I think that is the least of their worries.

    Sorry.

I honestly can't tell if this is good news or bad news for the SLS. It sounds bad but it could be a good thing? I hope?

It's bad in the sense that they were at least able to attract people loyal to Hilton hotels. On other general travel boards, I've seen a lot of enthusiasm for Cosmopolitan by Mariott people, for MGM by Hyatt people, etc. For people who don't go to Vegas regularly, affiliation with a hotel chain can be a big deal. This means there's just one more category of people who won't be considering SLS.

This is true. I earn Hyatt points for all my MLife purchases which I then transfer to Southwest. I've received enough points for a couple of free flights this way.

True, another group of people that would overlook the shitty location because they could get free or discounted rooms. But I would think SLS was paying for the affiliation so who knows if from a dollars and cents perspective it is good or bad for them.

I don't think there is a way to spin this in a way that it would be a net positive for SLS.

I don't think it is a question of spinning it, just simple economics. What if it was costing them $10 m a year to be part of the group and generating $1 m in revenue? Wouldn't it then be a good thing? Now I am not saying that either one of those are remotely true (like everyone else I have absolutely no idea). It may be a very very bad thing for them or a very very good thing or anywhere in between. As someone above posted, I doubt that THIS is what puts them over the edge and has management worried. By all accounts short of finding a way to magically move the place a few miles south they are likely in bankruptcy at some point not far down the road. Losing or not losing a few Hilton rewards members is not going to change that.
