Rock & Roll Half Marathon @ LINQ Nov. 13-16 Semi-Live w/ Pics (hopefully)

Hello VMBers!

I love VMB and reading all of the trip reports posted by the group. I am going to attempt complete my own first trip report. The goal of this TR is make it semi-live with photos and brief updates. I feel that I owe to all of the people that are currently not in Vegas, but are living vicariously through those of us that are currently there! Those reports have helped me get through my Vegas lent (i.e. BS, pphold, Royal Flusher, and many others on this site). I will do my best and I know it will be a challenge. I plan to take photos of any exciting wins, meals, beverages, hotel room, and many shots while on the strip running my race...more on that below. This is all assuming my phone with cooperates with me.

Participants: Myself and the GF.

Rundown of the trip: Arriving tonight and leaving Monday morning. Staying at the Linq for a few reasons...price, it's affordable; location...primary reason because it is close to the finish line of the race; and I am very curious of how they changed the hotel. Five hundy gave it a great review for the price and location and that the rooms were nice.

Objectives while in Vegas:

Friday: Focus on the strip.
Observation Wheel
Venetian
Cosmo
Paris
Bellagio Fountains
Collect Sports bets at MGM and make more for me and some co-workers

Saturday:
Running Expo at Convention Center to collect our racing bibs
Downtown all day
Hang out at the D, watch my Buckeyes at Long Bar perhaps with Matty Ice
Play a lot of slots, blackjack, and some roulette with the GF. Try to get some decent coin-in and maybe score some free room comps at a later date at the D.
Sigma Derby and what ever else floats my boat. This trip is very loosely organized

Sunday:
Morning - who knows? maybe rest during the day or try to lay low until the race
Rock and Roll Half Marathon on Sunday night. Primary reason of the trip and how I was able to bribe my GF to go to Vegas with me.

Lobster Me for a Lobster roll
Andiamo

Pizza Rock
Earl of Sandwich
Hash Hash
Tacos El Gordo

Drinks:
We want to try a Verbena at Cosmo.
Beers at TAG Bar
mixed drinks everywhere.

I'm another diehard Buckeye coming in for the 1/2 (my wife is running, I'm supporting).

Flight only 35 min behind, so not so bad. $20 trick got us a king suite upgrade
I must say that I am very impressed with what you get for the money and location for LINQ.

Just for my understanding of the $20 trick, when do you present the cash? Upon arriving at the desk? Do you literally ask for the upgrade or is the $20 presented ostensibly as a tip?

 

It's a $20 sandwich between your ID and credit card. Just ask for something specific. I said "any complimentary suites available?" It's feels stealth like to some. I see it as the first gamble of the trip. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but I find it fun to try!

 

Update in day 1:
I wouldn't recommend the lobster roll, over priced and under flavored.
Gambling was uneventful. Lost around $180 between food, gambling, and drinks. I do t know why, but gambling didn't seem exciting to me last night. Maybe I was tired form being up 23 hrs.

 

You got a lot more out of the $20 trick than I did there in April! I just moved from a double to a king.

Random question, is there another TV in front of the bed?

 

Yes, two 50-55in LG lcd tvs.
