys !......."Just give me the money."
    *
He takes no "shots" at ANYONE still living ( other than bandmates ) --
he "rips" a couple dead characters...........Is Ike Turner dead or alive ?
John plays it safe...........don't wanna burn any bridges !
    *
    His current wife.............
    Well.....?
I don't know ?......how many of these famous guys tell ya about "the love of their life"
    they finally found ?
I hear it too many times !
And the wife saying stuff like she didn't really know who he was, when they first met ?
C'mon !......Yoko said she didn't know The Beatles or John .........yeh, sure ! We knew, she knew Paul.
And now John's wife is manager / art designer / accountant / yadda -yadda.............
I can't help think of Frank Sinatra's last wife - she took on all those roles, too - and pilfered everything.

I think John Fogerty is THEE greatest American pop songwriter !

Insightful review. Thanks for posting. I love his music, but based on what you wrote I think I'll pass on the book. Not interested in the Creedence mess, and whiney works better as a vocal tone.

It's my understanding that his band-mates/stage musicians would play in the studio then he
would re-cut all the tracks himself. Makes sense especially before there were drum machines.
    So is that the case?

    mdee -
He doesn't write it that way........
He does say that he (himself) did "overdub" tracks, at times.
The CCR guys weren't happy about it........
and if he did "overdubs" with session guys -- he ain't admitting.
He does mention drumming to "Click Tracks" which became popular w/
recording producers + musicians - somewhere in the late 70's.

You've never heard of The Voice? It's been on NBC for nine seasons. Took over the popularity of American Idol although most of the winners haven't done anything.
