I will be in LV from Feb 25 to Mar 7 and we will be two couples. This is a first for me. I usually would go with my BF and we would just party and gamble for 10 days. This time we will still gamble and party just on a different level.
Now I have 5 nights at the Rio from my TR which will be the last 5 nights Mar 2 to Mar 7.
Here is where I need help, my BF s bringing his GF and me my wife. They are low budget people and want to save money as much as possible. My wife and I offered for them to stay with us at the Rio. But for the other 6 nights we wanted to be alone for at least the nights that were not weekend nights which are much cheaper.

Personally I have offers at the Trop for 3 nights any time and 3 nights at the GN anytime. I was hoping to get something from ST but have been snubbed for some reason. I like the feel of the off strip casinos to unwind a little. I was thinking maybe giving them the room at the Trop for 3 nights and would take the same 3 nights at the GN that would leave us 3 nights to purchase each couple.

The other problem I could potentially face is that I give no play to the Trop at all and would be in some kind f trouble with them.

This being nice stuff can be confusing and difficult at times.

I would like to go to LV just once and not feel obliged to give the play needed to keep my room offers. That's why I like TR so much, I don't always have to deal with my host there. Maybe we should just get a room for the six nights at two or three different casinos at casino rate and split the bill. But gain that would mean zero alone time for my wife and I........Oh goodness helpppppp lol.

My usual rule of thumb is if I book with my host I will try to give the casino my usual level of play, but if I am low-playing the casino I book the online/mail offer through a casino I have no assigned host with. I was told that once you are assigned a host all your play and comps are tracked to them (even if you don't book through them) so short playing hurts their numbers, not sure if this is true but it sounds reasonable.

Also if you will be staying and playing somewhere talk to your host, they might be able to get you a cheap or free second room, especially if it's slow midweek nights.

You can get a friend's rate for an additional room at CET; better than sharing a room....no good can come of that.

No way in hell would I share a room. That does not make for a good trip. You need some along time. Some private bathroom time. Some space.

I would tell them what you can do for them as to free or discounted rooms. Let them decide.

I often allow my friends to share my free room.
While we get along great and it is not a problem, there is always a little bit of feeling that I wish I had my own room.

not having to worry about waking someone when you come in crazy late at night, when you have that instant need to go to the bathroom but someone is in the shower really sucks.
It is just hard to tell friends to pay for their shit when you get one for free (not really free but kind of)

    I totally get it.

First question would be: how much 'free' stuff - rooms, etc did you already commit to?
Honor that commitment, then make sure they know they will have to pay for the other nights so there are no issues later.

If you use your comp rooms for them, make sure to play enough to stay in good standing for future trips.
How much do they gamble? Use or share players cards to get optimum credits that might result in backend comps or a couple of meals.

Then y'all sit down and start looking online and/or calling for cheap rates at places both couples would enjoy and afford.
Downtown, and some strip places like Luxor, Excaliber, etc start around $39 weeknights at discounted rates, also Station Casinos (since you like off strip) also have cheap weeknight rates. If the friends can't swing that, maybe they would consider staying fewer nights?

The four of you will have a much more enjoyable trip together if you part ways each night....especially for a 10-11 day stay..
Your friends are lucky to have such a generous and caring friend - best of luck on your trip!

I am so confused with all this :( Thank you for your input. I think its too late already having committed to getting them rooms. I will honor the last 5 nights at the Rio. They are bigger rooms. We will also share my comped room at the Trop for the weekend nights. Leaving the 25-28-29-01 where I will help them find cheap room rates like the Gold Coast for 4 nights for 150$. I don't want to be forced to gamble like I usually do because their presence. I want to just gamble at my leisure and not have to play to pay theirs and my rooms. I will never do this again.

You are learning the lesson from Robert Frost...'Good Fences make Good Neighbors'
The poem expounds on how set boundaries from both parties makes for better relationships. Your boundaries have been overrun by a friend...and by your own doing. Decide on where the line is in your friendship of how much you are willing to do and in the future you will know how much to offer without overstepping it. Just try to enjoy your trip this time, the damage is done. Honor your promises to your friend. In the future you may want to take your free room and only offer to see if you can get your friend a room at 'casino rate'; if not, he would have to pay for his room on his own.

    Hey Samstown man,

    It's all good.
Look at the positives: Vegas with good friends - they will appreciate a trip made possible by your generosity - your generosity will bring good karma your way - and you will win BIG! Make the most of the nights you and your wife will be bunking alone:kiss::beer::kiss:

Next trip - spoil your wife with a trip for just the two of you!!!

If this is your BF, why don't you talk to them about the situation. They may be having the same or similar thoughts about room sharing. You have time to discuss this and maybe work out a solution or a partial solution.

I wouldn't share a room with anyone on any vacation. If he is really your best friend he will understand.

Different people have different life budgets and gambling budgets.

BUT - I am amazed at folks that will drop $1000 on the tables/slots but save $100 on a room. Beyond my comfort level.

Does anyone know if the statement above is accurate ?

    My suggestion:
Call the Rio promotion desk... reference your currently booked offer. Ask them if they can book an adjoining room to your for your friends for the same 5 nights.
(They probably will). Talk to your friend... see if he's willing to split the total cost for both rooms with you.
Then, for downtown... use your GN offer for 3 nights & suggest any of the other downtown properties to your friend...rooms are remarkably inexpensive downtown (except for the GN).
6 nights at, say, the Fremont would run about $400...which is about what your paid extra 3 nights will be at the GN.
Bottom line is that your out-of-pocket room costs will be nearly identical for the entire trip, but he will have the advantage of getting his Rio room for half-price (since you're splitting the entire bill for both rooms).

Like others, I would advise against spending 5 Rio nights in the same room with another couple... that's just too much for all but the closest of friends to endure...

Gold Coast rooms are cheap (as you mention).
You could suggest the Gold Coast to them & pick up the tab yourself... and that would probably be less than the 50% of an extra Rio room...so, your out-of-pocket would be the same, but your friend would get a friend-comped room for those 5 nights... and that might make it more palatable for him to spring for his own room downtown.

You're talking about 12 total nights... surely, your friend will understand that all of it can't be comped... he's going to have to come up with room-cash.
Perhaps you can get him to give you a number - his maximum $$ that he can afford for room costs for the trip.
Since he's the one with the budget issues, he really shouldn't have any objection to staying at Gold Coast or a non-Golden Nugget downtown room.
    Your 12 nights include 4 Fri/Sat nights & 8 Sun-Thu nights.
Figure at $60/night for Sun-Thu & $140/night for Fri/Sat, he would normally be looking at just over $1000 for room expense... (assuming Gold Coast & a non-Nugget property).
Using one of these strategies, you should be able to get his cost down to $400-$500.
I cannot imagine any friend being upset with that.

As big as the rooms are at the Rio, any room is too small for two couples. A family member has suggested this arrangement before, but I will never share a hotel room with another couple, even if we are swimming in the same gene pool. But once the offer is extended, you need to follow through.

I would also suggest looking at Palace Station, minimal play there generated an offer of discounted room rates, around $19 per night. Same went for the Stratosphere .

Right now you gotta be in damage control mode, making the best of a sh!t sandwich. My advice is to have an honest conversation now rather than have regret after the trip. You really never know someone until you've lived with them and 10 days is long enough.

I would have no issues bunking up with my best friend, in fact, he's retiring in a few months and I had an idea for a trip to Vegas to celebrate. But add the girls and its a whole 'nother ballgame.

I gotta ask, is your BF frugal on the trips you take together and how do you handle this?

I learned my lesson years ago, I used to go with other guys or sometimes one guy, I never share a room anymore! I want to get up when I please & sleep when I please, plus no matter how good a friend might be u have to have your space & the same with them, if they can't afford their own room they shouldn't go to Vegas!!!

wow, forget the other 6 nights, you gotta find a way to back out of that.

sharing a room with another couple for 6 nights??!!!!!

that's a quick way to ensure your trip is a complete disaster.

even when I'm by myself, I refuse to share a room even with a good buddy.

I don't want to sleep in the same room or share a bathroom with anybody.

since you offered the room, maybe now you have to pay for their room, but it's well worth whatever it costs. it can't be much at Rio.

however, I might reevaluate your entire trip with this couple.

if they're that cheap that they can't pay for a hotel room in the city with the cheapest hotel rooms in the world,

how are they going to eat? gamble? do any other activities?

I wouldn't doubt you end up on the hook for some/most of that as well.

it's always fun to invite others on a trip, but you have to let them do their own thing and cover their costs and let the chips fall where they may.

I would share the room, even if you put them up somewhere else, they will be far away.

I'm not a big Vegas traveler(I leave for 2nd time trip next week, 1st time solo).

Anyhow, I take several motorcycle trips a year with other couples. We almost always share rooms together and spend most of the trip together. It can be hard at times but also fun since you wouldn't be taking a trip with these people if they weren't close friends.

Everyone here is adults, yes you need some alone time as a couple. Whether it be just to hang out or for more carnal reasons.

Nothing wrong with saying hey, you guys go to dinner, a show whatever, the wife and I are going to stay in for a while *wink wink*.

It's not about the $$ for us, it's about the whole experience. Yeah, we break off at times, do our own thing but it's also nice having the extra company to keep the conversations going.

It has plusses and minuses on both ends, but in reality, who goes to Vegas to hang out in the room anyhow except for private moments or sleeping?
