I'm sure it has been discussed here before, but what DT casinos have the best comps? I'm looking for a casino or two to play at that your average $$ gambler can earn some comps at. Lower stakes, but quite a bit of play over a few days. Any suggestions of places to consider/avoid?

Boyd will be a popular answer and you've got three great casinos to choose from; but my personal favorite is Golden Gate. They send me 3 free nights and $15 food and I play a little slots and craps/BJ at the red chip level. Also the best vibe downtown IMHO. I've tried to get on Plaza radar with some play every year but I never get an offer.

I also like the Boyd properties. I got 3 free nights with $30 for food at The Fremont coming up Jan 7th through Jan 10th.

Comps are pretty easy to come by Downtown. Golden Gate (GG) gives that free 3 night/$15 food/$25 match play comp pretty easily. I get it every month. Boyd properties also are pretty good with the comps (Boyd properties are Main Street Station (MSS) and The Fremont). BUT, I think the easiest casino to accrue comps at is the 4 Queens (4Q). I still have comps from minimal play that I have trouble using up. Just remember to concentrate the majority of your play at one casino with which you wish to get future comps, either rooms or restaurants that you favor. Your alternate play should be at one other casino that you want to get on their radar for future comps. Very little play outside of those two casinos until you're more established at your favorite places.

I have a $300-$400/day budget and usually play two or three days. At El Cortez I get monthly offers for a free room for three nights (Cabana Suite or Tower, resort fee included), $75 food comps and $75 or $100 in freeplay, plus one day where I can earn 5x points. I also get an extra $50 in freeplay during my birthday month.

Cal is also a Boyd property and points accumulated at all three count towards points and comps.

what's the nugget like for comps now? I don't play downtown much anymore because I never seem to make it off the strip but I'd like to go back there since the nugget renovated and used to give me decent rates for very little play.

I'm a $15-$25 BJ player and got nothing from them. That was 10 years ago. Haven't been back. I can play those same stakes at other DT props and get rooms, fb, free play, etc.

Good to know. I'm a slot player and intimidated by the tables lol. I like the vibe of downtown but was always hesitant to stay there because the rooms were outdated and the casinos were dingy. Now that that's not the case, I might reconsider. It's hard to once you've build up a relationship with a brand though even though it means nothing to them.

I'm in that boat of about 350 bankroll per day, probably 10 % slots, 10% bartop VP for drinks and the rest on tables. Wondering if a very solid amount of gambling every day (4) would be enough to earn anything. I am not a huge fan of Boyd, they are my local casino...

I think it all depends how much you play on the table. I am a red chip player and usually budget about $200 a day on the tables (mostly craps). I never get any offers and comps for my play. Sometimes I will be on a lucky table and bet a little more and I will ask for a comp meal but that is about it. MSS pit boss (and other pit bosses downtown) said that I needed to have at least $25 out on the table at any given time over a 3 hour period for a comped MEAL so I usually don't worry about comps because I don't play enough. I think if you use the $25 on the table for 3 hours you can qualify for comped stuff and anything less will be questionable if you get any comps.

I think the downtown rooms (except for the GN and the GG new suites) are all smallish compared to the strip rooms. And because they are all older the rooms seem a little "dingy" to many (even after the renovations). If you are comfortable with the strip rooms and roominess then you may not like the downtown rooms so not sure if you will like the downtown rooms chantelle. If you decide to stay downtown you may want to stay at the GN since they may be the closest to strip comfort that you have downtown. But then there are other nice rooms, like I said the GG suites in the back, the Cabana suites at the El Cortez and the Downtown grand might be renovated enough to be (semi) acceptable to a strip person (but some strip people still don't like them).

I was eyeballing the GN rush tower rooms and suites but those are already years old. I find most CET properties even too outdated for my preference. It's hard to leave MGM because they are constantly updating and are by far the more luxurious hotels. I will give downtown some play next time, at the GG and GN and see what comes from that before I jump MGM.

My wife and I mostly play .25 VP. I play a little BJ. We never had luck getting comps from Boyd, so we gave DTG some play and started getting room offers.

I'm sad that DTG is hurting as we found their rooms to be very nice, casino fun, and drink service prompt.

We're also looking for a new place to focus our play.
