RESORTS Hotel/Casino Atlantic City Info?

Hello to all,

Wife and I will be heading up to her hometown in South Jersey the day after Christmas to go to the Eagles/Redskins game on Saturday night, sister-in-law is a season ticket holder and invited us. We are also going to Atlantic City on Sun-Tuesday, since the sister-in-law is providing a comped room. I've looked around a bit, but don't see much info on the RESORTS casino. Does anyone know or have any experience there? Table limits, especially craps and blackjack (for a Sunday afternoon/Monday), restaurants, the vibe there, their comps? We will likely spend most of our time there since it's where the sister-in-law/family do the most of their trips. Any info/advice is appreciated.

Haven't been to Resorts in about a year. You won't have to worry about crowds there! Seems Resorts in always trying to find themselves.

 

Thanks Snidely, I was kinda afraid of that. We aren't what you would call *frequent* AC-ers, we've probably been 7 or 8 times over the past 10 years, and I have to admit, I didn't even recall the name of the place until our sister-in-law was telling us about being comped there. Guess we'll see how it goes :confused2:

 

We just returned from Resorts on Tuesday, my bride had a day off so we took advantage of a Monday night comp. we asked for a Tower room and they are decent sized with big bathrooms. We are low rollers and a little slot play gets us comps Sunday-Thursday. The table minimums for craps and BJ should be $10. We had a nice breakfast at Breadsticks, and we really like the Landshark Bar and Grill on the beach. There is an outpost of NYC's Gallagher's steakhouse complete with dry aged strips and loins in the window, we didn't partake. There is a bridge over to the Taj Mahal where you might even see a $10 two deck game available. It won't be crowded but it won't be dead during the week between Christmas and NYE. The weather has been great the last couple of weeks and we walked the boards down to Ballys, it was sunny and 60 degrees. Almost perfect.

Where is the "hey now" dude from the board who makes several trips to Resorts? I suppose he's at the mall with his Santa Claus outfit.

 

Thanks Hammie!!!! Very informative...we were told that if nothing else the rooms were 'old style' - meaning they were still of pretty decent size. Ten dollar craps and BJ should suit us just fine. I had seen on their website that they had a Landshark bar, but of course, you never know what that might imply until you have heard from someone first hand....Hoping that the weather holds out another week or two :santa although that may be pushing it. A stroll down to Bally's is a definite possibility if nothing else than to let em know we were in the area and grab a few points.

Resorts is just okay. If you're with the in-laws and that's their place then there isn't much choice. Best place by far is Borgata on the bay. Resorts has just downgraded their video poker and tightened their comp system (about $1,200 through for 1 point...NO SHIT) A lot of regulars leaving. Also, their HVAC is for crap so the place always smells of smoke. The Taj, next door, is barely hanging on and was expected to close not long ago but managed to stay open. If you can drive to other casinos, check them out. The Landshark bar is nice but it's on the beach, not in the building...did you do the trip to hang out in one bar? If you have a high level card at another casino, be sure to see which casinos will give you extra bonuses and upgrades to match your tier.

I'm not really sure why the in-laws switched over to Resorts, I think maybe they became disgruntled with Bally's/CET, and at the time Resorts was offering them some incentive to come there, and they've been going back ever since (for about 2 years). On one of our earliest trips to AC, wife and I did the boardwalk walk, and visited each casino, I can remember going into the Taj, but I have no recollection of Resorts. Sounds pretty discouraging about the comps and with my wife's health issues, the poor ventilation / smoke will definitely be a reason for us to walk (or drive). I'm sure we'll spend a fair amount of time in bars, but we're not all that particular as to which ones

 

Free is good so go with the flow like they say. You will have lots of opportunity in two nights to visit other properties,not many left. .Since they closed Revel and Showboat the only place left near Resorts is the Taj .I'm not a table player but you may find lower table limits over at the Golden Nugget.

As for comps, we received an offer for a free night tonight (Friday) and another email offer for Saturday. This is very rare for our level of play and I can't recall getting a Saturday comp from any property in AC. I think we had about $3.00 in comp dollars towards breakfast. We have not received any offers from CET in Atlantic City recently, I have no idea what happened. But, we played a little at Bally's on our trip this week, so hopefully we will be back on their radar.

By the way, the "Five O'Clock Somewhere" bar has $3.00 Dos Equis Lager specials all day. Wish it were the Amber, a decent brew from the tap. The walk to Bally's is about a half mile. We had lunch at the Irish Pub on St. James Place and the place is all decorated for Christmas, its two blocks south of Resorts. Very reasonable lunch, like a corned beef special for about $8.00 with fries.

No, but its a good one and worth having a beer while watching the waves rolling in, no beach in Las Vegas.

I'm a non-smoker and I haven't noticed it in several trips. Can't say the same for Golden Nugget, my clothes reek after a trip there. Your milage may vary.

 

If you want to hit some local bars, the Irish Pub, as mentioned above, is a good place and a block closer to Resorts is the Pic-a-Lili Pub. Both are on the divey side but both are pretty cool places.

 

Thanks for that! We passed this place and it looks like a hole in the wall, but a place I will check out on my next trip. One of the cooks was hanging out catching a smoke and said the wings were the best thing on the menu.

 

Now THAT was a Hoot!!! If we can have 1/5 the good fortune that that fellow had, we might just become Resorts regulars!!

 

I think we have actually been to the Irish Pub before, if I remember right, its a pretty old establishment, looks kinda like a hole in the wall from the outside, and is a true feeling Irish Pub. Enjoyed it immensely.

 

The wings are popular but I don't like them. They are doused in what tastes like vinegar and Tabasco. I'm not a big fan of vinegar. Maybe I'll get a different flavor next time.

 

Irish Pub has a lunch special thats tough to beat, .Bowl of soup and sandwich for 4 bucks. Cash only there,place you should visit at least once.

 

I wanted to mention there is a $5 craps table with 3-4-5 odds at Bally's Wild Wild West Casino and several $5 BJ tables with 6-5 payout. The Mountain Bar still has $3 beer specials, although it will be Miller High Life, Miller Light or Coors. There is a Hard Rock Cafe at Taj Mahal and they have a 3pm-7pm happy hour at the bar with a few $5.50 drink specials, $3.50 beer specials and half priced apps.

PS, if you attend the Eagles Redskins game, you might want to forego your team Jersey. Night game and some of the Eagles fans will have been pounding the beers all day. Most Philly fans are decent, but all it takes is one jack-hat with beer muscles trying to show off.

I appreciate the Bally's craps and BJ information....I have a feeling I'll end up spending a fair amount of my time there - may as well build up a few more comps....As for the game, although I was born and raised a devoted Redskin, being married to a lifelong extremely passionate Eagles fan from South Jersey, combined with my disenchantment from the Dan Snyder era, I converted. I won't be wearing either Jersey, but the wife/ in-laws will be decked out in green. (and yes, I've seen and heard what beer pounding Philly fans can do to opposing Jersey-wearers!!!)

 

As a follow up.............

We are back from our brief 2 day trip to Atlantic City and The Resorts Hotel/Casino (Sun-Mon). I have to say that I somewhat enjoyed our stay there. It's not Vegas by any means, but for a short gambling stay alternative, it was adequate. The hotel room was nice enough, very clean, and a decent sized room (I believe it was just a standard type room), included a small fridge and an in-room coffee pot. All of the dealers and housekeeping staff were very friendly and helpful. Our main purpose was just to gamble a bit, fine dining was not really on our list of things. We ate a late lunch/early dinner at Margaritaville's bar and it was fairly priced and the food was decent enough. My wife and I split the fish and chips plate and it was plenty for us to share, and very tasty. But the thing I liked the most, was the whole time I was there, I didn't see a single 6-5 Blackjack table. There were always at least 2 $10 tables open, usually more, and every table on the main floor was 3-2. True, they didn't offer Surrender and the Dealer stood on S17, but .....not a 6-5 table in sight. There was a small section of tables nearer to the bar areas that were never open, and I did not check to see the payouts there. Reason I mention this, we ventured over to Bally's on Monday, and although they only had a few $5 Black Jack tables open on the main floor, they were also 3-2, but the tables that were in the Wild West section, which seemed to be more of the party/bar area, those were all 6/5 (they were all closed on a Monday afternoon). Bally's was a bit sad, so much empty space, so many unused tables, although I hope it's lively at night, it was a complete ghost town during the day. The other thing I kinda liked at Resorts was that the pit bosses will still give you a food voucher if you play at a table for while. Fellow beside me playing Black jack asked and they hooked him up, so I thought, "why not". I had been playing $10 table maybe two hours and sure enough, they covered 2 meals at "Breadsticks", a not-terrible restaurant on premises. Maybe they still do that in Vegas, it used to be sort of standard - I haven't even asked in probably 10 years - and I don't recall seeing anyone ask for a long while. I played mostly craps, and there were always at least 2 $10 tables running, 5x odds, good dealers and usually a lively table.

Again, it's not Vegas, but we would certainly go back if we get any decent offers.

You might get some comp offers or at the least an offer for a $49 room with $20 in free play or dining credit, Sunday through Thursday stays.
