Made a terrible assumption when booking my flight into Phoenix in January (I always connect in Vegas and take an early afternoon flight the next day) that I would have a comp at Planet Hollywood or NYNY seeings how I haven't had to pay for a room there in years, even on weekends. After I booked my flight leaving myself an overnight in Vegas on Thursday January 7th I have come to find out that rooms are $500 a night everywhere. I called my host at NYNY and was even told there was nothing he could do.

Have I made a huge mistake? The amount of people won't bother me. I am hoping to find somewhere, will prices drop closer to date? I have found Rio for $175 after logging in to Caesars.com and have thought about that and just asking for charges waived at the end of the trip. My hope is to gamble somewhere mid strip and then hopefully find a club somewhere to hit and make friends.

What will hotels be like? What will clubs be like on a Thursday? Ugh, i'm so frustrated, anyone have any experience with this CES week?

As it sits right now I have a Hampton Inn booked on Hilton points on Tropicana, it looks about .5 miles from Excalibur.

    Help me with sugguestions!

my hope is that planet hollywood comes down. What will ratio at clubs be like? Does CES bring in a bunch of middle aged dudes like March Madness lol?

I actually thought about doing a pub crawl that night because I was a solo traveler, then again there will probably be ten thousand solo travelers!

there is a difference between being a cheapskate and not wanting to spend $500 on a hotel room when i'm used to having almost every dime of my trips comped. Perhaps the casino's have ruined my ability to spend money in Vegas other than on the tables.... Needless to say, i'm about the farthest thing away from a cheapskate.

I guess I won't be completely SOL, I will be in Vegas after all!

im diamond and i can tell you at the last minute harrahs last year popped in as comped and the others dropped to basicaly nothing. so book a back up that your happy with and keep checking, also dont forget about priceline or hotewire.

but stuff wont happen to the last minute also have you triend the cet website and book a corprate room , just a little trick any one can book one.

    https://www.cesweb.org/Register-Plan/Hotel

i once booked in for a sewing and knitting club as there were only 2 hotels in the town i was going too and they took all the rooms.otherwise it was a 45 minute drive

pss at the end of december they will release the unsold rooms the convention is holding so more will free up. i think the date is around 18th thru the 24th some were around then

Most years, I arrive at CES on Thursday night and attend the show on Friday (last day). I have had very good luck booking late......rates on Thursday of CES week have always come down to reasonable levels if I wait until almost xmas.........I assume this is because reservations are cancelled

Actually the last day of the CES is usually Saturday but by then most of the vendors are packing it up. It is a good time to visit though (on Saturday), you can buy some second hand stuff that the vendors don't want to take home, like big screen TV's and other stuff they used at the CES. The vendors also mark down some of their items just to get rid of them (they don't want to take a lot of stuff home so will sell or mark down stuff to cut down on their load).

The CES starts on Wednesday, Jan 6 and the busiest day is usually that Wednesday. Thursday is also busy but the crowd starts to thin out on Friday because most of the attendees have checked out much of the CES by that time. Plus by then the freebies have mostly been passed out.

As for finding a cheaper hotel room, it all depends. The hotels raise their rates by anticipating the crowd level. In previous years they overestimated the crowd and so had to drop nightly rates so they could fill up the rooms. This year with the (supposedly) improving economy they were predicting the crowd to be large so it will depend if they are correct, if so then the rooms may fill up and there may not be big drops in rates but if they again overestimate the crowd then they will again have to drop rates to fill their rooms.

Also they very likely have blocks of rooms reserved for group/conference rates.

I'm Diamond at CET and even I couldn't get fully comp'd that week. I was planning on going that weekened for NFL playoffs but decided to go the week after instead. I went from paying hundreds for the smallest room anywhere to getting a suite fully comp'd at the Linq with $200 in FP and RC. The difference a week makes in Vegas...
