A friend just told me that Vegas is bringing back the Super Bowl parties the way they use to be more than 10 years ago. Back then casinos would host huge viewings of the game and serve food/drinks for a price. My wife and I watched the Pats/Panthers game at the Hilton in their convention center on 30 foot screens with over 4000 other people. The tickets cost $55 each and came with all the fan food you could eat, and beer/soda you can drink. The NFL came down on Vegas after that game, saying that they can't charge to watch the game since it's a free event. So basically the casinos trimmed the parties down to a fragment of what they once were.

Has anyone else heard something similar?

BTW, we got reimbursed the $110 we paid for our tickets a month after the Superbowl.

not sure where you've been the last 10 years, but the parties are still like that.

they're just free now - invite only.

All I ever seen posted lately (past 10 years) was small parties in the sports book areas, select restaurants, or even strip clubs. The days of filling convention centers or concert theaters were gone. The two experiences cant be compared.

If you gamble enough to have a host at one of the big properties, you will probably get invited to a "Big Game" party (they cannot use "Super Bowl" in their wording). I have been to the Aria and Cosmopolitan parties in the past couple of years, and they are held in their convention halls with giant screens etc, just as described.
If you want to attend one of these invitation only parties, you need to gamble enough, or have a friend who gambles, or try to buy a ticket on the "black market".

Heck, virtually all of the bars have some sort of Super Bowl celebration. Some of the ones I frequent set up large screens on stages just for it. It's more pleasant for me to be at a bar v the larger venues. But, I think there is a vibe when there's a large crowd involved.
