So just finished playing a session at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, and wanted to give my 2 cents on tipping at different casinos around the world.

In Macau, tipping is allowed by most patrons don't do it. Dealers do not expect tips and usually have a bad attitude anyways, with or without tips.

In Singapore the attitude is much better, but the situation on tipping is the same . They are very surprised to get a tip and even more surprised if you bet for them. The dealers usually are a bit friendlier in Singapore as compared to Macau, but still not as friendly as most good US dealers.

In Australia tipping is not allowed for table dealers, dealers are generally friendly but they won't pretend to root for you to win.

All in all the US system is still the best, you get dealers rooting for you to win so you can tip them. However, I realized I save a lot of money in these other casinos with minimal tipping at the tables because it is so not expected by the dealers here.
In Australia since it is not allowed at all it might be even better.

Interesting I think I'd hate places where the dealers despise the players

Well if you read some of the dealer boards a lot of dealers do despise the players, in the US they just hide it and at least appear to root for you because of the tips. In certain other countries since they don't have the tip incentive besides basic customer service, they keep banter to a minimum.

I can spot the really bitter dealers usually on the strip props in less than 20 mins

    Thanks for the info, natedog!

It's interesting to hear about the differences in tipping world-wide. There was a blurb on the news a few weeks ago about restaurant tipping around the country and the globe.

I have a coworker who doesn't believe in tipping at all. He has a long-winded way of trying to explain himself without coming out to say that he's a selfish cheapskate. We don't take him out much as the staff at all of our regular after-work haunts tend to avoid him like the plague.

I have been all over the world and like the tipping system here.

I would have to say the poorest service I can recall was in Australia. Servers at restaurants didnt seem interested in helping any customers. I am probably the least demanding customer you can get as well so not like I was being a jerk or anything. Just ordering our food.

Hong Kong was hit or miss. Singapore was decent service but you are paying out the nose for everything so it should be good service.

This ^^^ I always assume its just a put-on anyways. I don't actually but into their rooting, unless of course you have gotten to personally know them over the years.

Unrelated to gambling, far and away the best service I've had for anything (and, indeed, everything! ) was in Japan, where tipping is not customary.

In casinos in Spain, France, and Monaco tipping is not usual at all but seems appreciated when it is done.

That's the thing, I think if it is not totally expected then the dealers appreciate it a little more. Maybe they don't pool it here? I have to ask.

I had asked the concierge in my Tokyo hotel about a specific restaurant I had read about. He put us in a cab and told the cab driver to drive us and then walk us to the restaurant, down a lane way.....the driver did.

In Asia and the Mid-East it's considered good form to give a "gift" rather than a tip. For, a tip is something given to a servant whereas a gift is something given to a friend.

I've played at Holland Casino in Amsterdam. I don't recall tipping being expected. The only time I can remember tipping much in Europe was at Oktoberfest to our server as it's very busy and we needed litres of bier.
