Does Priceline "name your price" exempt you from resort fees?

As I'm starting to plan my next journey to Las Vegas, I've been fiddling with hotel rates and I am coming to realize just how insane the "Room rate + ______" arrangements are, even up in Fremont. The strip, you can forget about paying anything less than $20 per night (except for the Best Western) unless you're a TR diamond or above player... Downtown, nowhere any good will charge you less than $12.99 per day - and some want $8 or $9 per day for wifi on top of that!

So, needless to say, I've been looking for workarounds so that I won't end up stuck paying $80 per night on what was supposed to be a $40 per night booking.

Through VMB, I was made aware that Treasure Island's resort fee is optional under some conditions, so I decided to look into that.

Sure enough, Googling "Treasure Island waived resort fee" turned up a TripAdvisor review on the topic, which had a helpful response from one of Treasure Island's reps...

Now, I'm not a big enough player to meet the requirements of whatever "qualified" means. Additionally, I don't watch TV, so I would never have been made aware of any "TV Ad Special Offers" (though having gone through the "TV Ad Special" motions on their website, I have concluded that very low rates are, indeed, available and for Sun-Thurs, there are no resort fees charged).

But what I'm getting at is this... in the context of TI's response here, it's clear as day that "name your price" reservations do not require a resort fee to be paid (presumably because if in my "name your price" bid, I state my maximum as $60 per night, I can't be obligated to pay anything more than that).

Then, would this be a practical way to attempt to get accommodations in Las Vegas while not incurring the resort fee?

I'd love to know if anyone else has attempted anything to this effect, or if some more experienced Vegas-goers can chime in here.

 

Typically no. It is usually in the fine print that the price is independent of an additional fees charged by the resort such as resort fees, etc.

 

I'm currently doing a "name your own price" bids right now and they add the possible resort fees when you get to the verification page for your bids. I think this means that they are adding it to the bid price.

 

I do not think so. There is a message board on the Name Your Own Price that gives tips and tricks on how to bid. Really interesting. Something like if you bid on a 5 star and do not get it, do not raise your bid but bring your star down by one. That way you can bid twice as opposed to waiting.
I am new to Name Your Own Price but I really think its an awesome feature.

Why would you be booking thru a third party site if you are Diamond?

 

Because I'm not actually Diamond. In Atlantic City, they'll tier match. So I grab a Diamond card (I actually am Platinum at Mlife, which after a couple hoops got me to diamond in name only at CET) for some of it's perks.

 

VegasSchemer: I would check online before booking through Priceline. You may have a free or almost free room coming to you. You may also have Diamond waver of resort fees coming to you. Go to www.caesars.com and sign in. DO NOT use the 'Book a Room' box. Click on 'book now' at the very top of the web site. Click the 'flexible date' feature and Las Vegas for the destination. Click on the month you are inquiring about. The whole month will come up with all CET resorts, rates, and which ones will comp which nights. You can also go to 'my tr' and it will show you what level they have you in their computer system. If it comes diamond then there is no resort fee.

 

Always book through the hotel site first before Pricelining. You can cancel your hotel booking.

Also, a big fat NO on the resort fee waiving. Priceline doesn't charge it either. Neither does Hotwire. Those are purely hotel add-ons.

My recent stay at Ballys was through Priceline. I had Ballys booked at a great rate through TR. I then used Betterbidding.com and got Ballys through a Priceline Express Deal and saved almost $200. We stayed Thurs through Wed (Vet Day).
I got an Indigo room but was upgraded at no charge to a Jubilee (our anniversary).

Bally's may be my go to spot from now on if I don't want to spend a lot. Otherwise, Cosmo for upper tier and Vdara for the middle. The only thing I hate about Vdara is that it's so far back from the strip, I hate saying that it is, in fact, on the strip. However, that's an issue for many strip casinos and hotels.
