Why do shoppers fight each other on Black Friday?

I can't figure out the rationale behind these behaviors. What do these people do: punch each other out to get the "precious" package and then give it to someone as a gift with the intention of "peace on earth and goodwill to men?"

I couldn't believe what I was seeing on the news. Half of me wanted to crack up laughing at the stupidity and the other half wanted to weep for the apparent decline in basic civility.

I wonder if any of these people feel remorse after pounding someone out so that they can give someone the item they've taken from them.

It makes me sad to think people are forgetting what the spirit of Christmas is all about.

Oh shit, is it o.k. to say Christmas? Damn, things were so simple before.

Sadly the lack of civility in our society is the new normal. The 'me first' and sense of entitlement crowd reign supreme at the moment.
I don't have a solution other than we continue to do our part - beginning at home at an early age by teaching civility and instilling good manners in our children and practicing what we preach.

I'm with you 100% on this. The only thing that I would add is that in many of these instances where someone uses violence to save some money I highly doubt that these are the same people that are charitable at heart. They are out for themselves and probably giving somebody a Christmas, oops......holiday gift, is the last thing on their mind. They want the cheaper TV, Camera, Blu-Ray etc. for themselves.

Every year we witness this spectacle. If it weren't so damn tragic it would be kind of funny.

I never thought about this but it makes perfect sense. Keeping those TV's, cameras, Blue-Rays, for themselves is probably in line with the behavior that I've seen.
