Rash of room robberies at Flamingo?

I am heading to LV next week and planning on staying at Flamingo. I was reading their Facebook page and noticed several postings from guests who have had their room broken into. A couple of them mentioned that someone entered their room while they were asleep. Several of these incidents happened last week.

Should I be scared? Has anyone ever had anything like this happen to them? A common theme in the posting is that the casino personnel didn't seem to care about the safety of their guests.

 

This seems to come up every now and then. It's not always the same hotel, but seems to always be a CET property. Something just really seems fishy to me about most of these claims. Frankly, I don't believe any of the claims of the break-ins while they are in the room sleeping...total bullshirt!

 

I would agree about the breakins while people are sleeping.

Do they not use the night lock thing?

I worked at a hotel in the past. Sometimes the stories are bull used as a cover for a spouse of all the money they lost gambling. Always lock the deadbolt in your room and put the latch over too. Put the chair in the room in front of the door too at night if you are worried. Prop it so if the door opens it will fall making a noise. Can use the luggage rack too.

Is it possible that they could just be seeking compensation? I was getting pretty nervous reading about these incidents. I will be taking a door alarm just in case.

 

These stories are almost always the same.

Crook snuck into their room in the middle of the night ans stole the wifes jewelry and the money from the guys wallet.

From a crooks perspective this makes no sense. There are thousands of rooms in vegas so if you snuck into one and found someone sleeping would it not be advised to simply sneak back out before they woke up. If the occupants woke up they would either attack you or call security right away and your chances of getting caught would increase dramatically. Why take that chance?

Seems to me the last thing a crook wants to do is get caught.

If i were to be robbing hotel rooms, it would be during the day or the evening when the possiblity of the occupants not being there is relatively high.

Also i could blend in with the others on the floor instead of standing out like a sore thumb being the only one around.

I would not worry about this if I were you.

Fyi there are machines that can actually hack the hotel locks in properties that still have the old style "slide your key in/out" locks. They mimic a housekeepers key (basically). The lock companies keep trying to combat it, but haven't been able to so far. I would say this: use the deadbolt /dnd sign when you're in your room. Also place all items in your safe. If the hotel provides a safe for you to use, they're only liable for like $250 if someone breaks in.

 

Now that I think about it - it does seem kind of silly to worry. One lady posted a pic of her ransacked room on FB and said that there were 100s of dollars in cash and jewelry stolen while they were out. She said that the door had a broken lock and thought it was an "inside job" since the maid knew the lock was broken. Why leave cash and expensive items laying around? The rooms have a safe.

 

Yeah and if that happened, I'd post it on the hotel's FB page instead of let the cops handle it

 

I'm scared, i'm staying at Flamingo in about 10 days. I may have to change my reservation to Aria.

 

Make sure you pull the door shut when you leave the room. I Know from staying at Bellagio and TI their doors may not close all the way. Dont leave any valuables out like phones laptops etc. secure them in the safe.

 

+1. I remember a while back, these crooks would just walk down the hallway and push on doors hoping to find one that was not all the way closed. If the door is properly shut the criminal will move on. This can happen at any hotel.
If your still scared, you can always lean the ironing board against the door, or bring a door stopper with you.

 

This is why I bring a pistol with me when I travel. I'm not gonna leave my wife alone in the room with no way to defend herself!

Once I swore the maid took my credit card at a hotel in Milwaukee... I canceled it and all that stuff... Two weeks later I found between the door and seat of my car.

 

Yes, maids are usually not the problem- it is "guests" who see what is in your room while the maids are cleaning and lift something while they are not paying attention. Another reason not to leave anything lying around!

 

There's a lot of reasons to stay at Aria over Flamingo. Burglaries aren't one of them...

 

I've noticed how Wynn housekeeping use their carts to totally block the door while they are there or they shut it and put a tag in the lock saying housekeeping inside.
Simple protocol.
