Ok, so don't call me an idiot. Our 15th trip is less than a week away. We are mainly slot players with a little BJ thrown in to mix it up. On occasion, I'll throw in some VP, but here's where I need help. I see others refer to 9/6, 7/5 or something like that along with 'full pay'.

    1. Can you tell me what this means? I think it has something to do with the payout

    2. How can you identify the machines when searching for the 'good' machines?

Will you use the 'for dummies' version so that I can follow? Probably going to play some VP, but would want a better understanding of what I should play. Any and all suggestions/help is welcome. Staying at The D for 5 nights followed by 2 nights at the Gold Coast.

    Thanks for your help!!

Yes, these are related to payout. "Full Pay" typically means the best payout the casino will offer, often 99%+ return with optimal strategy.

And numbers like 9/6 refer to the full house paying 9 for 1 and flush paying 6 for 1 on non-wild games. Very often, only these two payouts are used to adjust payback. So for any particular game, the higher numbers you can find, the better! Each unit these numbers are decreased costs the player about 1.1% more in return. Example: 9/6 Jacks or Better (JoB) = 99.54% return vs. 8/5 JoB = 97.30% return.

The first half of my bartop sticky discusses this and more key VP info in more detail, please read it and ask if you have any more questions!

    https://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/showthread.php?111193-A-Video-Poker-Primer-with-Bartop-Listings-and-Better-Nickel-Options!

And once you read it, you should be able to better decipher the site that lists most of the best VP games around, www.vpfree2.com

Here are the links for the listings for the D and the Gold Coast.

Glad to hear you're taking a more serious look at VP! It's a good game to further stretch your bankroll!

    :evillaugh Thank you.

I figured someone would respond while I typed my wordy ways...

for a novice player, the play table is not critical. Yes, it matters.... but ....

There are tons of online simulators that you can learn to play on. Great apps for your phone.

Thanks Tringlomane. Will check these out. I've found the few times that I do actually play VP that I've been somewhat bored with it. Maybe I need to play some at the bar for a more social time.

Yes, some folks just do not like VP. And of course there are those that hate slots, or BJ, etc. Most of the VP fans on this site are SERIOUS about their VP.

Oh, I've noticed that...I also acknowledge that it has better odds. Just Planning on just shaking things up a bit this time and try something different and see how it goes. Who knows, maybe I'll be a VP convert?? Our local casino's do not have much in terms of VP so I guess we've never really checked it out in the past. Now, next time we do go local, I'll have to check it out.

We may even be more serious than http://forum.videopoker.com/forum/

And yes, I regularly post at both (under Vman96 there).

But I don't expect everyone to comb for the best game. Many casinos don't put their best games in large quantities for good reason! I just try to point people in the right direction. :) Hopefully I'm helping.

    You are definitely helping!!!

I don't consider myself a serious VP player, but it is my current gambling addiction...lol. Now that I have found a few variants to keep me excited, my ADD is kept at bay...as long as I am bouncing around amongst the variants.
