maybe this is a coincidence with million to one odds or something but I have to run this by you guys and get an opinion.

our local casino is the Hollywood Columbus, which I find myself going to less and less. the dealers and staff are ok imo but the management must be full of buffoons. that is a different story to tell another day.

anyways, I enjoy playing crazy 4 poker. I realize it has a fairly high casino advantage but I like the game.

during the time I've played, I have hit two straight flushes. the first one was about two years ago and was the 6789 of spades. the second one was about a year ago and was AKQJ of diamonds.

a buddy of mine enjoys the game too. in the last week he has hit two straight flushes. one was 6789 spades and the other AKQJ diamonds.

is there a chance that the shufflers are preprogrammed to shuffle the cards in a certain order? I'm talking about tons of variations but isn't it strange that we hit the exact same cards.

would be interested in your opinions.

I tend to believe it's just odd coincidence. There are only 44 possible four-card straight flushes to choose from, 4 high to Ace high in each suit. So if both players have two straight flushes each, the chances that both of their straight flushes match rank and suit is just: 1 in 44*43/2 = 1 in 946.

    Total coincidence.

I believe when new decks come in to table games, they first inspect then randomize them before putting in a shuffler.

As for non new decks, they are going in in a random state, so rather than a certain order the machine would need to recognize and sort cards. And recognizing and sorting into winning hands would be a bad machine.

pai gow shufflers recognize every card that comes through it. the funny thing with pai gow is that the dealers at Hollywood are anal about putting the cards in the discard tray in the order they were played. I have asked them to do a quick one time cut or riffle to change things up and they aren't allowed to do so. I think that is dumb but it may be part of the state law. I have a hard time imagining any casino doing anything underhanded to jeopardize their gaming license and am not implying that they are cheating. I just wondered if there is a program that says put the cards in this order for the next 1,000 or 10,000 hands then after that repeat.

But the thing is, the shuffler scans each card as it is shuffled and it knows exactly what cards are coming out and in what order. Not hard to program the shuffler any way you want...

The shufflers they have at SLS know exactly what cards each position is dealt...Little too much information for the house to have...

I will never understand this paranoia. It's obviously a protection aspect for the game and nothing more. The MATH already tells you all you need to know about each and every game on the floor. They win in the long run. They don't need something like this to increase that edge.

My original post never really implied that there was any cheating going on by casino but was wondering if, since the shuffler knows every card, that the shuffler is preprogrammed to deal in a certain order. I realize machines have RNGs in them but to advertise a certain payback, I would assume that jackpots have to be hit to reach that percentage so I guess I thought maybe the shufflers could do the same thing. Even if the shufflers are programmed, that's no guarantee that the player and not the dealer would get the premium hand or that the hand would even be dealt, depends on how many people are at table.

Btw, stopped in yesterday and lady at first base hit A234 Diamonds for a nice payday.

Read videopoker.com if you want even more conspiracy theories. I'm happy this forum tends to keep to to a minimum.

The house edge is a statistical analysis. They don't have to force it. If they did, the analysis would no longer be valid. And also illegal. Everyone should trust Tringlomane. His math and logic is right on. I think many people get odds on a single event mixed up with probability of multiple occurrences. It is the same probability that a 3 in roulette occurs twice in a row as a 3 and a 4 in succession. But once an event occurs, the odds of the next event is exactly the same as the first event (aside any slight skew of the equipment).

    Thanks for the compliments.

Yeah, problem is not everyone trusts the casinos to follow the law. Nor do they always follow the law because they could possibly make more money by breaking laws. But penalties are pretty rough if they get caught. At one of my locals I don't even try to walk in without showing ID, even at 35, because I know I'll get stopped. I'm sure they wouldn't be doing that if they never were fined heavily for letting a minor in. The other casino tough in town, one of their employees admitted they got a 6-digit fine once.

And these machines that read the cards for statistics, game protection, electronic display purposes, etc. They have to be approved by an independent gaming lab before they can even be put on the floor. So you would need 3 groups intent on cheating (manufacturer, gaming lab, and casino) for it to be cheating the player.

I personally don't think it's worth worrying about, but if someone does think this, then like nevyn says,"don't play them".

Sounds like good numbers to play in a lottery.

C4P is one of my favorite games. I have received three SF'es...A-4 of hearts, 3-6 of spades and 6-9 of diamonds. I have had three others occur at my table...7-10 of diamonds, and two others in clubs. I think your results are simply randomness mimicking a pattern. I say let's both get 5-10 more and go from there!!
